Thank you for sharing this 🤗 you’re not alone at all. I too have anxiety and depression and it was very debilitating and still is to a certain point! But God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers and YOU GOT THIS!! Hearing your story reminds me of what I deal with.. the constant fear and worry that everything will fall apart, but slowly you will come out of this. Congrats on nursing school!! I start come September 😊🤗 you’re gonna be a great Nurse!!!

I feel like I am listening to my own story being told to me. I was in the same exact situation, started out in a four-year program for my RN BSN and I had everything all planned out. I got into a funk and developed major anxiety and ended up having to withdraw halfway through my first semester. Now I am two semesters away from graduating from my local community college and receiving my RN at 20 years old. YOU GOT THIS! You are going to be an amazing nurse. It's a crazy ride but its worth every sleepless night, tear and struggle. Embrace it

Kevin Kyle Hi! So I was actually enrolled full time to start out at a school pretty far away from home. The usual four year, living in a dorm life and I ended up getting sick. I didn’t know I was sick, but it triggered a massive anxiety that lasted for months. The final straw was when I got my physics midterm grade and I realized how much I had suffered physically and emotionally. Basically a lot of things had to fall into place and I was able to withdraw at the very last minute (literally one day away from having failing grades on my transcript). I left and next thing I knew I was sitting at home with no plan b and nothing could’ve prepared me for that. I starting taking classes at my local community college and luckily, with my additional college credits from high school, I was able to knock out almost all of the pre and co requisites for my local nursing program. I’d say that if you feel like you should slow down, listen to your heart! I am in class with several students who work full time, have children, etc. and we all took classes at a different speed. Unless it will negatively impact your chances on getting into your desired program, I’d say definitely listen to your gut and if you need to slow down, slow down. Learn about how you study best and practice time management, and then you can slowly increase your workload. I hope this helped :)

This is such a powerful story. I just found your channel recently. I had a pretty terrible period with anxiety. It came out of no where for me as well I have a thyroid condition and started medication for it. Since it’s a hormone replacement it was triggering horrible anxiety. I was crying for no reason and having to call into work. I was panicking terribly about very small situations. I felt like no one understood I was embarrassed. I was failing or withdrawing from classes and I could not focus. I thought it was going to eat me alive and I never thought I was going to feel like myself again. I finally reached out to my doctor about medication. I got luckily that the first mild medication worked amazingly and I felt so much better. I went from being embarrassed or hesitant to talk about it to reaching out to others to talk about it and it really helped me so much. I’m glad you were able to overcome your anxiety and depression to start living life again. So many of us understand how scary it is.

Wow, we have very similar stories... I was so excited to start university, and after my first semester I fell into a deep depression and basically freaked out so I withdrew from all of my classes. I moved back home and enrolled into a community college, yet I still struggled but it got better. I went for my ADN, then bridged for my BSN and I moved to California! Recently I moved to Colorado, but I’m sure you will enjoy California! Good luck 🍀

I definitely resonate with this video! I went to a 4 year university my freshman year and loved it! But things changed and after the first year I decided to transfer to a community college closer to home for many different reasons including mental health and nursing school and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Never thought it would happen to me but it’ll all work out in the end :)

I have suffered with severe depression and debilitating anxiety for most of my life. Off and on, from having childhood trauma /illness, hospitalizations to having mental illness in my family ( inherited traits). Mental illness in a parent as well has been something at least now we are more freely discussing and removing the stigma. I truly realized that I was going to be okay when I saw the movie Silver Linings Playbook. Bradley Cooper is telling the therapist that before he was diagnosed, he had been “white knuckling it” not knowing what was going on-I started to cry when the answer to this statement given was “That had to be hard”
It is hard! And we think sometimes it’s happening “for no reason” There’s a reason-we are not well and it’s manifesting in a way that is unfamiliar...it would be so much easier to put on an ice pack and elevate🤪. But it’s just a little more complex-
I’m so glad that you’re sharing this part of your life and journey-it will help so many-we are so connected.
I think so many of us are drawn to nursing because we know what it’s like to be hurting...and caring for others is also a way to feel better too!

girl oh my goodness your story sounds so incredibly similar to mine i don’t know whether to smile or cry hearing it. i’m a nursing major too and started my freshman year at the university in my town. things were seeming to go pretty well i went greek, liked most of my classes, had a good time around campus. but my anxiety and depression starting getting really bad and affecting my performance. then comes the end of the spring semester. my mimi was sick and passed away at the end of finals week and my head was so not in the right place. and i also wound up having health issues i needed to have an operation for that summer. so when my sophomore year came i was not in a good place at all and me and my parents decided it would be best to take a break and now i’m starting up at my community college this spring for their nursing program. it’s an associates as well and i feel much more ready and motivated to go back. i already have so many classes taken so i just have maybe a year left of pre reqs it even that long and then i can start my nursing courses it absolutely does get better and there is always a plan. i wish you well and so much happiness and successes. if you ever wanna chat or need a friend who knows what your going through don’t hesitate to reach out.

