This is the best piece of black metal that I've ever heard.
The first time i listened to this record with my mouth open. It’s absolutely amazing. And his guitar solo… omg!
The cosmic war between life and death. This was how death sees us: mistakes in the universe, curses us for existing. If it had the choice there would be no end, no beginning, only eternal darkness. And when it comes, the sudden nothingness hits you instantly. Brilliant ending. Insanely powerful song, as if you are face to face with death itself, or having a peek in to it's chaotic world and dark thinking for a brief moment.
Leaves you to listen to Loneliness, you can hear the pain in Jari's voice when he wrote it just after his dad past away
What amazed me was that while listening to it i was trown back to december 2005 the devastation of loosing my dad,i went treu al over again😭

Amazing analysis! It's an intense, almost spiritual experience everything I hear it. Try listening to it outside on a stormy night. :D The abrupt ending is indeed intentional to show the sudden coming of death, it's my favorite part haha. Okay, now after death comes Loneliness. Looking forward to it.

Thank you for this great reaction. I've been following your journey thru the seasons so far. The way you analyze and explain your thoughts of these recordings made me respect more of this album. My favorite song from this album is the season ending Winter. Can't wait for that.
But anyways about this song the feeling of this song is very black metal and it is even more black metal what most black metal bands are capable of doing.
My Personal favourite track on the Forest Seasons album, it captures the moodiness of an Autumn day perfectly

This is the way how we Finnish people describe that autumn has arrived. Walk in the forest and see a dead leaf on the ground: "i am death. i am eternal darkness"
I simply love how far wintersun takes their music and vocals to make it just perfect.

I find this song to be the saddest on the album. The end makes me cry a lot. But it's not purely a sad cry. It's just so intense, like you said, and the end is just a big release, kind of how I imagine accepting death would be.
Also, you were spot on with your interpretation of the lyrics and the ending. The song is told from deaths perspective as if life is the abomination. The end also represents the sudden nothingness that is death. Good job.
My favorite part of this song is the 3rd movement before the solo, around 6:15 ish on the actual song timeline.. that whole passage about "wandering among the stars.." to me is the narrator experiencing death.
This song has grown in me alot. I've read that this album is most personal to Jari. He is also dealing loss of his father in these songs... especially autumn and winter.
For me this song represents autumn as its worse. In north, especially in nordic countries, autumn is really dark and depressing season. I think there is a lot if anger, bitterness, rage and despair in this song, but bottom line is still sadness of losing the beauty of summer and light. Also visuals changed during the song and in the end there was already snow floting around as a promise of winter.
So... next is Loneliness... I think you are surprised, when you hear it. 😉
Autumn is a season of Mass Death. All the leaves of the tree's and bushes are dying and falling off. As the leaves are decomposing on the forest floor there is a sweet scent in the air.
that was a dope song... the ending was very intense indeed. if youre gonna keep doing album reviews, id like to suggest a couple short albums worth checking out.
1: The Quantum Enigma (b-sides) by epica. all 5 songs are just magical and insanely overlooked in the reaction world.
2: ...And I Return to Nothingness (EP) by lorna shore. its stupidly heavy but has insane vocals and musicianship.
i think youll dig those two albums a lot, i hope youll look into them if you get the chance!

This is to me the best song so far off this album. Congratulations on the recognition, BTW. I don't know about an interpretation. To me it's just an amazing experience.
Can I add another prod towards Earthside and "All We Knew and Ever Loved".

This is the one I was waiting for the most! Such a visceral song, very hard to break down and grab hold of, but at least the song is breaking down and grabbing hold of you, haha :)

This is a song which went beyond of what I was able to imagine what music could be. It feels like he went all in with his abilities and creativity without any compromises. So far nothing has topped this song for me. I almost feel bad about calling it merely a song because it's so much more. Though I must say that their yet released song "The Way Of The Fire", which has been played live could very well top even Eternal Darkness. The Way of the Fire is in the yet released album Time II and that's why it has been incredibly painful to wait for it and it could very well not be released until 2030's. Anyways, next up is Loneliness (Winter). Another absolute masterpiece, enjoy!
We are very dark souls during autumn until spring comes, summer has drained all the energy and now there is barely any sunlight for months :)

If you read this let me tell you... Loneliness (Winter) is one of the BEST Wintersun songs yet, atleast in my opinion. It's probably the most unique song from the album and I'm sure you'll be pleasently suprised :)
