In our research, we spoke to the soldier who blew the whistle on this specific coup. He reported to his superior, who took him directly before Acheampong to report what they'd try to get him in. It seems the conspirators believed Acheampong to have been 'Nkrumah's boy' and expected him to transition the government back to an Nkrumahist reality. But students of that time feel Acheampong, like Rawlings later, had a more center-left view, and like the PNDC, didn't neccesary see the multi-party system as workable. Unlike the PNDC however, Acheampong was crippled in his uncompromising Economic policies by the international community, and resorted to corruption and patronage later on, which further worsened his reputation.
It's a pity that today, modern politicians and so-called thinkers see it fit to water down a complex history like the Acheampong era to simple good and evil. Ghanaian, and indeed African history suffers at the hands of such callous actors.

Avant qu'il ne soit ultimement exécuté en 1979. This is why army's should never be involved in politics.

The Utuka and Acheampong executions were filmed and pictured. If you search it up you will see the pictures of both of them on stakes but the 26th June executions were not filmed or pictured by tashiri’s command as he said no pictures or videos of it