GIRL. I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD. I am a senior at OU right now. I absolutely thrived here for my first 2 years until I decided to study in LA last fall 2018. I became SO ANXIOUS being so far away from family and friends and boyfriend. I cried and called my parents every day and just couldn't focus at my internship. I was having anxiety attacks every day so bad that would I throw up. I couldn't eat and I couldn't keep the small amount that I did eat down. I lost over 10 lbs when I was also already thin. My family came to visit and my mom almost cried bc I was skin and bones. Worst 4 months of my life. I'm sooo much happier in Ohio with loved ones which is something I never thought I would say! I always thought I was meant to live in California considering I want to be a filmmaker, but God does have other plans for me. Mental health is so important! PS go Bobcats! 💚 also, I am Brittany Hartman's friend which is how I found your channel lol. I feel like we could definitely be friends!!!

    Hi Madi!
I am so glad I found your channel. During my first semester of college I went into a dark place along with having anxiety and depression. I was 4 hours away from home and scared. My parents to did not want me to come home, but in the end it was the best choice for me to make to. I decided to commute from home to a small college now and I love it. It is where I found that I wanted to be a nurse. I will graduate next year in three years with my BS in Psych, then I want to do an associate RN program. I to want to work as a RN while hoping they will pay for some of it. I now know that even if you do not know why something is happening to you, God knows that in the end he has a plan for you. I look forward to watching your videos, you will make such a great nurse :)

Wow..Similar story. I go to ORU in Oklahoma! they require a 21 on the ACT and for some reason I tried so hard for that test, but always was one point away. God totally has been so faithful on this journey to me though. I remember one day I was studying for anatomy and I broke down crying because I wasn't in the program yet, but he told me that he'd show me how great he was, and he did. I saw policies change and turn in favor for me. I was able to take some pre-nursing classes even though I wasn't a nursing major. I eventually passed my ACT this past April and I am now in the nursing program. The enemy really attacks us when we are in the center of God's will. You're gonna be an amazing nurse one day. You are the hands and feet of Jesus, you will bless so many people. God bless you

Hey my love! I started following you a few weeks ago but am now binge watching all of your videos. First of all, from person to person, I am so proud of you for overcoming your tough times. You are amazing. I relate to so much of what you said. In highschool in Ontario, we have to choose between academic classes (university level), applied classes (college level), or workplace which would get you into trade schools. I started in grade 9 taking everything academic, being happy, and doing great first semester achieving 90s. Then I did some stupid childish things, lost all of my friends except one and fell into deep depression. Crying, cutting, failing classes. That summer going into grade 10 I had no one so I made a 5sos fan account on twitter (lol) and made so many amazing friends but when September rolled around again and I had to go back to school I was so horribly depressed still. I would literally come home from school and be in such a bad scary headspace that I would stare at my wall until it was about 11 pm then I'd try to go to sleep. My self harming was peaking more than ever and I started to turn to doing drugs and drinking alcohol literally everyday.... I look back and want to cry because I was 15 and so. Done. With. Life. Dropped from academic classes to applied because I was so busy doing drugs I wasn't paying attention the few times that I was in class. Failed so many classes still. Grade 11 comes and I'm still super depressed but get into a relationship... Which turned out to be so extremely mentally abusive. He would threaten to kill himself everytime I did something he didn't want. I would go to class, he'd skip and say he was on the train tracks. I'd be on the phone with him, and fall asleep before him and he'd freak out and spam text me until I woke up threatening his life. One time he told me he was at a bridge so I begged my mom to drive me there and find out he's at home playing video games. It was literal mental torture. I went on a Europe trip with my school and every single day he threatened his safety. I was so sick with anxiety. He would write me suicide notes. I literally have never been in such a bad place EVER, before or after the relationship. I was so scared he was going to die and I'd be the one to blame. He was so manipulative. Long story short I ended up leaving summer going into grade 12. In grade 12 I cleaned up my act alot, took extra classes so I'd graduate on time. Made more friends. After years of loving makeup I finally decided I wanted to be a makeup artist. After grade 12 I left and took a 1 year esthetics course. Before when I said that relationship was the worst time of my life? Actually it's a toss up between that and college. First semester I did amazing, 90s in every class again. Full of ambition. Second semester rolls around and I lost it. I was so stressed, depressed, anxious and had no will to live. I stopped eating. I literally lost 40 pounds... And I was the "ideal" weight for my height beforehand. I would eat saltine crackers only, everyday. I became so frail and my body couldn't function properly so I had fainting spells. In the shower, hit my head. During a waxing exam, fell into my classmate. It was horrible. I didn't even realize it was because I wasn't eating. Because when I looked in the mirror I was still disgusted. I distanced myself from all of my classmates. I kind of got my shit together and graduated, didn't pursue anything with esthetics though. Got a management job at Winners and worked there full time for 2 years before I started to look into schooling again. Last year I decided I wanted to do nursing and I am starting my 5 year journey this September to get my BSN! I am so excited! I am still so scared because I haven't taken "hard" classes like Chem, bio or math since grade 10 but have all of those this year. I'm just excited that I started caring about myself again so I wanted more. Thank you so much for posting this, I feel like I can actually relate to someone. Sorry for the long paragraph, although I hope you read it. Love from London, Ontario! 🥰

