    Just wanted to drop a thank you for this review. Well balanced, with both good and bad points. :)
    Edited 29OCT20 ***
    The Jabiru has received a minor update bringing us from v1.1 to 1.2.
    The changelog is as follows;
    - Moment of inertia values further refined to reduce 'sluggishness' exhibited in v1.1
    - Nosewheel steering adjusted.
    - Flaps now add additional lift and drag when deployed.
    - Autostart no longer automatically sets up aircraft to take-off condition.
    - Modifications to Bush Trip restrictions in line with MS Bush Trips.
    ---
    Version 1.1 has now dropped, and thanks to the feedback of Dave (NOTAM) and others, the following items are addressed;
    All aircraft
    - Refined stall warning horn to trigger at 16 degrees AoA.
    - Moment of interia values adjusted on roll and pitch.
    - Improved autopilot lateral capture.
    - Refined prop wash values.
    - Prohibited doors opening when airborne.
    - Refined roll effectiveness.
    - Reduced AI traffic values to reduce overpopulation.
    - Added missing flap motor audio.
    - Adjusted thumbnail brightness for clarity.
    - Auto-start and Auto-Shutdown functions now configure the aircraft appropriately.
    - Additional cameras added to pilot, instrument and showcase views.
    - Remastered audio for increased dynamic range.
    - Increased cockpit texture resolution for improved visuals.
    J170-C
    - Added Novawing24.com trim scheme.
    - Fixed unanimated rudder pedals.
    - Added missing J170-C placards to C model J170 paints.
    J170-D
    - Removed gyro audio.
    - Improved functionality of AS3X instrument.
    - Adjusted VH-DLB with new colours in line with new IRIS branding.
    J170-C/D
    - Fixed reversed compasses.
    - Improved landing light.
    - Added cockpit night lighting.
    Gippsland Tour Bushtrip
    - Relocated Lilydale start location.
    - Defaulted to Live Weather for additional challenge.
    ---
    Flight model has had SOME tweaks, but edge of the envelope behaviour is still an issue as we learn the new simulator flight model changes. More updates will come over time. :)
    Can't fault it really, if you're a Jabiru fan, or just want something to sightsee in, then it's a good plane IMO, though don't expect A2A. :D lol.
    Once again, thanks for the feedback.

    This is a really great review! I'm going to buy this plane only because I've got about 20hrs of real time in both the 160/170, albeit tis been a few years. Looking forward to checking out the flight model but I'm a little concerned. I do recall that the Jabiru I flew was very difficult to stall. I vaguely recall my instructor saying it can vary from plane to plane suprisingly. If you want to see the Jabiru in action in real life I have about 15hrs of footage on my RUclips channel, including an episode on stalls. Looking forward to more of your reviews in future!

    First off, I must say, your content is absolutely top notch! : ) Enjoyable, but also extremely informative.
    It seems like your opinions on the product broadly mirror my own, though perhaps coming at it from slightly different angles. Overall, I do think the package represents decent value for money, with all that’s included; variants, cockpits, bush trip (nice touch) etc. As you say, it isn’t groundbreaking, but for anyone with an interest in Jabiru aircraft, I think it’s a solid effort. I also think it’s probably ticking a lot of boxes for the market it’s trying to appeal to. I’m definitely someone who enjoys their high fidelity addons, but I have hopped back in this one a couple of times now, just for a bit of fun. IRIS Simulations also seem to be very humble and receptive to feedback, which is always great to see from a developer!
    I too was a bit unsure of the aircrafts roll response / inertia. I’m not really any the wiser now, as I’ve heard mixed feedback from a few Jabiru drivers. Some saying the flight model looks reasonable, others not so much. Ultimately I expect reality lies somewhere in the middle. . .
    Anyway, great vid once again! Really enjoying the channel : )

    Dave, I already complimented both the form and content of your King Air video on Avsim, but I just wanted to say here that I really appreciated the respect for your users' time that you showed with your "OK, the review part is done now" comment in this video. That sort of respect is something that is desperately lacking amongst the many content creators who seem to operate on the assumption that they own your time and you'll happily let them waste it. For that, if nothing else, I have subscribed. (Your content is pretty good, too. :D ) Keep it up!

