I've come to notice during the fight that you have a lot of bad habits that you should try to break when doing focused fights 😭 Things like not remembering what your sinners' skills roll, or what those skills do (which tbf a lot of recent ids have effect lists the length of short novellas, but power related buffs are good to look out for, like princess rodion's skill 2), or just forgetting which skills you're clashing with! You're also wayyyy too prone to freezing up when you see a neutral or struggling clash and opt to offset a random defensive skill instead, even if you did it multiple times to the same skill that turn (or even if the offset does nothing, like the times you offset the bushes without also having someone else attack it); a neutral clash is better than taking unopposed attacks!! You're gonna deal with more mandatory reading fights, so the earlier you stop making the game more needlessly difficult for yourself, the less ragequits you'll have! Pass my skill check (sloth advantage)
Uptie Liu ishmael so she isn’t just wasting a team slot, her having a ten rolling skill 2 is a massive problem, and if you can’t fill every team slot for a fight with leveled & up tied ids, it’s fine to go in with one less, you get extra skills slots every turn until you match what you should have with a full team
Yeah reading and understanding the boss is important but this also is the time to learn team composition and enemy weakness too. Putting all of that knowledge to work during this battle helps out immensely!!

In my opnion, this is the first fight that forces you to understand all of the mechanics all at once. All the mechanics were slowly but surely getting explained each fight, and then boom, all of them at once. I appreciate what the fight tries to do but MAN did it take some time to beat it.
Yeah absolutely! After I kind of figured out her skills and what to expect, it just wasn’t enough to beat her. And then I realized that it’s about team composition and understanding enemy weaknesses and how much of an advantage that is. After I beat her I definitely appreciated the difficultly spike because I am not going to make that mistake again lol. At least I hope not 😅
Fun fact: Like many other characters in PM games, DongBack is base on literature(poem)that have same name. But, in korean, Dongback means RED CAMELLIA. Not yellow spicebush. It's because author write its title in 영남방언(south accent) But many people didn't know this and misunderstanding that poem. Just like character DongBack hidden her true purpose
Gotta say, for how hard this boss was, the music most DEFINITELY made up for it. Dongbaek did not deserve to die like that too, i felt as if instead of being someone bad she was just frustrated and angry at the world for separating her friends.
1:21:50 Dongbaek's third skill slot was already clashing with Ryoshu's ego but you redirected the clash with Ryoshu's purple skill. Since you know that purple skill is dominating already you can use that the ego instead for Dongbaek's second skill slot which went through since her speed is at 1. An easy way to see which skill is clashing is not to look at the at the arrows in the middle of the screen but at the slots above each sinner's head, yellow is clashing and blue is going through without clashing or a defense skill. If the skills that are going through without clashing, figure out if you can improve your chances by seeing wether those blue skills can help redirect other clashes that are favourable or less. Edit: I do agree with you at the end there. While it is true that you did not read the mechanics during the first part, the main problem was your team composition. This boss would've been way easier if you had access to Faust's and Honglu's Egos that have attack weight(basically hits multiple enemies). You did use Honglu but you werent generating the right sin resources to use his ego.
Welcome to the start of a trend. From now on, the part 2 boss of a Canto is, somehow, consistently the hardest boss of the Canto, harder than even the final boss or bosses that feel like they should be harder. Only exception is Canto 7, which to be fair part 2 boss is also really tough, it just... also has several other really tough bosses that are contenders.

Probably one of my favorite fights in this game, just for being relatively simple, but unable to unga bunga win rate botton, since you will have some turns of being down the action economy, and using weak attacks against her evade is a good way to become bush. It is probably one of the i think three (main) fights i have seen pull some teeth for people in general (excluding pre nerf kromer, due to her being close to impossible if your team had burn or bleed iirc)

