@kenyonsgirl415 it's not the same thing. Italians are not Latina. Plus, it's kind of weird when other ethnicities play ethnicities that aren't theirs. Like when Angelina Jolie (a white woman) played an afro-latina. It's weird.
This is an interesting one for me... 1) you are correct if her being specifically Italian doesn't serve the plot or inform her character why is it made known to us? 2) it is definitely a case of Hollywood racism that ethnicities of people of colour are interchangeable and that white anglophile actors have the right to portray characters of any ethnicity and use any accent. 3) please don't conclude from this that non-white people cannot be Italian. They absolutely can.
Matthew McConaughey's natural hair color is blonde and it was light blonde when he was young - you can see it in a lot of his earlier movies like this one and Dazed and Confused
I've been a horsewoman for a few decades, and any well-trained rider can get a spooked horse back under control pretty quickly, assuming they're still well-situated after the initial panic/rear/buck/bolt for the heavens. For an untrained rider, though, it can be very difficult and downright terrifying. Fear makes you clench tighter to hold on, and that often means you accidentally give the horse the signals to go faster. Horses are also very empathic, so if you're afraid, they're more likely to be afraid. Calming a frightened horse requires keeping your cool. So for someone like Mary, yeah, there's a chance she could've gotten badly injured before the horse ran out of steam of its own volition if she was egging the horse on without meaning to (and it looks like she was, from some shots). However, a practiced rider would've caught up and coached Mary through turning the horse into a circle that slowly decreases in radius (it's much more difficult for a horse to go really fast in a circle, so they inevitably slow down if you just keep making them turn, so this is the standard way you slow a runaway horse) or, if she weren't able to understand or follow those directions, he would've grabbed for her reins. Plucking her out of the saddle is rom-com nonsense and damn dangerous in its own right.
Love watching rom-coms with you guys. Some more suggestions for the channel: Never Been Kissed, Maid In Manhattan, Just Like Heaven and The Lake House. Ta. 🧡
I think the hair stroking scene is because he is checking her head for a crack and he's used to working with children so he's trying not to startle her
@@themoviebud1988 I know right?! To be fair they are the kind of people who will say “oh I didn’t know this song was talking about _” and it’s literally in the lyrics. Like Sean Kingstons Beautiful Girls, “did you know that was about rejection making you want to unalive yourself?” “Yes, he says it repeatedly throughout the song.” 😅 I don’t think they even lasted the year 😬
I know you guys tend to stick with lighter stuff but, "Enough" is sssooo good. I loved it back in the day and it would be interesting to see a more current take on it.
You guys should also do 'Down with Love' IMO! This was a fun one that was decently enough executed and I love that they didn't make Fran some sort of villain to make this couple work - her being sweet and lovely actually added to the drama in a good way and it made the fight to figure things out between them better for it.
this was one of my fave movies when i was in middle school, but watching it now as an adult, it’s definitely got some problematic and unrealistic bits 😂 i’d love to see y’all react to “you’ve got mail” another iconic rom-com 🧡
As a daughter of two medical professionals a paediatrician / general surgeon & consultant father and a dermatologist mother this is probably the worst representation i ever seen of a doctor, like the actual worst lol!
I never hated this movie...but I think only liked arts of it... Judy Greer's parts and all the actual wedding stuff (the planning, flowers etc). I didn't like MM's character, Massimo's fake accent & how he was used was weird. And also, this was supposed to be 'rom-com' but it's a movie that wasn't funny and I didn't find it romantic because of the cheating
I was 14 and this boy walked into the church camp half way through the week. I immediately knew I would marry him. Cant explain it but i knew in my soul he and I were meant to be together. 12 years later and we are married legally and have our wedding this October. Im not saying everyone who says "its love at first sight" are being for real but for me, it was the most real thing in the world.
