old players often don't understand how important is this kind of updates to bring new people to the game, this update is a big deal. I have friends that plays RS3 because of graphics and language support (we speak portuguese), OSRS needs so much to implement new languages and keep making this graphics changes, this game is one of the best but a lot of people dont try bc of graphics and lack of other languages options, things that are very common in every game nowadays.

Giving the option to choose old or new graphics is the way to go. There's a lot to be said about bad graphics but we've seen simple games like Minecraft prove to be massively successful as they are. It doesn't matter how beautiful a game's graphics are if there's no soul or distinct art-style to the game, OSRS certainly does though.
There's definitely a fine line between when keep to keep things simple and when to improve and update them. As subjective as art can be it really is best to leave it to those people with an "artist's eye" to find the right line on this one. Since, heavy cluttering and excessive display of graphics can be overwhelming and even exhausting to look at.
But, Runetek's graphics will be the new nostalgia of the next generation that picks up OSRS and I think it looks good so far.
u can turn off shadows in 117hd so it help but istill play oldschool style

im an OG player and i think 07 graphics are ass. pre EOC era was best graphics. it was just enough.
i personally like aesthetics, seeing better scenery, water, and textures in general. doesn't change the game, it's just like the 117 plugin on runelite you can toggle on/off but better - except 117 doesn't really cut it for me. i still use it and it's decent though.

The majority of runescape players quit the game. The current playerbase are the minority, whose votes actually made more people quit over time. How many updates has your community downvoted just because it's always PVE vs PKers?

Osrs player base plays the game 99% because of nostalgia that’s why a lot of the serious players hate any change
That's why runelite exist? If you want osrs u play the very old ver with just kq and kbd and ur best weapons are just rune scim with dds and that is it