      Thanks Rob, appreciate the kind words. Its always a tough balance between getting the appropriate amount of content and information out while still getting to the point. Doesn't help that everyone will have a different opinion on this. Some say why can't you just give us the conclusion while the next group will say how did you arrive at that conclusion, but clearly all the non relevant information doesn't belong. I can't stand being 5 minutes into a video where they haven't even touched on the reason I'm there. Thanks for the kind words.

    The importance of realistic sounds is underestimated. When flying I listen to the engine so I know the correct RPM. When landing I fly only by the sound since the focus is on the runway. Good review

    Thanks for the review, while I felt the Jabiru was being damned by feint praise all the way through, it matched my concerns especially to the most important aspect for me which is the flight model. Being an A2A customer for both FSX and P3D, I was hoping for a small GA touring plane for the low and slow sight seeing that flew realistically. With the information provided, I will pass and watch to see if future revisions provide a realistic flight experience.

    There us no differential braking on the Jab. It has essentially a hand brake forward of the yoke next to the trim. The 160 is pretty precise. The 170 is much slower in roll. I think ill get it. I hope the flight model gets better. It stalls quite gently. Sorry if this is toooo long. :)

    Are you making initially footage in the sim and then voiceover in production?

    • @NOTAM1
      @NOTAM1  4 года назад +1

      A bit of both. I record voice while recording in sim to ensure I don't make a mistake on what's happening and what I was thinking. Then in post production I'd say I do a voiceover my initial voice recording for anywhere between 40-80% of it (depending on how much I was drinking while recording) :) Should probably stop the drinking... might reduce my post time and improve my flying, lol.

    I greatly appreciate your reviews. You have now become a primary go to source for information. I have been taken to many times in the past by false representations. Furthermore, I do try hard to research and carefully analyze an aircraft to determine if it will meet my needs before considering a purchase more than ever because these aircraft purchases can really add up over time, therefore one has to be more selective these days. Thank you, and keep up the excellent work!

      I'd agree with that assessment. For our first plane (and a simple one at that for good reason), in this new platform, it's a good aircraft to a. learn the development workflow for the new sim and b. not to complex. :D It's not going to light the world on fire, but then it's not a dumpster fire...well just yet! lol.

    • @NOTAM1
      @NOTAM1  4 года назад

      Thanks Confused Dad, always appreciate the support. I can say this, this wasn't rushed as could be noticed with the amount of extras and variations included. There is a lot here for other developers to take notice. If as the comment by IRIS here states this is a learning experience for them, I'm expecting great things in the future from them. Great attitude from IRIS IMO, lets learn and improve instead of recoil and criticize.

    Good to see another honest review! It's great to see they've included in-game checklists even if they're not interactive, I really have no idea what other developers are thinking by neglecting this great new feature of MSFS, it's such a nice touch to not have to have a PDF open on my other screen. Thanks for another great review.
    About the stall speed, and what happens at 12:15 (ruclips.net/video/q_jLiPqMYuA/видео.html), my flight instructor actually got us in the same flight attitude in a Land Africa (the high-wing model you can see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRM_Land_Africa ), except with even higher AoA, literally felt like hanging on the propeller, speed showin 0 (not stopped, just the gauge would not work in that attitude) and no loss of altitude. He was praising the capabilities of the airplane and just said "if you are Ok, I can show you what this can do", and I just believe it because I was there.
    Not saying the flight model is right or wrong in this Jabiru though, just my little input here. If it was me reviewing the aircraft, would probably have the same feeling as you.

    Another good review! I wanted to add a couple of my findings. On the J-170D, the Heading/Altitude and Course/Baro knobs are broken. They make a clicking sound when you scroll the mouse over them, but do not function to change the appropriate settings. When you click near the center of the PFD, a PFD screen opens from the right. Not sure if this is correct as no documentation for the PFD is included.
    There is a bug at the very beginning of the included Bush Trip. The very first spawn at YLIL starts with the J-160 on the same spot as a C172. You have the C172 instrument panel filling the screen. I had to move my POV forward through the C172 panel and firewall. You only have a few inch gap before the J-160 panel. Just wide enough to click the switches to get the plane started so you can taxi out from under the Cessna and start your adventure.

    I too purchased this aircraft and liked the exterior and interior. I was really looking for what I would guess should be a great flight model. This one missed out on that! I also was disappointed in the stall response, but maybe that is accurate. Hopefully the developer will fix these issues and make it a more fun and realistic plane to fly.