I feel like I was watching a (Therapists react to The Wedding Planner) with how much you hyper analyzed the toxic dynamics between all the characters but now that I think about it that's sort of been a staple of the Movie Buds brand since it's inception!🏳🌈🥰
44:05 I wish I would have known this a couple years ago... an Italian man I was friends with made me a meal. I am American and took this to be somewhat intimate and as a gesture that he may like me. (It was wrong of me to assume) I ended up developing a crush on him. I bought him a small present for Christmas that year and I haven't heard from him since 😭😂
Fun fact about *that* part of statues you mentioned at 40:57 . When marble male sculptures like that were popularly made, that part of your body being large in statues meant you were oafish and therefore stupid so they would deliberately make it look small in order to convey intelligence. So the models for those statues may well have actually had average or large dingdongs but the artists just sized them down for the sculpture. Just a really interesting fact I learnt studying art :)
My mother loves this movie. Whenever we caught it on tv she’d stop and watch it. Now, we both really like J Lo as an actress-for me it’s Selena and Enough, for Mom it’s this movie and Monster-in-law. But Mom just lights up when she watches a Matthew McConaughey romcom. Personally, I don’t get the charm. The only 2 movies I like him in are How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fools’ Gold. Both of which pair him with Kate Hudson. So I think it’s safe to say, for me McConaughey doesn’t work in a romcom without Hudson. Still, I love watching my stoic mother just brighten up and grin when she watches romcom McConaughey, but especially The Wedding Planner. The statue scene just cracks her up!
Somehow, I'm not a big matthew mcconaughey girl but I do love this movie. Not in my favourites but still nice when you want a little comfort movie moment.
I watched this and the wedding date (with Debra messing) with my friend one weekend and we both agreed the wedding date was a much better movie in every way
26:15 I knew my husband was the one the first time I laid eyes on him. We were 18 and 16 and through a series of crazy events we met at a friend's house. My grandmother had died and her funeral had been the week prior. The moment I saw him, i heard my grandmother's voice in my head say "This one is special, don't let him go." It turned out for years we had known the same people but had just never met. I actually met his stepbrothers years before I met him. We're still together 15 years later. I dont necessarily think love at first sight happens for everyone, but I do believe it happens.
Yes, the M&Ms coating isn't chocolate. But the inside is chocolate, and the point they're making is that because chocolate is brown, it takes less brown coating to stop the chocolate from showing THROUGH the coating than, say, yellow coating. They're not saying the coating itself is chocolate.
This movie plays out like a romance novel so much so that it genuinely surprises me that it isn't based on one 😂 Also, fun fact: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brendan Frasier were originally cast but both had the drop out separately due to scheduling conflicts.
I don't know if you guys take recommendations, but I think you should do "the backup plan. " It's another movie with Jennifer Lopez. I don't want to say much just in case you guys never watched it but I think it's a very good movie.😇
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid to a teenager. It came out when I was 10 and it was just a simple movie. As an adult, I watched it a few years ago and there are some definite choices that didn't need to be made. Why is she Italian? That choice is just perplexing.
I just watch this movie for the first time so I could watch you guys reaction I know I'm gonna love it and I can't wait for more from you guys hope y'all are having great day or night
The artificial coloring in the US, mainly red 40 has been linked to a lot of digestive issues and carcinogens. The dyes used in the US have to have warning labels in other countries to the point where they just changed the colors or ingredients to market overseas.
From what I've read, they made *them* small on statues because small were seen as signs of courage and strength. Some also thought those men were more fertile. Larger were seen as signs of men who were more impulsive, less dignified, unable to control himself, not men of virtue or intelligence.
I know every line of this movie! It's one of my favorites and While You Were Sleeping. “Oh no, darn it... I just remembered that I promised my friend's brother's godmother that I would help her change her fax cartridge because she's going out of town tomorrow... on an African safari.” - Me trying to lie.
Watching a scrabble match? There’s a moment like that in Akeelah and the Bee. It’s a great movie starring Keke Palmer when she’s a kid. I think you guys would like it. Lawerence Fishburne and Angela Bassett also star in it 👏🏽
You guys have my favorite channel! I absolutely love your reactions! It’s so fun watching you do romance movies. I think a really good one for you guys to watch is letters to Juliet (2010) it’s got a really interesting plot line. But definitely problematic in other areas. Don’t think I’ve seen anyone else react to it. It would be a good one!
so I've never seen this movie but I did assume Mathew was the fiancé of the lady she's planning for but he def has been flirting with her since they met so it is very strange
44:10 wow I’ve never felt more seen than right now lol. My mom’s side of the family hates cooking and they all think I’m bizarre because I LOVE to make food for people to enjoy (my dad’s side is Sicilian).
