Awww, this charming, wholesome interaction makes me wish I had a great friend for decades, for whom I could have the great honor of illustrating the covers of their two religious books. The closest I've come is doodling on dust-jackets in the library of a lonely old pentecostal preacher who invited me home for tea and prayer after we met on the walking path last month.
Love this! Reminds me of one of the purposes of The Book of Mormon, as stated on the title page "...know the covenants of the Lord..." And where do we make most of our covenants; the temple.
Thank you. I have Dave's first book, I believe, and love how he opens my eyes to understand more deeply about the covenant path and where we find it in the scriptures. I have said for a long time that everything in the temple can be found in the scriptures. I feel validated.
Get the second book! It's even better and more dense with information. The very end he breaks down an Isaiah chapter and it blows my freaking tiny monkey mind.
Just finished watching and listening to this. It follows right along with the things I've been finding as I have studied Hebrew and the archaeology of the region. Great stuff!
I really appreciate how much content was covered in this presentation. I realize that it just touches the surface of things but I am excited for the homework!
I could sit and listen a thousand years to Daves ideas and understandings! Partly because I have had thoughts in me along the same lines in SOME places but where Dave goes just solidifies my confidence in what I feel the Lord taught me as well. I actually feel that, if we got together, (the right people) we could have some incredible breakthroughs of insights and understanding. Don't be afraid of the questions!
What outstanding content. It is crazy how much temple imagery is found in the Book of Mormon, I absolutely enjoyed your delivery and message. It is all deep, personal, pertinent, and insightful. awesome! Your last 10 minutes are exceptionally awesome.
The Nephites left evidence and clues about exactly what he’s talking about. Archaeologists and researchers are baffled by it and have tried for years to understand but they cannot. It all fits so very perfectly, and every single point was touched upon. They would not have simply allowed teachings of such monumental importance to be forgotten so they left us symbols of Earth, stone, and greenwood.
I like the discussion around "Give us this day our "Daily/Yahwey" bread. I like both translations. I like what Dave had to say about the Hebrew translation. But perhaps "daily" isn't wrong, but a second meaning. Remember that manna had to be gathered daily. Couldn't it be called "daily bread?"
You are amazing...just wanting to be aware of the meaning of the words you used, initiate and esoteric, I looked them up and my mind exploded with good things. I'm loving the BofM more and more and more.
Coming a little late to this episode, I was wondering when Dave was in the Provo 2nd ward. I was one of Hugh Nibley's home teachers in the later 1990's and could not remember bishop Butler. Anyway, great episode! I learned quite a bit.
One of my early thoughts after my husband passed when entering our closet was all the clothes that he no longer needed. I laughed a little given his propensity for collecting expensive golf shirts on sale and his massive collection of Jerry Garcia ties.
I'm new to your channel. I learned about David Butler through another pod cast so I clicked here. How do I access the notes you showed at the beginning of this video?
My study of late has led me to look for three characters: the prophet, priest, and king. (see Abraham 1:2 for a chiasmus-of-ideas on this.) Going through this, I see Moses in the first room, teaching how to be a prophet. Elijah in the second room teaching how to be a priest. Jesus in the third room, teaching how to be a king. I may be off and am definitely incomplete in this idea, but it continues to develop in my study. (On chiasmus in Joseph Smith's work: I have seen a few, but rarely in Joseph's use of language. Rather they appear to me in the underlying ideas.)
Great content With respect to Melchizedek, we know he was Shem, the son of Noah, and that Salem was an actual city which was translated like the city of Enoch. Jerusalem according to Hugh Nibley means "New Salem". Just an FYI kind of thing.
This is heresay so take it for what it is worth but around 1:50:00 you mention the fish. Someone related a story from a conference where an apostle described having a personal interaction with the savior where fish was provided
I knew I'd like this guy as soon as he said he'd take the calling and wouldn't teach from the manual! I've come to realize manuals, however good some parts may be, are not a sufficient substitute for the scriptures. They are the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture.
Ancient covenants were very serious and involved penalties for violating them. The parties "cut" a covenant. They would sacrifice an animal, cut it in half, walk through it, and essentially swear to each other they would fulfill the covenant agreement or agree that this would be done to them. Also, Joseph instructed Brigham to systematize the endowment. I don't know that there is a record of what was taught in the first endowments of this dispensation as given by Joseph, but I believe they were all day long. Brigham was very familiar with the doctrine and what Joseph taught.
2 Corinthians 11:4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we or an ANGEL from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
Oh I wish you would actually read it, or at least learn about how it was translated. Nobody could dictate an over 500 page book making it up on the spot, of such complexity and interweaving Biblical narratives. Joseph had several scribes who all said the same thing. He would dictate to them, they'd break for lunch, return, and he would never ask them to repeat the last sentence or something, he just kept right on translating for them to record. There were no notes. He was a 22 year old farm boy with 3 years of formal education, though he could have been the greatest genius in the world. This book isn't man-made. It's inspired and you have to decide if it's from God or the devil. Before you condemn it, please give it a chance. Every page testifies of Christ and teaches the reader the sacred truths to come closer to God.
Dave has been a great friend of mine for decades. I had the great honor of illustrating the covers of Dave's two religious books.
It's beautiful artwork Jeff.
Thank you.@@ScriptureNotes