One thing you need to know is that although base egos roll higher than skills, since most skills have multiple coins, they usually outdamage the base egos aside from Hong Lu's and Fausts since they can attack multiple enemies. If you need to win a strong attack, use base egos but if an enemy is staggered it's usually better to just use skills unless you have a strong damage ego. Imo the best base egos are Mersault's, Hong Lu's and Fausts ego because of their utilities.
Oh boy, oh boy. I can't wait to see your reaction on canto 5's midboss. If you're having trouble against this, goodluck on the next and also the one after canto 5.
The most common mistake I see, even in the winning attempt, is forgetting what you already clashed with. There are a lot of times your sinners' strong skills get wasted on onesided attacks when you instead could have every character not clashing burn their skill 1s to get them out of rotation. Also at 1:22:00 you have Ryoshu use her forest for the flames EGO, but it ends up being onesided while one of Dongbaek's "magnificent spring breeze" doesn't get clashed with at all. I strongly recommend in the future difficult fights when you finish setting up your turn take a moment to look at what your skillbar says is going to be done and if you see something like an unopposed EGO or skill 2/3 think to yourself "that doesn't seem right" and evaluate the moves you're making.
Dongbaek fight in summary -all of her attacks inflict blooming, even her evade which reuses itself every time it wins, so break her evade by either offset with a defensive dice or roll high enough to break it -only clash the offensive attacks of Dongbaek whenever one of your sinners get stuck and have the rest free the trapped sinner -Dongbaek has attacks that inflict bloom with attack weight, make sure to always win those clashes specifically for it is Ideal -on scene transition, don't bother destroying the branches that don't have your sinners trapped. just focus on clashing with them or letting those that inflict only 1 bloom pass if you really needed a sinner on clash duty against Dongbaek or freeing a sinner. Because the branches usually on the 3rd scene after they spawn, will use a move that on clash lose will automatically destroy itself, and the clash is really weak so its much easier than having to destroy them yourself. -use High rolling EGOs on her big AOE moves -and finally on Duel, while it is generally recommended to have a high roller go through the Duel, I just like using Yi Sang and gamble the atk power up she gains to have even more power in nuking her after Duel. on a side note: at the launch of the game, everyone basically got Blade Lineage Yi Sang for free but he was really bad, that is until Uptie 4 where he became useable and ramps up to being really good, I just like using Blade Lineage Yi Sang against Dongbaek not just because of the slash weakness, but also because BL Yi Sang's darker robes match with Dongbaeks white robes, and having a Katana on Duel is so peak, not to mention that Uptie 4 made BL Yi Sang a really good clasher. In short, it was just so thematically good...too bad he doesnt have an evade dice so i cant even do the dongbaek fight Solo, atleast Devyat Rodya has my back to do that run.
Fun fact, I actually managed to first try Dongbeak out of pure luck x3 I lost one clash (I think it was when you duelled her) and she made a powerful attack that killed my Ishmael (I think it was Reindeer), kept N corp Sinclair in the bush (so staggered), N corp Faust was panicing (at that time, I didn't have an E.G.O. outside her base one) and Sunshower Heathcliff was confused (so he wanted to attack an ally). And the remaining 3, Yi Sang, Ryōshū and Hong Lu, were all corroded x3 Yi Sang with Dimension Shredder, Ryōshū with 4th Match Flame and Hong Lu with Pink Shoes. And somehow, if I remember correct, after she made another AoE and I was like "Welp, guess I have to redo the fight", the game decided I just won x3 To this day, I dunno what happened. She should have defeated me, but the game was like "Nope, you win" But now, I always love to fight her in Mirror Dungeon. I love the music and she is one of my favorites. I even make a Spicebush Dongbaek plush of her currently^^
Continuing my monologue bout EGO from last time, I will say that while it enables someone to immediately become a skilled user, one of the downsides of using an abnormalities EGO gear is that it also limits one’s potential power. If someone on the level of Virgilius were to use any of the EGO worn by the TLA, then they’d probably end up being weaker with it on than without it. Compared to other singularity based weapons and armor, EGO isn’t actually that special. Even the ones drawn from the greatest abnormalities are only really comparable to weapons based on other singularities, like J corp’s locks making someone’s skin functionally invincible or a firehose of decay ampules the benefits of any abnormality’s EGO start falling off eventually. Of course, these downsides only apply to abnormality derived EGO. As you got to see with Dongbaek, a person can manifest their own EGO if the circumstances are correct. I’ll get into what circumstances are required next vid to avoid making this comment to long. In any case, a personal EGO is basically the weilder’s perfect armor or weapon, something that will always be a power multiplier for that person, perfectly suited to their specific style and skills. You can see that after manifesting her EGO Dongbaek was much stronger than she was when using the greatest weaponry and armor the TLA could get ther hands on, because nothing will really be better for you than your own EGO gear. Also I don’t believe that Dongbaek’s EGO ever fully manifested. Considering the overall look of it, and other incidents involving manifested EGO we’ve seen in other project moon stuff, it seems Dongbaek’s EGO was only beginning to crystallize. It was still very much in a fragile state. But don’t worry, you’ll get to witness fully crystallized EGO soon enough.
It's funny to me that Dongbaek gets attack power up when dueling Yi Sang, as if it was relevant at all. If you win the clashes she ain't gonna attack you and if you lose the clashes, it's game over anyway
it seems like it hasn't been thoroughly explained in the comments yet, so i'll throw my hat into the ring. What you fought is what is currently known as an Effloresced EGO. not an EGO granted by the power of an abnormality, not a half-formed shell of a personal EGO that can only be maintained for a moment with the Sinners' Base Zayin EGOs, and certainly not the tools and armor extracted from Abnormalities like they did back in Lobotomy Corporation. Effloresced EGO, otherwise known as Fully Manifested EGO, is the mind made manifest, your *own* ideals and ambitions turned into a weapon and armor personal to you, manifested into existance by remaining steadfast when challenged and backed into a corner mentally, remaining true to yourself and not letting any facade cloud your judgement. It is the magnum opus of power in The City, and one of the central throughlines of the Project Moon games. The finer details will be left anonymous until you find the right moments in the games to explain them, of course, but welcome to your first peek at what the strongest will be. Project Moon certainly made a showing with their first Effloresced EGO in Limbus as a powerful force, even in the hands of someone you wouldn't call a seasoned fighter like Dongbaek