THIS. THIS. THIS. By far my favorite video you've ever done! I cried watching this because I relate so much. You have no idea how much I needed this. I've always struggled with anxiety (A part of it is because I have a speech impediment, I stutter) and people can be rude about that. Sometimes I wonder if I'll even get anywhere in life because of it, or if I'll be a good nurse even with it. However, there are other factors involved in my anxiety also. I constantly stay anxious about anything & everything. Thank you a million times for this video!!! I have Anatomy and Medical Terminology this coming semester. I'm already anxious about that. Please make a video about how you passed those? Tips, ideas, etc. Also I know this is suppose to be a Nursing channel, but I'd personally love if you would make a video all about therapy (if you're comfortable with it), and I would also love to see faith videos if you feel comfortable doing that. I love you soooo much, thank you again for this. You're one of the sweetest people in this world. The world needs more people like you. It helps knowing I'm not alone. I'm sorry I requested so many video ideas 😭❤️ you'll be an amazing nurse!

I started nursing school in Aug 2017 and I fell into a horrible depression as well, and landed myself in a terrible relationship that took over my entire life. I had to drop out because I lost everything for this relationship. I just started again, but every once in awhile I get this sad aching because I would already be a nurse now if I hadn't let this guy take over my life. But I think things are going to be okay. I’ve also have always dealt with anxiety in school, it only got worse in nursing school. I’ve just had to learn to cope with it & to also make a priority to de stress. I am a new subscriber of yours! I'm not in nursing or going to nursing school but I have a past in the medical field. I was an Emergency Medical Technician on an ambulance for 3-4 years, I got my certification right after I turned 18. I then worked as a Patient Care Technician in one of my local hospital's emergency room. That was when I wanted to go for Nursing, but ever since high school I was on the fence about Nursing/Medical Field or Law. I decided to go to school for Bio and ended up failing out due to personal issues very similar to yours, and found my calling in Criminal Justice, left my job as the PCT and found a new path in life. I went to a community college to rebuild my GPA and graduated with an Associates in CJ, I still LOVED being an EMT though because it was different than the hospital. Now i'm currently finishing my bachelors in Criminal Justice. Just wanted to point out that u have subscribers from all walks of life! (: I still love seeing people's journey's into nursing or as nurses because its a lot of hardwork, but super rewarding!

Hi again! I knew we had something in common. I failed my first semester of nursing school, due to my severe depression and anxiety. My mom was not very supportive and I had to work full time to be able to afford my books for my first semester of nursing school. It was very stressful since I didn't have anything to help me study. I ended up being hospitalized after, but I'm proof that it does get better! (: Only two more semesters until I graduate from Nursing school. You're an inspiration Madi 💗

I am a half junior I think because I took a medical leave of absence I think I'm going to take all my nursing pre reqs a and finish my bachelors degree , and then apply to a second degree BSN program. I really look up to u and hope to be like you one day! I hope I get better soon so I can be the best nurse.

