Thanks Tim ,very interesting, we used to go to The Mill, way back had some fab evenings in there, and a dance in the disco underneath. We went to the other pubs too with friends. Mosbrough Hall had banquet evenings,remember going there, and the staff dressed up in edwardian costumes, we had bibs on and ate with fingers and drank mede. Happy memories. I've just typed Shambles mosborough in and on Sheffield forum page it says it was part of Eckington hall which was over the road from mosborough hall. We were like you having nominated drivers. Would go down have some Blast Aways (Castaway and diamond white) snake bites, and Grolsch in bottles thinking we were Bros (ha ha). With being from Kivo it made a change from the Saxon Sam Smith ale. (ps Tim it's Lee not Ian lol didn't have the heart to tell you)
I used to live on Westfield during the 70s and 80s so used to go to Mosborough a lot. The shops have all changed. The post office and florist have gone and Herrings used to be another shop back then with fruit and veg stalls outside. Tonys chip shop has been there years though. There were some nice walks from Mosborough Village, through Plumbley and Eckington Woods to Ford and then through countrside to Coal Aston. I worked at Eckington Hall for a while as well and we cooked medieval banquets. That was a goid night out but they sold the place and made the Shambles and spoilt it. Have a nice Christmas Tim and good 2025. It's just a day and its good to do something different.

The supermarket is going to be a co-op and has had to have alterations, since they built it to a lower standard than they said in planning. The Royal Oak pub was also in that location, that apparently had toxic waste dumped, and the owners claimed the only option was to demolish it (without planning permission)
What about Turners Ice cream shop on the corner of Station Road and High Street, they used to go around Killamarsh, we had Joe's Ice Cream when we lived on the flower estate in Beighton, My sister attended Westfield and The Mill when it first opened. lol.
@timawells yes, I remember it Tim. As you go past it on the left towards halfway and the roundabout, look immediately left and then right. That's the original road blocked off Tim 👍
Got married in St Marks 1991. Lived at Waterthorpe. Both out kids christened at St Marks. Then off to be Vine for a propper pub piss up...Moved to Adelaide almost 21 yrs ago. Tonys chippy was and im sure still is the best.
Herrings used to be a grocery shop with fruit and veg outside, I think its just a sandwich shop now. The last time I went to that church was to Jeff Burdetts funeral of Burdetts coaches, famous Sheffield coach firm from Mosborough.
Ps. .the chinese take away ..in vid ..used to be a fantastic cafe that lots of us at westfield school would use at lunchtimes . .(doorstep chip butties !)..it had pin ball machines etc was called the.. pop in . .circa 77 ..happy days ..so much colour been taken out of life
i live in S12 Frecheville & Mosbrough is one of my stomping grounds & Mosborough Hall is where i use to work back in the days ( kitchens) btw you should go further to Eckington Renishaw & Barlborough or Killamarsh
Was the shambles in the grounds of Mosborough Hall where my confusion comes from. I have done Barlborough and Killamarsh. I haven't done Eckington or Renishaw.
I am getting the feeling Richard all the useful shops have gone. No butchers. Don't worry the Co-op supermarket is coming and they have removed another pub.
The useful shops are clinging on, run by older people now, when they retire, the offspring don't want to know, Frenchies at Eckington is still there, there used to be a hardware shop on Chatsworth road at Chesterfield that has now closed down.

I remember The Mill, it had a disco downstairs and was always packed.
I loved it. It was a Toby or berni Inn upstairs. I can't believe how the building was just smashed to the ground.

Shambles used to be across the road from mosborough hall. It looked like mosborough Hall so u may well be. It's now a big house now.

Are you talking about the Mill pub Richard as I go back to Halfway. I don't know why it was knocked down and then became a area of grass.