This was one of my favorite sleepover rom coms as a kid. One thing I appreciate is that they didn't make Fran into a heinous shrew to make us more okay with the emotional infidelity. I've seen that in a lot of other movies and it's just unnecessary. Some other great cheesy 90s and 2000s rom coms you guys might like are Someone Like You, Runaway Bride, You've Got Mail, Kate and Leopold, He's Just Not That Into You, Just Like Heaven, and Two Weeks Notice
For another San Francisco wedding movie... but far more problematic... 1999's The Bachelor (with Chris O'Donnell). You'd have a good time with the utter insanity (and if you have seen it, you know what I mean. Because wtf lol). Oh. And if you can find it (it's probably difficult), another Bridget Wilson romcom (and I use this word kindly) - Love Stinks. Featuring a profoundly questionable relationship.
I have an ex coworker that would disagree with your take on Scrabble. She was a part of a Scrabble club. Lol She always carried her Scrabble tiles and played speed Scrabble on her lunch break.
Lmao a lot does change in three years cause I remember watching this when I was 21 (I’m 24 now) and I used to think that m&m’s scene and how they came back to it in the end was cute along with the other things that don’t matter that much but realizing it actually is kinda dumb😂 I learn sm in your commentaries and it’s honestly refreshing cause everyone’s reactions are always the same, which is why I appreciate commentaries more since I get to see everyone’s differing opinions on movies I enjoy
I am relieved that you two have similar feelings to mine about this film. It just does not "hit" right. I have never been able to get over the fact that she has so much trauma from being cheated on, but gets together with a cheater. And viewers are supposed to be happy about it. Massimo's accent is just 🙉. I noticed even decades ago that is not just horrible, but it is not even consistent. There are moments where I feel like the accent switches between American or other European countries. I question the actor and director about their choice to go with it. Noticed that a few mentioned similar, but I have found all of the Jennifer Lopez rom-coms I watched just okay. I know some "love" certain films and I don't hate them, but I just didn't find any of them compelling when I originally saw them so I have not (re)watched her rom-coms in years even though I think she has come out with a couple new ones since then. Hope she has picked better characters/films since then because she is not a bad actresses.
14:30 i agree, from the thumbnail i thought he looked just off and its def cuz of the hair lol (honestly thought he was justin timberlake at first from the hair)
I don’t know if you guys will see this, but please do Pizza My Heart (2005). It’s the only version of Romeo and Juliet I can watch, and I’ve been wanting y’all to watch it for a while. While it may be a bit cheesy (pun absolutely intended), it’s so sweet and I love the story. Thank you both! Love your videos!
Thanks so much for the suggestion but I don’t think we can afford to do such a little known movie for a while. We really appreciate your support 😊 - Sam
i used to love this movie, and as always, you find the kinks in it and honestly, they make sense. I love watching your movies because you guys always pick out what is wrong and right in every situation.
when steph said Salvatore all i thought of was Michael Cera in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Would be a great reaction from the musicians' perspective.
So much nostalgia for this movie. Watched it so much when I was younger 💒 Speaking of weddings, is Muriel's Wedding on the list? I could barely find any reactions or even reviews of it, though I'd love to see an Australian perspective on it, and yours' in particular 💐
I just clicked on this. I'm a whole 32sec in. THIS WAS MY ISH when I was waiting for the bus in the morning in elementary school. THIS IS MY SHIIIITTTTTTT!!!
Funnily enough I think Matthew McConaughey's natural hair color is supposed to be closer to what he had in this movie 😂 Even though J-Lo is talented, I don't think I've seen her in a good movie yet.
What the fuck, Sugar Pie Desanto was a real person, not a transphobic punchline. She was an R&B singer in the 50s and 60s who worked a lot with Etta James. What a bizarre line to add.
True, but the yellow, orange and red food coloring can be bad, even provoke irritation or worse case cancer. That is why Skittles and some M&M are banned in Europe.
16:59 it's in the evening she could've gone "gotta go, it's getting late have fun you two" now i guess he might have taken it as a sign to leave as well :/ i think the mix of unflattering hair colour, receading hairline, overrown looking haircut and unflattering glasses make him look to much like an actual person
Massimo's accent is so weird. I didn't even realize it was supposed to be Italian. Also, I thought he had a speech impediment as a kid, because it never seemed like an accent to me.