This is so inspiring. Ive been binge watching your vids. I went to college 2015 after i graduated hs. I did not pass the semester i dropped out because i was not motivated and let a stupid boy get in my way. I am going back this year to start the pre sonography journey. I have 2 young boys. I will have to make extremely good grades to get my gpa up but i know i can. I have extremely bad anxiety that i get sick to my stomach and shakey. My mind goes blank. I am terrible in social situations and feel judged by others. Im so excited to follow your journey and be successful with you!

hi! i am currently a freshmen in college and my first semester went downhill so fast. i used to suffer from depression and i still had it going into college, but when i was out with friends and family i put on this front that i was okay. i think that is where i went wrong because now i talk to people about what is going with me and that has helped so much. when you said that you had to reteach yourself to live again, i felt that so much because i had to do the same thing. right now i am doing okay and i am happy. i am still struggling on what path i want to take with schooling, but i know i will figure it out eventually. i also want to become a nurse, but don't know exactly what to do. especially since the school load gives me so much anxiety because i have this pressure that if i don't do well, i will fail in life. if you have any advice to give me i would greatly appreciate that. what you're doing to show your journey and to share this story is absolutely amazing! you're showing people that they are now alone. i love that!

Foundations is going to be almost like your A&P, your going to go back over the body, except your going to go over what that system does. Like the urinary system, your know what it consists of, but know your going to go over things like what it excretes(urine, some electrolytes),how it affects the other systems(such as cardiac) , etc. you’ve got this! Your going to do GREAT!

ok I have been binge watching all of your videos lol. This cannot be healthy haha. Anyway, I relate to this SO HARD. The depression I experienced my sophomore year was sooo bad. I failed anatomy twice because of it (I made a video on that if you wanna see it) And the only thing that got me through that was Jesus. I didn't know it at the time, but he knew exactly what he was doing. I start nursing school next month and I'm sooooo excited. It's crazy to think I'm actually on track to reaching my life life dream of becoming a nurse. Thank you for sharing your story, girl. And thank you for your youtube channel!

I completely understand where you’re coming from. I suffer from really bad anxiety and had to take a year off after high school before going to college to take a mental break. It scares me that I’m not gonna be a good nurse because I have such bad anxiety & social anxiety but I’m hoping I can get through it by the time I actually get into the program. So happy you posted this video, you got this girl!! 💞 Also, once you start nursing school you should def make a separate nurse IG to post different study tips and show us how it is without the pressure of having to film and edit an entire video all the time since it’ll be so hectic ❣️

Continue doing what your doing, life can be so hard, and people can be cruel, especially those who don’t understand it, rather their friends, family, etc. nursing school is going to seem impossible, there’s so much information that’s going to be thrown at you, and your going to wonder “how am I ever going to remember all of this!?” But remember it is possible, they make it hard for a reason, to weed people out. And we, the world, need more caring, compassionate nurses like you in the world. so just always keep your eyes on The goal, and if you need to cry, then cry, need to scream, then scream, let every emotion you feel out, but just never give up! People share all kinds of funny memes about nursing school, and yeah they make you laugh, but it’s scary how true they are once you start. Your life will pretty much revolve around school, and it’s good that you’ve already weeded the bad friends out, because your going to need understanding people around you. People think, especially lookin in from the outside, nursing school/classes, are like any other program, but it’s so much more harder, like learning a new langue, at the moment, your nursing brain isn’t their, and so when their going over some of the stuff it’ll sound a little familiar from A&P, especially in med surg, but now instead of learning the parts, your going to learn each and just about every disease that goes with that part of the body, which is where the nursing brain slowly but surly kicks in. Like watching a movie in a langue that your currently learning, you can pick out bits and pieces that you understand, but most of the movie your just reading the subtitles. I don’t want to scare you, because all of that stress, crying, etc, will all melt away once you walk across that stage and and get pinned! 😍 and your going to feel so proud of yourself that nothing or no one could ever take that moment in time from you! Your going to be a wonderful nurse. 😊
Oh and just a little heads up, all of your instructors will at least have their BSN, and so when they teach they teach as though you should already know this info, and it’ll make you feel blah that your taking awhile to catch on, join a study group, or start one, and you’ll see your not the only one feeling that way. I’ve honestly only met one instructor who didn’t teach like that.🤦🏾‍♀️ and honestly I don’t even think they know that they are doing it. Good luck, and sorry for the long paragraph!
