  • His name - and that of his family - have become synonymous with the evolution and journey of politics in Nigeria since independence and even before. Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, former governor of Enugu state, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and part of the Nwodo clan, considered to be one `of THE great political dynasties in Nigeria. And now, with the approach of the next presidential tussle in 2023, the family are setting their sights on bringing the presidency to the southeast, where they come from. And my guest today is at the forefront of leading that charge...Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo.
Dr #OkwesiliezeNwodo was interviewed by #CharlesAniagolu. Produced by #NissiGabriel.

As I watch this interview I am also reading the comments being made by individuals saying this whole Igbo presidency is nonsense and what the Igbo people want is disintegration of the failed state called Nigeria. I hope at the end of this interview Dr. Nwodo will take time to review the comments. Listening to Dr. Nwodo his idea of both political parties agreeing to pick an Igbo candidate to be voted for will be impossible. Dr. Nwodo lived in the United States and he knows that there is no affirmative action applied in politics otherwise the presidency would long have been a black person before President Obama. Looking at what transpired in the Nigerian elections in 2019 the PDP the party Dr. Nwodo belong to had 13 candidates in the primary with only one candidate from the South. No one stop the Igbos from producing a candidate even if that candidate did not stand a chance of winning. The election went on with an Igbo person who was openly rejected by his fellow men initially as the Vice President. The current administration of APC since they came to power has never worn any presidential election in the South East. This past outcome may pose a problem if the approach Dr. Nwodo has in mind is to be followed.Political parties produce candidates that can win. In fact an Igbo candidate in the person of Kingsley Moghalu ran for presidency regardless of what platform he ran on, all the South east should have voted for him if the desire to have an Igbo president was such a critical thing among the Igbos.
Yes, morally the Presidency should come from the South East in the next election, but how that is going to happen with two major parties competitng against each other is yet to be seen. The threat that, if an Igbo person is not picked as the president in 2023, the South East will join with Biafran agitators seems to be a threat with the rest part of the country which might not settle well with voters.. The rest of the country regardles of the political party morally supports the presidency to go to the the South East but not when at the same time you find a segment of the SouthEast bent on breaking away from Nigeria as the preferred option.. The northerners who also support the idea of the Presidency going to the South definetly will not support the disintegration of that region from Nigeria at the same time. The two desires cannot be going on at the same time.

Another great interview Charles. Thank you. Dr Nwodo just confirmed what we all know that restructuring is the key thing the country need not who’s the president. Yet people like Nwodo would like to take us into rabid hole of ethnicity. For a medical doctor who claimed to have traveled extensively talking crap about ethnic justice is telling and indicative of why we’re lagging behind other races. At a time to be talking about development, Nwodo is going around championing ethnic hegemony. A very bad representative of the people. The man should stop talking already. Anyone who claim to be loving his people should be talking about restructuring. Obasanjo was President but did nothing for his so called “people”. Jonathan was President but cannot provide water for his so called “people”. Buhari who is there is not doing much for his “people”. As we speak his state Katsina is being ransacked by bandits and unable to do anything about it. Very likely a president of another “people” would have stopped the carnage. If our enterprising Igbo brothers and sisters turns south east to Dubai today, Africans home and abroad will come to pay homage. Presidency will not bring prosperity but private capital and enterprising people with freedom will do great things. Let’s talk about restructuring and stop chasing shadows. I say let the north agree to restructuring and let them keep their presidency.

Igbos can never be president of Nigeria , these Igbo elites are living in self denial for fear of the emergence of Biafra. They is nothing good that can come out of a conquered people kept in the stranglehold of their conquerors, to keep a conquered people in control the conquerors MUST sow the seed of disunity and distrust within them, just like the Belgians did in Rwanda by establishing the Hutu and Tutsi tribes from same people. Belgians created two Rwandan tribes from one people based on skin colour and facial structure. Igbos are a conquered people within Nigeria and the Igbo elites are the willing tools and servants to the Fulani conquerors, they are afraid that they will lose their relevance or probably be killed when Biafra emerges hence they are frantically begging their Fulani masters to give them the Igbo presidency in 2023 to assuage Biafrans from their agitation but within the Igbo elites they is serious divisions among them, take for instance the distrust and disunity between the Igbos in the South South and South East, whilst some are calling for an Igbo president regardless from whether he or she is from South South, Middle belt or South East another group of Igbo elites are saying it must exclusively be from South East zone. Igbo presidency 2023 is dead on arrival.

Shocked at the comments I read here especially from Easterners about the Ibo presidency. Its either people are hard at comprehending or they are just on purpose being anti.
Decentralisation as he said is the best. In the event where this is not being done now, the only option is an Ibo presidency so that whoever becomes president from SE knows that he must walk the talk by decentralising power or restructuring Nigeria.
If nwodo says he is not interested in Ibo presidency and speaks restructuring like u folks here want from now till eternity nothing will come out of it. We've been talking restructuring for 20+ years has it happened?