    I'm really liking your thorough reviews and other content. Keep it up. I think this aircraft looks cool. The pricing model that's been created in flight sims over the years really goes against other types of games. In Arma 3 for example, an aircraft like this would have been released for free. And study level race cars are offered in race sims for free or as part of a DLC bundle with other cars and a track for the same price as this aircraft. So I'm always blown away at what people are charging, but I know that's a flight sim thing. It's frustrating though to think, "oh this looks like a cool plane that I'd love to fly, but not for $25." I mean, the game itself didn't cost much more than that. For that price, it better be better than the vanilla aircraft.

    • @NOTAM1
      @NOTAM1  4 года назад

      Thanks Feint, yeah flight sim pricing doesn't really follow any other industry. A lot of us DCS'ers will pay 80usd for study level aircraft. This adds up quick when you start owning all the models. On the flip side of that coin it takes multiple years to create something so detailed.

    • @Largetalons
      @Largetalons 2 года назад

      It's a small niche market and the prices reflect that. If the big players were making all of these aircraft from scratch, it wouldn't be the exact same models for fs9, fsx, p3d, x-plane, and now msfs2020. $25-60+ for a port that goes through an update process is a bit much. Not speaking on dcs. Not big on combat sims but I'll watch a reenactment when I'm drunk.

    looks OK as you said but I don't think it is worth the price as it isn't a thing I would fly much ... 1/3 of MSFS 2020's price is ridiculous, for me it looks like a 9,99 € plane.

    I fly with a 65 inch 4K OLED that sits merely a meter from my face, so interiors can be really inmersion-breaking if done badly. And when most of the cockpit is well done but the largest surfaces have FSX-Era mesh complexity and resolution... they stick out like a sore thumb. Very few addons seem to take texture resolution with enough seriousness... Altough the fact that almost all models come from previous flight sims doesnt help, I imagine.

    • @NOTAM1

      I agree, I find it strange as you'd think the interior texture resolution would be one of the things they take most seriously but I find it everywhere. Good review. I have bought it as every aero club here in Australia seems to have one for hire. The interior textures do need work but to be honest a good texture artist could fix most of it quickly. As an experiment I added some basic metal texture to one of the steam gauge panels (original i.imgur.com/D2rVsdZ.jpg and modified i.imgur.com/OYxgCsH.png) and the difference was definitely noticeable. They just need to put some time into it, or hire a better graphics person. They seem to have gone with quantity and bright colours and graphics over quality with the interiors.
    There are currently multiple small bugs including the pedals not animating in one cockpit and the PFD buttons being inop in another. The magnetic compass is also wacky. The FM needs work, these little planes do tend to mush rather than stall, but the stall is not right, on the plus side it is one of the few MSFS GA planes you can keep in trim, it is very stable. I am personally happy enough with my purchase, especially as the developer seems keen to fix any issues which is a very good sign.

    • @NOTAM1
      @NOTAM1  4 года назад

      Thanks Glen. I don't disagree with you at all, many could easily be fixed but I can't review based on what could be done. I have to present as is regardless of how easy it is to fix. I noticed the rudder pedals not animating and a few other things but have to decide what to include or not in the review for brevity. I'm also careful not to pick an aircraft apart with details that I believe are less important or might be fixed as in the end this is far from an aircraft that is crap or trying to scam someone. I can tell the dev spent some time to include a lot in this package and need to balance what isn't right with a solid effort on devs part.

    • @Edam-Channel

      @@NOTAM1 Overall it is a good mod and I have no regrets about the purchase. It has become my default ride for doing a couple of circuits at the local airport before work, I love the way you can trim for circuit height and it pretty much stays there like it should, which is not the case for a lot of other aircraft at present.
      They seem to be very proactive about fixing any problems which is fantastic, it is just a shame these little issues were not picked up earlier as they probably lost a few early sales through it. Hopefully it will be better sorted by the time it hits the MS marketplace.

      This happens on the Bird Dog also, starting from cold and dark. The standard is clockwise as you’re looking from the cockpit and on these aircraft the props are pitched for clockwise. Not sure if this is beyond the control of the developers and a MSFS problem but it is a pretty bad right in your face mistake the moment you start the aircraft.

      I agree with the quality of textures. I'm not so sure if this is a quick port though. There is a good amount of work here that seems new, just some items where they missed the boat. In MSFS the minimum standard for textures are the default models and these don't stack up though.
