  • Built on the shores of Lake Manitou in 1928, Danceland is famous for its "cushioned dance floor" suspended on a bed of horsehair. Return to the excitement of summer evenings of the 30's and 40's when young people packed the hall to dance to some of the best-known bands of the time. Explore the still popular Danceland of today and find out how it was saved from being moved to Alberta.

Born down the road in Watrous. Was always fascinated by Danceland as a kid as i was told it was only for grownups.
In 2015 I dug through the Watrous papers from 1921-1960s because of claims of who’d played there. Besides Don Messer, Wilf Carter played there too. And an all African-American jazz band from Chicago in the 1950s.

@@monicadzisiak7291 sadly no. All of those claims of famous musicians, including The Ink Spots, appear to be made up in order to sell the place

No more film tax credit...no more SCN...too bad. Documentary pieces like this are important to preserve the history of our province and its points of interest and interesting people. Love playing Danceland...so does Walter Ostanek.

WHAT ABOUT ED AUSTIN CABINS ??? My grandfather was located exactly right across the street from the Danceland. He was a pioneer, and owned 80 % of the real estate and cabins for rent, ON THE EAST END BEACH, AND HE MADE the EAST END MANITOU BEACH WHAT IS IS TODAY, AND THERE IS NO MENTION OF HIM, NO PHOTOS, and NO INFORMATION ANYWHERE ABOUT HIM.
You're all a bunch of fakers, never giving credit where credit it's due.
I grew up there, so I know what I'm talking about.
WHAT ABOUT MY GRANDFATHER ?? He, at the very least, deserves a mention.