I love your artwork brother. So stoked to see your third illustration for Dave on his upcoming book.
Thanks! If I could post images here I would put up a teaser cover. I'm loving the third book. I'm reading it right now.
Dave Butler, Mike Day etc.are helping so many saints prepare for Christ’s eminent return. Many thanks.
David Butler make the Book of Mormon understandable. It is full of temple references ... 🏀!
Love this! Reminds me of one of the purposes of The Book of Mormon, as stated on the title page "...know the covenants of the Lord..." And where do we make most of our covenants; the temple.
If not an ordinance, the sermon on the mount was certainly a temple prep course and recommend interview.😊

Nice job, Oak and Dave. Thank you for helping me to come closer to Yeshua.
Hey when are you gonna make more videos my guy? I've been subbed for a while and you haven't released anything in a looooong time
@@MichaelGMoney hey King! Very soon - I was busy with 2 jobs and a night class, but things have slowed down.
This was absolutely amazing!!! Thank you Dave Butler. Please keep teaching us
Just finished watching and listening to this. It follows right along with the things I've been finding as I have studied Hebrew and the archaeology of the region. Great stuff!
2nd time listening… and I need a 3rd listening. Thank you. Excellent
I have been looking forward to this webinar! I love Dave Butler, and have been meaning to buy his two awesome books for a couple of years.
I've spent quite a bit of time in just the first 10 pages. Exciting stuff.
I really appreciate how much content was covered in this presentation. I realize that it just touches the surface of things but I am excited for the homework!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Excellent! Just purchased Plain and Precious Things. (I’m also a huge fan of the Witchy novels…)
I just bought the first Witchy novel. I’m excited to see your recommendation here!

You really need to meet Bruce Porter, Dave.

Check out ScriptureNotes.com. :) It will transform the way you study. Check out the Google reviews.
Great presentation Dave!!
Have you been moved to study Parley P Pratt's understanding of The Eternal Spirit?

If I have to become a Dave-ite for us to get the rest of the BOM (maybe throw in the Lost Tribe record in, too), I'm willing to take one for the team!
LOL
Shalem king - peaceable king, - peaceable followers of Christ, - peacemakers needed…. Is our prophet asking us to ascend to terrestrial glory?
Bring him back!
I did! :) Watch these: ruclips.net/video/1BbS490F0dY/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/tpqChbnF5yY/видео.html

Well worth it.
Seeing The Lord of the Rings through the Hobits eyes .
I love that comment. :)
Where does one Buy Dave’s books? Thanks! Found it
Fine book stores everywhere. :) Including the large river that must not be named. ;) Start with Plain and Precious Things by D. John Butler.
Melchisedek is a type and shadow of Jesus. His name means King of Rightesousness.
Would to God there was no “get through this quickly,” but rather we heard all the tiny details verse for verse.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love it... I guess we're apostates together. 😅
If the tree in the temple is the divine presence the menorah etc. then I see the Christmas tree as a counterfeit
I see it more as a similar symbol.
Fish(es) as symbol= something hidden
" seek and ye shall find"=Christ/ the Truth
Also: True Wisdom / The Tree of Life

Mathew 5:33-37 just proves Brigham's temple endowment is total crap.

Key word: "other."
