Dude I know the feeling. Lake Guntersville was tuff! It definitely wasn't ideal weather conditions but I definitely questioned my skills as an angler.

These fish story videos should be a regular episode. I grew up listening to fishing and hunting stories from my dad and uncles and I could listen to you guys for hours. Thanks for another great video!

My friend Gary Coates owned a house on Johnsons Pond, a small lake south of Raleigh NC. One day we were sitting in some deck chairs on his dock, doing some lazy crappie and bream fishing . Off to the right we heard some rustling and an angry squirrel chattering. We saw a large grey squirrel hanging on a low branch trying to reach a pecan on a large roch a couple feet from the store's edge. He was trying to bounce that branch down to grab the nut, but couldn't reach it. Finally, he jumped from the branch to the rock, and proceeded to eat that big ol pecan. Suddenly a 10-12 lb (at least that's what Gary and I decided it was) a 10-12 lb bass surged over that rock and ate up that dang squirrel! First stunned, we sat in silence, then it was whooping and hollering,,,good gosh, tell me you saw that!!!!
After a few minutes of high fives, and wtf's,, things kinda settled down. Then we heard some splashing over to the right again. And that big ol bass tailed his fat head up on that rock, and spit out a pecan on top of it.

I just want to say continue to enjoy yourselves and each others company like you are doing because life is short and unfortunately some day it will end. I started fishing national tournaments in 1984 and like you traveled with a group of friends and we competed and had a blast. Watching your videos reminds me of our great times, so thanks for that. We all had careers and could only fish when our schedules allowed. Most of my friends are gone now and I just fun fish, no tournaments. So like I said cherish your fun times now. I know you will. Rock on!! And good fishing to you all.

Love the stories, reminded me of my dad. 50+ years of fishing and he will beat me every time, Big old heavy Ugly Stick, Zebco 33 (the old good ones) and a weightless Creme earthworm colored worm. Love it Scott keep em coming!!
These videos are incredibly important to me as a new angler. I was not fortunate enough to have someone teach me how to fish growing up and am devouring content trying to learn! Hearing the story of Roland Martin out fishing you on old antiquated gear was phenomenal and I think a very good lesson for all. I would love to hear more of these fishing stories!

This is great. Story time is always fun to watch. Maybe you could do a whole video on growing up fishing with the icons we all look up to be. I can only imagine how Hilary feels with both her dad and grandpa are icons.

Saw Clay at a BFL regional years back. The tourny was supposed to be at Red River, but was flooded. The tourny was moved to Sam Rayburn. Waiting first morning for takeoff with my Co, there next to us was Clay on the front deck, moving to the drivers seat. They call his boat #. He takes off. If there is anything on this green earth that will humble you,,,, it is seeing Clay. My co and I looked at each other with tears in our eyes, he said "I'll never feel sorry for myself or say I can't do this or that ever again". Amen brother. Clay IS THE MAN.

Your story with your dad reminds me of my dad, back when I was a kid he fished tournaments, so I thought I'd take him out fishing, just like what you were saying I had the nice rods "best" baits and he brought a old ugly stick and a spinnerbait that was prob 15 years old, he tore up the bass I cought 1. A smooth reminder its truly the way you dangle.

story time, more is gud. dad martin, nothing wrong with a little old school from time to time. wen i was younger i fished with a vietnam vet and he loved spinning for tailor off the headlands and beach gutters(think u might call them blue fish). the thing is he lost his arm over there so he rigged himself up to cast and retrieve the spinners on his 12 foot rod and he was damn gud at it. loved him as my second father, RIP kev. cheers from australia.

Matt ain’t lyin!! I’m from Marion NC which is about 45 minutes from Shelby and we have Lake James and it can absolutely suck sometimes 😂 but to it’s credit it can produce some decent fish. Loved this vid!! 👍🏻

Arey is 100% on the lakes in NC. When I lived in Raleigh Falls and Sheron Harris were the two best lakes I had ever been on in NC.
