    Hello! I love this video! It is well edited and has beautiful camera work! I am wanting to build one of these myself, and was wondering where you got the hardware and fret board?

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  2 года назад +2

      Hi. Thanks for the nice words! Fretboards I usually make myself, but this was a premise one off eBay. Can get from various online retailers. Same deal for the rest of the hardware. Local music shops may have also or could look for a broken one in a thrift store etc and salvage bits. Good luck with your build!

    A pleasure to greet you, I am a beginner in this of the lutheria, and because in my excitement I bought 2 preamp eq-7545, I wonder if I could do the same as you with the parts of this preamp, that of removing the preamp system and making a direct connection, would I need to buy another piezo, or the one that is included functional? Excuse me if it is not understood, it is that I do not speak English, I am using Google Translater, thank you very much for the videos, I watch and watch them again and again

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  3 года назад +2

      Hi. I think you could do the same. You might choose to keep the preamp (with more sound adjustment) and hide it within the body cavity. Good luck!

    I have a question, where do you find the four string bridges and pickups

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  2 года назад +2

      Hi, most music shops (if you have local ones) stock a range of ukulele strings usually in sets but some stock singles. Failing that online retailers or ebay. Same deal for pickups, but for ease i usually go via ebay or occasionally AliExpress- no specific traders I have to recommend.

    Nice build
    Ive built a few guitars and basses but my current project is a 25" scale solid body uke bass. Im curious what electronics youre using

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  Год назад

      Thanks. This build was a no brand piezo amp, which was not great (to the degree i removed the preamp and put in a better rod and sorted the other end of the guitar cable). I much preferred the setup I had in an earlier video ‘the mini bass ukulele with no name’. I’ll probably follow a setup more like that when i give it another crack some time. Hope the 25” goes well!

    Thank you

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  Год назад

      Hi, mine is a large concert/small tenor scale length - i suggest choosing the scale length you feel mist comfortable with and basing off that. I use this for calculating fret placement: www.stewmac.com/fret-calculator/ (or can buy pre-made and just worry about bridge placement) Thickness wise 40-60mm. I like thinner visually but around the 50-60 feels better in hand. Good luck with build.

  • @hkdl8743
    @hkdl8743 2 года назад +1

    how did you measure for the bridge placement on your solid body ukulele is it the same as a guitar from 12 fret

    • @MikeHawkey
      @MikeHawkey  2 года назад +1

      Ultimately the same yes- double twelfth. Is a small change to compensate for the bridge type and height. Here is my go to when designing them: www.stewmac.com/fret-calculator/

      Apologies- my last reply was incorrect. I thought it was for my telecaster build when I glanced at the image. I made the plans myself for this unit. Neck size is concert/tenor and fret spacing Is uke.

    • @MikeHawkey

      The active amp was rubbish, so switched to a good piezo rod and passive unit. Still works in a typical amp but not as boosted in volume.
