What a great inspiring video! What a wonderful program...empowering young girls for the future...may thanks to Mamie and Stew-Mac for enriching the lives of young people...Blessings from Lilo Ukulele.
THANK YOU Stew Mac for sponsoring this wonderful camp /class with Mamie at Brooklyn Lutherie and sharing this video with the world. Y'all just restored my hope that human kindness still exists in a world full of walls and hate.
As a father of two amazing young daughters this video made me very happy. Girls can absolutely be great luthiers or anything else for that matter but girls have a certain finesse and attention to detail that lends well to instrument building. I have a custom guitar shop in my home and my 7 year old helps me build all the time, she's building an EVH replica as we speak, she has done every step, laying out the measurements, building the templates and all, The only thing I did was prepare the body and neck wood with the big power tools, she is only 7 so safety considerations should always be made but I still explained what I was doing and soon she will know how to use the big tools as well. Girls rock!
This is awesome and I'm so impressed that you featured this on your channel. First of all, it's the absolute perfect commercial for your ukulele kits. It took about 10 seconds for me to start thinking about getting one of these for my daughter and working on an instrument together. I think that a lot of girls automatically count themselves out for this sort of thing and it just takes a little nudge to get them hooked into building and thinking of themselves as capable builders. I feel like American culture is constantly encouraging and empowering boys to be makers, which is great, and it's so nice to see some specific offerings like this geared toward girls.
I am just as amazed by this wonderful video as all of you - Mamie is just as great and real when you meet her as you see in this video. My 10 year-old granddaughter would love to have been there. And of course boys would love it also (but this was a girl's camp - who doesn't get that)?
K-12 music teacher and this is my dream class project! I would love to start teaching woodworking and music to my upper grade level classes. Cloverport KY, GO ACES!
Wow...loved EVERYTHING about this!! Thanks for sharing. These girls are so smart, and I'm glad Mamie created this building camp for girls who like to work with their hands. I would've loved something like this when I was growing up.
Made my day, this is so inspiring and heartwarming. The enthusiasm of the girls as they take on instrument building, it kinda gives me hope for this world. I hope some will continue on and keep the craft growing. Also, I spotted Velvet Underground and Star Trek T-shirts? I was never that cool, certainly not when I was that young. Finally, I love Mamie’s performance videos and her other Stew Mac presentations... but I must admit, her smile completely melts me. Thanks!
Dan, thanks for putting this together. It was really moving. And please tell Mamie she should keep this going as long as she can; my 4 year old daughter will be there just as soon as she is old enough!
Dan, you guys at StewMac are cool dudes! Thank you Congrats to the Brooklyn girls! My granddaughter and myself are starting an ukulele shop and just got one of your tenor kits to make and practice and learn on! Already have an order for a soprano so I'll be ordering that soon and do some mods to it like a salvaged redwood top.
What a great experience for those girls! The world needs more people like Mamie and StewMac. What a worthy investment for StewMac. Great job to all of the girls who participated!
I am deeply impressed. By Mamie and her helpers, by the great ukes those girls built, and by StewMac for helping them with this. The world is a better place than it was before you guys held this camp.
Very inspiring Thank you Stew Mac for showing this vidieo. Iam in the process of building my first Ukulele from scratch, I have bought a whackload of specialty tools from Stew Mac in the last few months.. Iam amazed how precise everything must be & how if one thing is off it can affect alot of other things, Iam legally blind so it takes me a bit more time too do things but Iam in love with building instruments & will continue doing so forever.
Chris from LMI here. Kudos to our esteemed competitor, Stewart-MacDonald, for supporting this great program. And kudos to Mamie, a respected leader in our industry, for having the vision to create this class and spread the word that lutherie is not just for boys. We all know this, but some among us are still living in the stone-age and felt compelled to litter the RUclips comments with sexist crap. Gratefully, Stew-mac has cleaned these comments out, as LMI has had to do when we feature a woman luthier in our videos. But it's preposterous and infuriating that this needs to happen at all. #lutherieisnotaboysclub ruclips.net/video/q_yaSjYZqH8/видео.html&index=13&list=WL
Hi This Matt From The Australian Guitar making School in Newcastle...this is so inspiring thanks for making this video. I would love to run a course in my school.
Mamie is the absolute best..a true champion for the arts, young children boys & girls! It’s so wonderful to watch how she interacts with each & evey one of the girls..giving them confidence & support, that YES...they as girls CAN do these thing...and that it not just a job for boys & men. Well done to all involved..these are the kinds of classes to implemented into EVERY school curriculum. Take a bow ladies!
I just finished my 2nd build at 66 years old, now I want to do another one because I would have never thought to use black stain, I love the look of that one. Great job by all these young ladies.
There are some folks that can't do anything , won't do anything so they try to drag down anyone who achieves to justify their miserable existence ,so sad
This is a fantastic video. Parents and schools are no longer introducing kids to the musical arts. Due to this, there are not enough new musicians and artisans to support the music industry in all its forms, from teaching to building to attending music schools and concert going. PLEASE INTRODUCE ALL CHILDREN IN YOUR LIFE TO THE WORLD OF MAKING MUSIC AND/OR THE ART OF MAKING NSTRUMENTS
The first guitar I built from scratch was a copy of a Japanese Tiesco Model. The difference is that my version was a neck through instead of a bolt neck. The fret job was not the best and I learned that cutting fret slots needed much more precision. I kept at it until I could cut and fret a fingerboard accurately. But..... The next build I do will be a one of your Martin style kits.
this is the real opposite of the ugly world! people doing this kind of work are saying: everyone born has a guarantee for fun, joy, happiness ,music and if this gurantee is not fullfilled we gone take care!!

This is fantastic! Giving participants the opportunity to customize the color was a great idea.

Mamie and Brooklyn Lutherie are incredible. I'm soo happy to have them close by. My Martin never played or sounded better since being on their bench.
Probably one of the best videos I’ve seen from stew Mac. Heartwarming to see young women in the shop! Awesome!

Yes, it actually looks like it IS possible for girls and women to build guitar like instruments.

Fantástico!!
Thanks for sharing
This was awesome.
I’m a guy but I wonder if I could go. I live in nyc and Brooklyn is just a couple minutes away. Would seem like a fun learning experience.
This is one of the most important videos on RUclips.
Off to Stewmac... 👍🏼
How cool is this! Teaching kids how to put together musical instruments is such an amazing idea.
Cool🌹
More of this in the World, please.
So much great stuff in this video! Why is it "age-restricted"? And why would 35 people dislike it? The online world is a very strange place sometimes.
I wou;d like too send my granddaughters too your camp….. ❤❤❤❤❤
We need more of this :-)
Why I didn’t get that chance? That’s awesome
This camps sounds really cool. I wish we had something like this in ukraine.
Maybe you could start a camp/class like this in your area.
how could anyone downvote this video!?!
👍
This kind of thing needs to go global. And shame on the 13 people who disliked this. There's a special place in hell for your kind.
now 18 places! 😥
"It's paying off" In more way then they realize....yet!
Can somebody explain me why there's people that dislike this?
The only thing I can imagine, is that their lifes must SUCK big time...
Some people also seem to hate the ukulele for no apparent reason.
some people don't like some stuff
I suspect they are morons.
Some Men Just Want To Watch The World Burn.

Nice sweat shop
I now have a knot in my throat; remind me to stay away from inspirational things.
The future belongs to women.
Outstanding!