You locked tf in on your final attempt and it was amazing to see you use a block skill on her evade, that's something the game does not teach people so it's a very unfair mechanic to include. A lot of people struggle with this fight for a good reason, there's a lot to try to understand/balance with team composition. Even as a day 1 player, anytime I encounter a gimmicky boss, I tend to lose a lot. However, now that you have a better grasp of game mechanics and understanding weaknesses, I think you'll have an easier time handling gimmicks. So i'm glad you made it past her and congratulations!

Speaking of team building I did notice you leveling Shi association Don which is one of my favorite IDs alongside the other two Shi IDs (Ishmael and Heathcliff) People keep slandering them for being quote on quote bad, yet with the proper team building, EGOs and their specific yet easy to get EGO gifts, these three can easily speedrun through Mirror dungeons like butter, more so than a large majority of established team comps

i recommended investing in a fluid sac or ebony stem. They'll definitely help boost ur account. Walpuris should be soon, there's a ton if good Ids and ego there so try n save
I did it last week. It took me 2 trys. I use a support for this fight (Priest Gregor level 50). Yi-sang (scholar) was MVP in this fight (he took only 9 damage and won the 1V1 by only using skill 1).
btw, I could teach you if you'd like. You do things like deactivating passives, reducing your sp gain and redirecting skills in a way that makes your sinners exposed to attacks or use defense skills when they shouldn't have. Since the game is not hard most of the time it's easy to stick to strategies that in reality are more detrimental than anything, and win based on luck and levels. If you want, I could give you a tip to easily fix the redirecting problem (it does require some remembering effort in your side too), the first two do require to relearn and understand how E.G.O resources and specific E.G.O work tho...

