One thing about morissette is that she have lots of style that is way different than the original singer. She has her own style, unlike other's that is trying so hard to copy from the original singer.

This version of Mori is very hard to do- whistling directly followed by the runs. Holy shhhht! She is phenomenal!!! This is her 1st time singing this song and she did amaaaazing! If she sings this again, it will be way better for sure.

Well, those notes without belting are meant to be sang simple as the song requires hitting unexpected high notes coming from a low key tune, I only based on my ears after hearing the original singer 😁, though she can polish the riffs after the whistle, she made it a bit more complicated as she placed the riffs right after the whistle part- that affected the execution, but this is just her first cover and yet already amazing! she nailed it.
Arjay j There's something obvious people are missing. She's not singing with a live band, so once she executed the whistle, she had limited time to add the riffs because the music wasn't going to stop (like we see in old Mariah videos where she has a live band and can riff for 10 minutes if she wants, before bringing the band back in herself).

Red Blue I think she did fantastic here! I think she was honoring a request more than anything. I wrote upthread that I was in Highschool/ College when Mariah dtopped VOL I had the original cassette tape of her album and like others, played the heck out of it.lol Morissette did it justice, particularly the beautiful midbelts that sustain and open out. The tendency to beat the dead horse of only Mariah can do Mariah goes without saying. After a year of hearing hundreds of Morissette performances I feel confident in saying only Morissette can do Morissette. Someone pointed out Mariah was 20 when she was first performing VOL. I saw a video of Morissette at 18 performing Hiimig Handog Suite with full orchestra. I actually find both vocals to be equally impressive. I give credit to both.

I remember seeing this when it aired! I was in Highschool! Mariah is a few years older than me. I had this entire Freshman Album on Cassette tape and played it to death lol (I know what's a cassette. tape ? 😂) looking back I think Mori did this song justice! A live band is better as it definitely gives the singer more freedom. Mariah also performed "Vanishing" on that episode. THAT was a killer song, that really was underrated at the time because VOL was the smash single. Bring back 90s music!

That staccato whistle toward the end is a killer. Never heard anyone else do something like that (Yma Sumac, maybe).
Martin Labuson wow to both those links! Chante Moore was insane. The Morgan clip staccato part sounded like Mozarts "Queen of the Night"! For a minute I was confusing Chante with Shanice, who was also amazing vocalist!
