I question the board members motives for allowing these books rather than the books themselves , this is just unbelievable
As parents, we need to know who is running for the school board because we elect them. We need to research who they are, their previous and past history on what they have supported. Whether or not they are local or have relocated from another district and why. Otherwise, it is playing Russian roulette with your child's education and well being.

You do know that not a single school board, republican/democrat or liberal/conservative that has read every single book that is in every single library in their district. Considering an average school of 500 students has about 15,000 books in the library. My school board is over 150 schools but it's one of the biggest. So say each school board has 100 schools each with 15,000 books (most will be common I know but not all). Do you think that ANY school board has reviewed/read every single book? No? Of course not. They rely on it being brought to their attention which is what is being done here. So why does it matter who is voted in? How long have these books been at the schools? How many school board members have came and gone? It doesn't matter because they are not tasked with reading 15,000 books. Do you think every school board in the US is liberal? NO so why does it matter who is voted in. Unless they don't do anything when it's brought to their attention and I didni't get that from this story.

I don’t understand why if the book has a graphic scene or two but still has educational and informative value, we can’t put it behind the front desk where it can be requested and limit how many people can check it out at once, rather than out in the open? Seems the most logical compromise to me.

My mom was never worried about if I saw other people doing drugs or read a book about the usage of drugs or if I saw sex on TV, she want worried because she was confident on the way she brought me up, she was confident in me on making the right choice, and it’s no one’s job to save anyone. Education, dear people, changes people; so do books. To read every single book in YOUR school library would be a huge task, and would incapacitate it for ages. You want that, don't you? Ever thought about sports, and how MALES hug each other after smashing the opposing team to bits? And if you don't think that teens talk and think about their changing biology, there is a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

If kids can be taught to social distance over a cold, they can be taught to social distance to prevent all STD's and pregnancies with 100% guarantee. Parents are responsible for this sort of education to their kids and it was a mistake to put it in the classroom.
They used to be, and how we have entire generations that don’t know how the uterus functions or even how pregnancy works. The point is these parents are likely either not going to give accurate up to date information or are more likely to pass on their biases or lack of information.

Do you people really think that every school board reads every single book that is on the shelf in a whole library? An average of between 10,001 and 15,000 books are in common stock at all schools with over 500 students. I think a school board has other tasks that they take care of and can't be expected to proofread 15,000 books. They probably rely on a recommended basis and it is not surprising that a few slipped through that might not be approprieate. If it's brought to their attention and then nothing is done then I see it being their fault but some of these books have probably been in the libraries for years and with different school board members. The thing is parents didn't get involved with the school board until it became viral to do so. The books probably sat unchecked out and the parents only know about them from their "Mom's of Liberty" meetings. Again I'm not disputing that these books with explicit sexual content should not be in the schools I"m just pointing out that the school board members didn't purposefully put this content in the library or refuse to take it out when they became aware of it. If you have the impression that any school board should have read every book that came into a library then you're delusional

We as parents always say, "Ya need to do better!" I understand much respect for what parents are saying about this topic. But no no no now, let's not all blame and point fingers at the School's librarians and the ISD. With all that is happening in the world and there are no boundaries anymore. What used to be abnormal in society has become the epitome of normalization now. We as parents must always try to talk to our kids as well and ask how is school and what is changing inside the school they attend. This is a new generation and new era of different ideas of what material the schools possess. But where are the PTO meetings with interaction from parents and staff who can come together and make decisions before books like this make it on the shelves? I am a parent and I have seen how time has made a lot of difference in our school systems and nothing like the '80s. Much respect to all parents who make a difference!

We had a copy of The Happy Hooker by Xavier Hollander in our school library.
It was very popular among the boys.
When was that? It was probably a mistake on the part of the school library; maybe they thought it was about crochet or rug making.😂 I went to a strict Catholic school in the late 1970s and even so our library had a few really twisted books in our paperback section; I can’t believe our librarian knew what was in them. One, which I read at 13, was about a very disturbed young boy in a mental institution who is subjected to horrific abuse, both by staff and other patients, and it turned out he was there for horribly abusing a little girl. It was told in first person from his point of view, so it seriously messed me up. If I came across the same book now I wouldn’t let anyone under 18 near it.

As a non-transgender male myself born in 1998 from Australia from the younger generation with no criminal record plus I am both mentally and physically stable who lives in harsh reality not delusional fantasy. I grew up in a culture where females and males were literally kept apart from each other. They were kept apart from each other from bathrooms, bedrooms, changing rooms, locker rooms, prisons, and obviously sports. It is very inappropriate to mix random females and random males together because sadly there will always be some not all but some predatory weak males who will abuse, rape, & murder innocent females. Also sadly there will always be some not all but some paranoid weak females who will falsely accuse innocent males of abuse & rape plus there will always be some not all but some predatory weak females who will physically abuse, sexually assault, & murder innocent people especially little boys. I could respect and understand that transgender people suffer from gender dysphoria which is absolutely depressing & my heart goes out to them. I believe transgender people should have their own private facilities to keep them safe from any anti-transgender bigoted predators around the world who intends to do them any harm. To all my fellow human brothers and sisters around the world, stay cautious & always remember be genuine & take care of one another.