Good, so the tip is: the last skill you select is which is going to clash in the end. So after selecting all the skills, it's good practice to check them again and see if you're actually clashing with the correct skill and if not, reselect them. For example to you what happens it that if Rodion has 6 speed, Don has 4 and enemy 3, you select Rodion for a dominating clash, then Don for a dominating clash to the same enemy skill, and you totally forget you now have Rodion's skill available, so you end up using defense with slower characters and doing unopposed atacks with the actually strong skills
Welcome to the even seedier underbelly of the wings. Yes even the parts that arent their underbelly are seedy as hell. Also i want to add that reading more helps a lot with bosses. Also in harder fights the single best thing you can do is envisisoning how a turn is going to go before you actually start it. Do some math based on sanity for example and imagine the rolls (50%+ sanity modifier shifts between 5 and 95% and abnos and other enemies with no sanity meter are treated as if they have 0) and you can use ego to sidestep any clashes you deem risky (sanity is spent before attack so it wont affect clashing) also your last used ego determines your weaknesses to sin affinities with default being your zayin slot with the resistances changing right before the attack so you can use it to tank a big counter for example (*this will help massively in canto 5 so remember it*) Edit: about spicebush dongbaek, she achieved her own ego. A proof of unshakable belief and the pinnacle of strength in the city. Its different from the egos that lobcorp agents use and different from the ego the sinners use (the sinners get assistance from aomething called a psychoment that lets them manifest it for a short instance without all the prerequisites) Her version was somewhat unstable you can tell because it leaks and alters the outside but almost all of the big hitters in the city use their own ego for a big chunk of their power. Another fun fact the league of nine most likely had the smartest group of people in the citys history probably only rivaled by lobcorps founder A.
So the battles do turn into an almost a chess match where you have to see where the battle is going to go. There is a TON more strategy that goes into these fights, clearly! I really appreciate that advice and a bit more clarification on spice girl and the league of nine 😊
I think, that you use ego way too much, like, for me, it's just "oh shit, every clash is hopeless" button, until it has some powerful passive ability. Also, a lot of passives of your id's need ego resources to activate(not always impactful, but some of them can help). By the way, noticed that you call counter "defense", it doesn't give you any shield and work just like unopposed attack but you can change attack directions with it
Its been a while since the last reading comprehension test, but once you know what to do this boss is really easy. I like fighting her in mirror dungeon. Funny how the 2 IDs of her are so different in power and potential. That just shows that manifesting your own EGO will usually be stronger than something extracted from abnos. At least Dongbaek got the attention of [Redacted] or she would have turned into a pecca like Kromer. Those who played the other games know 😏

Wait until Canto 5, that will test the Team Building more, Canto 4 was more of reading, Canto 5 is more about the right team, you will know the part I mean when you get to it
Bosses in this game aren't like in normal RPGs, they're mostly puzzles. That said you can absolutely brute force them if you have a fully fledged team but no newbie has one, so uh, good luck with canto 5...

Honestly general rule of thumb in PM stories: Do not get attached to side characters they will typically die horribly Exhibit A: Yuri Exhibit B: Samjo Also Spicebush was Dongbaek's own EGO from herself, that she made because she did not give into despair in the end, staying steadfast at her own beliefs and faith in the end.
10:20 never take a warp train in the city. The horror. Unless you're buying a vip seat, then dont get on a warp train. As for why? Well, if you dont already have a W corp ID for anybof your sinners, then you'll find out later. Anyone who's played library or ruina in particular can especially tell you why to avoid warp trains.

