great bari playing, love the baritone sax. sincere question: why is all jazz material, compositionally and harmonically, that is probably suitably called "mainstream" these days pretty much stuck in the Blue Note 4000 series from about 1961 to 1970? Don't get me wrong, it's great blues based modal stuff, and those recordings are iconic and indispensable. But man, a lot of things have happened musically since then. Why does it so often feel that the new recordings are stuck in amber?