It's kinda funny, but I just watched a trailer for a BL thai show that is basically this movie, and then I saw you posted this. I had completely forgot about this movie, now I wonder if the show is based off this movie.
The actual reason the man bits were small on all the old marble statues was because the ancient Greeks and Romans considered larger genitalia to be vulgar and immodest. Attractive men had smaller, modest junk🤷🏻♀️

Don’t think I’ve seen anyone else react to it. It would be a good one!
Thanks so much! We really appreciate that 😊 letters to Juliet is a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, right? - Sam
@@themoviebud1988 I just looked it up. It is not. it was inspired by the 2006 book letters to Juliet by Lise Eve Friedman and Ceil Jann Friedman
This is gonna be a weird suggestion, but could you guys do Paddington? I love that movie so much, despite it being a kid's movie.
so I've never seen this movie but I did assume Mathew was the fiancé of the lady she's planning for but he def has been flirting with her since they met so it is very strange
44:10 wow I’ve never felt more seen than right now lol. My mom’s side of the family hates cooking and they all think I’m bizarre because I LOVE to make food for people to enjoy (my dad’s side is Sicilian).
You guys should do sister act 1 and 2…please 😊
I was thinking the same thing
Yesssssss
triple agree
Also, I'd love to see you taking a chance on "Selena", now that you've tried a Jennifer L movie
Oh gosh please do Monster-In-Law next!
it's so weird and funny to see toolbox alex karev from grey's anatomy by this little italian weirdo lol
I never would've thought to add mushrooms to mac n cheese.
I was having a bad day till i saw the notification for you guys 😊
Sorry about your day, but I'm glad you could enjoy our vid 😊 - Sam
Love this so muuuuch!! Thank you guys you made my day ❤ I usually save them for when I'm getting ready for work, but guess I couldn't wait lol
Can't wait for Monster in law
To see Justin Chambers so young, its crazy...
Massimo is Alex Karev on Greys Anatomy just much younger! ♥️
So much nostalgia for this movie. Watched it so much when I was younger 💒
Speaking of weddings, is Muriel's Wedding on the list? I could barely find any reactions or even reviews of it, though I'd love to see an Australian perspective on it, and yours' in particular 💐
I just clicked on this. I'm a whole 32sec in. THIS WAS MY ISH when I was waiting for the bus in the morning in elementary school. THIS IS MY SHIIIITTTTTTT!!!
Funnily enough I think Matthew McConaughey's natural hair color is supposed to be closer to what he had in this movie 😂 Even though J-Lo is talented, I don't think I've seen her in a good movie yet.
did not realise that Justin chamber (karev in greys anatomy) was in this film!
What the fuck, Sugar Pie Desanto was a real person, not a transphobic punchline. She was an R&B singer in the 50s and 60s who worked a lot with Etta James. What a bizarre line to add.
Yusssss!!!!! Can't wait for The Buff Summer!!!
Thanks so much! Video is posting in about an hour

True, but the yellow, orange and red food coloring can be bad, even provoke irritation or worse case cancer. That is why Skittles and some M&M are banned in Europe.
16:59 it's in the evening she could've gone "gotta go, it's getting late have fun you two" now i guess he might have taken it as a sign to leave as well :/
i think the mix of unflattering hair colour, receading hairline, overrown looking haircut and unflattering glasses make him look to much like an actual person
Please do 27 dresses!!!
Massimo's accent is so weird. I didn't even realize it was supposed to be Italian. Also, I thought he had a speech impediment as a kid, because it never seemed like an accent to me.
Noo there are noooo arranged marriages in Italy - no way!
Love this movie❤ so charming, have the dvd😁
Definitely an odd movie, I only liked it when was 13. Good reaction.
Funny, I saw this notification earlier and I’m on a ferry crossing today and there was a TV showing this movie
It's kinda funny, but I just watched a trailer for a BL thai show that is basically this movie, and then I saw you posted this. I had completely forgot about this movie, now I wonder if the show is based off this movie.
Fun fact. She was dating Diddy at this time!
The actual reason the man bits were small on all the old marble statues was because the ancient Greeks and Romans considered larger genitalia to be vulgar and immodest. Attractive men had smaller, modest junk🤷🏻♀️
YES I'M SO EXCITED!!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Chea! 😊 - Sam
Perrrrfect timing yesss