I strongly recommend in the future difficult fights when you finish setting up your turn take a moment to look at what your skillbar says is going to be done and if you see something like an unopposed EGO or skill 2/3 think to yourself "that doesn't seem right" and evaluate the moves you're making.
Dongbaek fight in summary
-all of her attacks inflict blooming, even her evade which reuses itself every time it wins, so break her evade by either offset with a defensive dice or roll high enough to break it
-only clash the offensive attacks of Dongbaek whenever one of your sinners get stuck and have the rest free the trapped sinner
-Dongbaek has attacks that inflict bloom with attack weight, make sure to always win those clashes specifically for it is Ideal
-on scene transition, don't bother destroying the branches that don't have your sinners trapped. just focus on clashing with them or letting those that inflict only 1 bloom pass if you really needed a sinner on clash duty against Dongbaek or freeing a sinner. Because the branches usually on the 3rd scene after they spawn, will use a move that on clash lose will automatically destroy itself, and the clash is really weak so its much easier than having to destroy them yourself.
-use High rolling EGOs on her big AOE moves
-and finally on Duel, while it is generally recommended to have a high roller go through the Duel, I just like using Yi Sang and gamble the atk power up she gains to have even more power in nuking her after Duel.
on a side note: at the launch of the game, everyone basically got Blade Lineage Yi Sang for free but he was really bad, that is until Uptie 4 where he became useable and ramps up to being really good, I just like using Blade Lineage Yi Sang against Dongbaek not just because of the slash weakness, but also because BL Yi Sang's darker robes match with Dongbaeks white robes, and having a Katana on Duel is so peak, not to mention that Uptie 4 made BL Yi Sang a really good clasher. In short, it was just so thematically good...too bad he doesnt have an evade dice so i cant even do the dongbaek fight Solo, atleast Devyat Rodya has my back to do that run.
Fun fact, I actually managed to first try Dongbeak out of pure luck x3
I lost one clash (I think it was when you duelled her) and she made a powerful attack that killed my Ishmael (I think it was Reindeer), kept N corp Sinclair in the bush (so staggered), N corp Faust was panicing (at that time, I didn't have an E.G.O. outside her base one) and Sunshower Heathcliff was confused (so he wanted to attack an ally).
And the remaining 3, Yi Sang, Ryōshū and Hong Lu, were all corroded x3
Yi Sang with Dimension Shredder, Ryōshū with 4th Match Flame and Hong Lu with Pink Shoes. And somehow, if I remember correct, after she made another AoE and I was like "Welp, guess I have to redo the fight", the game decided I just won x3
To this day, I dunno what happened. She should have defeated me, but the game was like "Nope, you win"
But now, I always love to fight her in Mirror Dungeon. I love the music and she is one of my favorites.
I even make a Spicebush Dongbaek plush of her currently^^
Continuing my monologue bout EGO from last time, I will say that while it enables someone to immediately become a skilled user, one of the downsides of using an abnormalities EGO gear is that it also limits one’s potential power. If someone on the level of Virgilius were to use any of the EGO worn by the TLA, then they’d probably end up being weaker with it on than without it.
Compared to other singularity based weapons and armor, EGO isn’t actually that special. Even the ones drawn from the greatest abnormalities are only really comparable to weapons based on other singularities, like J corp’s locks making someone’s skin functionally invincible or a firehose of decay ampules the benefits of any abnormality’s EGO start falling off eventually. Of course, these downsides only apply to abnormality derived EGO.
As you got to see with Dongbaek, a person can manifest their own EGO if the circumstances are correct. I’ll get into what circumstances are required next vid to avoid making this comment to long.
In any case, a personal EGO is basically the weilder’s perfect armor or weapon, something that will always be a power multiplier for that person, perfectly suited to their specific style and skills. You can see that after manifesting her EGO Dongbaek was much stronger than she was when using the greatest weaponry and armor the TLA could get ther hands on, because nothing will really be better for you than your own EGO gear.
Also I don’t believe that Dongbaek’s EGO ever fully manifested. Considering the overall look of it, and other incidents involving manifested EGO we’ve seen in other project moon stuff, it seems Dongbaek’s EGO was only beginning to crystallize. It was still very much in a fragile state. But don’t worry, you’ll get to witness fully crystallized EGO soon enough.

