Total miles was 666, yo! All the details correct. To double confirm this I have already done few thousand miles on it. Got following original accessories exactly as you listed: heated grips, hand guard extensions, tall screen, and engine guards, this added an extra grand to the bike price BUT... it is much more beautiful than the rest of the crew, and stands out as one of the bad ass Honda crafts. Especially the black version

As a very experienced (IE: old) rider I’d love a fully farkled “Africa Twin” that’s biased for street and off pavement. I don’t really want a heavy bike for single track riding, do want the ergos of an adventure bike. And, even after I tried and disliked my initial trials with the DCT, I’ve been convinced that it’s starting to deliver on its potential. Well done Honda! Now, it’s back to the darknet to sell that kidney; hope they don’t find out “gently used” really means it’s almost 70 years old.

Having just spend a few days at the Honda Off road Adventure centre in Somerset on an Africa Twin CRF1100 i can confirm it is certainly capable of off road adventure riding and even for an absolute beginner like myself and certainly inspires confidence in your and it's capabilities. I agree the USB port is poorly located and having looked at but not used the cruise control I would likely agree about poor placement. I instantly felt at home sitting what felt in the bike rather than perched on the bike which helped inspire confidence in having full control in a new (off-road) environment. Having covered 100 miles off road approx and having only one tumble at the start I left the journey feeling that the bike is perfect for what it is designed for and getting back onto my "now heavy feeling" GS1200 to make the 700 mile journey home has left me wondering if I "need" to change my current choice of bike.
Great and concise review MOTOBOB. well done.

I would say the Honda delivers in areas outside of the spec sheet, like how it handles, weight centralization, reliability, wide dealer networks, being the only bike manufacturer to offer DCT.

  • @raycollington4310
    @raycollington4310 4 года назад +3

I have a 2019 AT and love it, despite its shortcomings. One issue that would stop me upgrading is the poor quality of some components and constant battle against corrosion of some parts. I struggle to see how the the engineers that produce that lovely engine, allow the bean counters to finish it with poor quality fittings. The fancy screen and Apple Play is not important for me as I concentrate 100% on where I'm going. I agree about price/spec and before I bought another, I might be considering a shaft drive bike. Honda will have to be as commercial as the market dictates. You started to sound like a salesman but did get the balance right at the conclusion IMHO. Thank you>

I rode one of these for a couple of hours and really liked it, great handling, sound and motor. If you want a DCT then the only choice is Honda and I love DCT. The display is better than the Tiger, but you are right that the base bike is too expensive. I haven't tried the Tiger 900 yet but it sounds like a really nice bike from the reviews I have seen.

Better you go for the Adventure Sports. Comes with heated grips und proper handguards. With electronic suspension it is nearly as complete as a GS, the power -on the other hand the bike is 20 kg lighter. The bike is much easier to handle - specially on gravel- than the Tiger 800 i owned before. And Apple Carplay is a nice feature that works reliable. On my Triumph scrambler 1200 they didn’t get the MyThriumph App started for a whole season.... Quick shifter? The Tiger 800 and the AT gearboxes are perfekt, they don‘t need pulling the clutch when you are in motion for shifting gears

If you consider DCT than there is no compitition, also people say that if you are new rider DCT works very well for you and bikes does not stall in off road which is a major issue while off roading.
Secondly in India Honda tops the realibility factor. Also it's maintenance is very cheap compared to other brands which will cover up higher cost you pay initially over a period of time. Parts availability and service is major issue for Triumph according to oweners here.

In Italy the base model can be had for €13600 with a genuine top box and high screen. The rally pro is still around €15500 with a discount included. Honda's always come with a 4 year guarantee Vs standard 2 years of triumph, BMW, KTM. I'd go AT 1100.

Great review. My take on the AT is similar; I didnt think it was as nice as the Ducati Multi 1200 or 1260, and for the price you could get a 1-2 year old Triumph Tiger or a slightly older R1200GS. Honestly, I'd like to check out that Honda VFR 1200X, and once this pandemic is over I'd like to check out that Guzzi V85TT; I think that Guzzi may fit right in the price/power range I'd want for an ADV bike.

Trouble is its being judged as a £13k bike. I have just bought the base model and paid £10k brand new for cash. Thats at least 3k (maybe more like £5k) less than a GS and probably £2.5k less than the Triumph 900 rally. Buy the Africa Twin and an old Aprilia RSV for track day kicks for the price of the competition.

The off-road biased bike, on the other hand, has limited flexibility to add panniers, making it less desirable if you want a touring bike. I don’t understand why Honda have been so rigid on this.

Bought my 2016 Africa Twin DCT on an impulse and regretted it. Mainly ride in town and twisties at the weekend. Found the bike cumbersome and the DCT was always in the wrong gear for me whatever mode I used - changed for a manual NC750X which is far more maneuverable in my opinion and although the stats don’t show it, it has plenty of grunt - 20km/h in 3rd gear accelerating up to 100 without any fuss. Plus you feel part of the bike whereas the AT you seem perched on it.
Ok, I did not try the new one which in the Netherlands starts at €17,500 going up to north of €24,000 for the Adventure Sport DCT, which is out of my price range, but I do have to agree with your review, if I had this money to spend on a bike, would you buy an AT? If it involved a significant amount of off road use - maybe, but for 90% road use there are possibly better.

Overpriced because Honda wants to compete 1200gs....but Honda, that s not what we Re asking. keep IT lower priced, simple, efficient, reliable and fun to drive... Like always.

Price is ok for what you get ,a comfy bike whit Honda quality...here in Belgium the 1100 adventure with a few extra’s cost you 18500€; a bmw gs 1200 is 23 a 27 000 €

@@peterducodil9890 i am a Honda fan for son long. I believe price is Ok and less than BMw, yes. I just dont like thé fact Honda wants to compete with Bmw I terms of price (because for reliability they are already far better).

I don't think this bike was intended to compete with the triumph. I think that's the next AT mid-size. LoL at the medical equipment.

Motor sounds quite bad on paper even compared to R1200GS' 125hp / 125 nm version.
I like the bike but the motor looks like a downgrade.
