Thank you Nate! Just transitioned from years on Roll20 to Foundry for our new campaign. First session in two weeks. These guides couldn't have been better timed!
I definitely would like to request a version for players. (I have a feeling that is already in the works & your just asking for our thoughts just for comments, but I don't mind the interaction boosting).😂
I second the motion! It'd be really helpful for me to be able to go "here, watch this link before we Session 0" or something like that, and be confident that I'll not have to explain to people how to use Journals, etc.
Dude, this video is exactly what I was looking for. Last week I started watching a playlist of "beginner" videos and they were not only outdated, but so incredibly tedious and dry. This got right to the meat of it, and it was impressive that you kept my ADHD-ass focused for 20min. A Player version of this would be really helpful as I am going to start a campaign in a month or two but some players are really hesitant about using something other than Owlbear and Beyond.
Just diving into this program now...I know this is a good video because I learned a lot and I know that I have so, so much to learn. A player version of this video would be great to show to players when I actually am ready to DM lol. But thank you for doing this video!
I don't have a video on port forwarding, but Foundry has a great article on their website that works as a great tutorial. 😁 It's got good step-by-step instructions, and if that doesn't work, I know that there are some pretty good video tutorials here on RUclips.
I think I understand the issue with VTT that could really help it. They mix the basic/simple options too much with the complicated/excessive ones. The designers should make drop down boxes for complicated features and options and consolidate the simple ones. The clutter adds to the confusion.
I agree, it'd be nice if there was a settings lite version or something, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a mod out there that does something similar. But in contrast, I appreciate them giving us all of these features in one version and not splitting it up into Foundry FREE, Foundry+, or Foundry PREMIUM like so many other businesses would do if given a product like Foundry.
Pro tip. Take a breath between sentences and pause once ina was while so people can actually process what you are saying. Its not a race to speak as fast as you can :D
7:16 thats all good but where do you get the artwork from? I’ve searched all through the folders and there’s nothing. The system i’m using (old school essentials) has some icons relating to skills abilities and objects, claws potions etc. , but no character or monster tokens.
Where can I get that scene map? You said his name so fast I couldn't catch it. Perhaps links to art and map suppliers in the description, even if they cost money?
Battlemaps were made by Forgotten Adventures, except for the one I used for the grid alignment example which was made by Dice Grimorium. The animated forest scene was made by James' RPG Art. 🎨
I imported a scan of “the dungeon under the mountain”, lined up a square, got it to about the same size (as far as i could see) and it was fine for about five squares then the next one was a bit out, and it got progressively worse with each square until it lined up again 20 or so squares later. Is there anything that can be done about this?
So if you've activated/purchased a mod on your account, now you gotta launch Foundry, go to the mod section, search for the mod you just unlocked and download it. Then once you launch a game world, go to the mod manager in the settings tab to enable that mod by clicking the little empty box next to its name along with any other mod you want activated. Just remember to save your settings, and it will probably require a quick reload of your game world. 👍 Hope this helps!
Nice video, but even if wanna reduce duration, such speed without pause in speach is terrible 😢 And duration to read with manual pause and rewind is 2x the time. Then more noring than a nicer 30minutes video
OK, I'm a beginner but what's this Game System about? That wasn't explained?! I am starting from scratch. What does it mean and what is recommended?! TIA
With Tabletop RPG music, it's a mod that you can download for free. Once you download it, you'll need to enable it in "Manage Modules" in the settings tab, then go to the compendium tab and right click on the folder that says Tabletop RPG Music, then click "import all content". But if you want to make your own playlist with your own music, create a playlist, then click the + symbol next to the playlist's name. Hope this helps! 🧙♂️
I didn't slow it down, but I absolutely did a lot of rewinding. That being said, I'm super thankful for this video because some of the other ones out there are ridiculous

Me too

Genuinely if no one wants a player version then I won't make one, so these comments help me gauge how much interest there is. 😁

Add me to this chorus.

would love that too for my players

Thanks for the comprehensive summary! Will have to give it a go and see how it works!
Good overview. Thanks!
Happy to hear it was helpful! 😄
Great video and overview! Thanks for all the information. Have you covered setting up the port forwarding that you mentioned at the end of the video?

it would be lovely with a guide like this for players
The movement of tokens when you use the ctrl key is pretty cool to make sure they know
Best one mate, simple and useful
Thanks alot!! Great video
Thanks! 😁
You video helped a ton!
A module i would recommend for world creation is Forians copy environment. As well as having a settings world for modifying and testing the settings
Would love to see a Player Video for both 5e players and PF2e players. That would be really helpful. :)
Yay! He listened! The System works!
Thanks!
The system works! 😆
Great video, but u definitely won the most words per second competition.
😎🥇 Eminem's quaking in his boots.
Fantastic video!
Happy to hear you enjoyed it! 😁
I want both additional ones, ive been using it for a year and still learned something ;)
On it. 🫡
This is awesome! Would love a player version!!

I had to watch at 75% speed. It was going way too fast, but it’s still the best video I’ve found on how to use VTT, so big respect for that!
especially when switching topics, to lessen confusion
As I'm over here watching at 1.5x lol, but I watch most YT videos that fast.

11:35 "and even redo an action using good ole control z" xD
Where can I get that scene map?

If I set rolls to be private from GM, does that also make all rolls I do from monster and NPC sheets to be private?
So i purchased a module, activated it at the foundry website, now how do i get it in game?

@ thanks mate. I found it, took me three hours of searching. Theres more hidey holes in this thing than a kids playground.
What's the name of the mod that has an animated Target selection ring
It's called Monk's Combat Marker- it puts an animated picture (which can be customized) under the token whose turn it currently is.
@nattertot I actually have that already installed. I must be missing how to use it. Thanks I'll dig it up! I appreciate the info
Where do I find the map pictures ?
i think you can just find them on google and upload them yourself. or there might be some in the compendium
Player Version please. Hate to drop the burden on you but would be much easier to send players to your channel to learn.
I gotchu, it's already live! 😎 Hope it helps!

On the importing of music from tabletop or others.. you mention duplicate or import. I need to understand this better.
With Tabletop RPG music, it's a mod that you can download for free. Once you download it, you'll need to enable it in "Manage Modules" in the settings tab, then go to the compendium tab and right click on the folder that says Tabletop RPG Music, then click "import all content".

Anyone else have to watch this on 0.8x speed? My guy talks fast.
100% I mean I get he is trying to cram a ton in and not have a 2 hour video, but dang.
I didn't slow it down, but I absolutely did a lot of rewinding. That being said, I'm super thankful for this video because some of the other ones out there are ridiculous
Jesus Christ man, slow down.