What you fought is what is currently known as an Effloresced EGO. not an EGO granted by the power of an abnormality, not a half-formed shell of a personal EGO that can only be maintained for a moment with the Sinners' Base Zayin EGOs, and certainly not the tools and armor extracted from Abnormalities like they did back in Lobotomy Corporation. Effloresced EGO, otherwise known as Fully Manifested EGO, is the mind made manifest, your *own* ideals and ambitions turned into a weapon and armor personal to you, manifested into existance by remaining steadfast when challenged and backed into a corner mentally, remaining true to yourself and not letting any facade cloud your judgement. It is the magnum opus of power in The City, and one of the central throughlines of the Project Moon games. The finer details will be left anonymous until you find the right moments in the games to explain them, of course, but welcome to your first peek at what the strongest will be. Project Moon certainly made a showing with their first Effloresced EGO in Limbus as a powerful force, even in the hands of someone you wouldn't call a seasoned fighter like Dongbaek

You locked tf in on your final attempt and it was amazing to see you use a block skill on her evade, that's something the game does not teach people so it's a very unfair mechanic to include. A lot of people struggle with this fight for a good reason, there's a lot to try to understand/balance with team composition. Even as a day 1 player, anytime I encounter a gimmicky boss, I tend to lose a lot. However, now that you have a better grasp of game mechanics and understanding weaknesses, I think you'll have an easier time handling gimmicks. So i'm glad you made it past her and congratulations!

I did it last week. It took me 2 trys. I use a support for this fight (Priest Gregor level 50). Yi-sang (scholar) was MVP in this fight (he took only 9 damage and won the 1V1 by only using skill 1).

btw, I could teach you if you'd like. You do things like deactivating passives, reducing your sp gain and redirecting skills in a way that makes your sinners exposed to attacks or use defense skills when they shouldn't have. Since the game is not hard most of the time it's easy to stick to strategies that in reality are more detrimental than anything, and win based on luck and levels.
If you want, I could give you a tip to easily fix the redirecting problem (it does require some remembering effort in your side too), the first two do require to relearn and understand how E.G.O resources and specific E.G.O work tho...

Good, so the tip is: the last skill you select is which is going to clash in the end.
So after selecting all the skills, it's good practice to check them again and see if you're actually clashing with the correct skill and if not, reselect them.
For example to you what happens it that if Rodion has 6 speed, Don has 4 and enemy 3, you select Rodion for a dominating clash, then Don for a dominating clash to the same enemy skill, and you totally forget you now have Rodion's skill available, so you end up using defense with slower characters and doing unopposed atacks with the actually strong skills

Welcome to the even seedier underbelly of the wings. Yes even the parts that arent their underbelly are seedy as hell. Also i want to add that reading more helps a lot with bosses. Also in harder fights the single best thing you can do is envisisoning how a turn is going to go before you actually start it. Do some math based on sanity for example and imagine the rolls (50%+ sanity modifier shifts between 5 and 95% and abnos and other enemies with no sanity meter are treated as if they have 0) and you can use ego to sidestep any clashes you deem risky (sanity is spent before attack so it wont affect clashing) also your last used ego determines your weaknesses to sin affinities with default being your zayin slot with the resistances changing right before the attack so you can use it to tank a big counter for example (*this will help massively in canto 5 so remember it*)
Edit: about spicebush dongbaek, she achieved her own ego. A proof of unshakable belief and the pinnacle of strength in the city. Its different from the egos that lobcorp agents use and different from the ego the sinners use (the sinners get assistance from aomething called a psychoment that lets them manifest it for a short instance without all the prerequisites) Her version was somewhat unstable you can tell because it leaks and alters the outside but almost all of the big hitters in the city use their own ego for a big chunk of their power. Another fun fact the league of nine most likely had the smartest group of people in the citys history probably only rivaled by lobcorps founder A.
So the battles do turn into an almost a chess match where you have to see where the battle is going to go. There is a TON more strategy that goes into these fights, clearly! I really appreciate that advice and a bit more clarification on spice girl and the league of nine 😊
I think, that you use ego way too much, like, for me, it's just "oh shit, every clash is hopeless" button, until it has some powerful passive ability. Also, a lot of passives of your id's need ego resources to activate(not always impactful, but some of them can help). By the way, noticed that you call counter "defense", it doesn't give you any shield and work just like unopposed attack but you can change attack directions with it
