Keebie, you know me my heart is Hammond, and my back is tired from moving so many of them over so many years.. X5, M3, XB2, BV converted B3, Roland Rhodes VK-1000, the VR-760 and even the Korg BX3 got heavy in the end.. So the VR09 with the way it sounds and performs, is a great addition to anyone wanting a light tonewheel organ that can perform to where the audience can't differentiate it from a B3.. My vote goes to the VR-09 for the sheer convincibility factor.. Great playing keep up the videos...
Hello ! :-) I just came across your great channel (subscribed) the other day when i was searching for Roland VR-09 infos.I bought a used one recently (B-ver1.12). I like it. Your comparison between the 09 and the B3 is great ! I really like your playing style ! Fantastic good feel ! WoW ! The B3 is a killer with that leslie...so nice to listen to ! The 09 did a very good job with your playing ! Looking forward to follow your channel ! BR Totto (Norway)
Hey Keith thanks a ton doing this! I have vr09 and didn’t know how great it sounds through your Leslie-don’t have an answer for the volume pedal issue- looking forward to more vids from your music cave!
nice video bro! the vr 09 does the job very nicely... I play on Carnival cruise ships and as a standard all the ships has the vr 09 as an option. Of course we can bring and use our own.
Does that Roland Juno Gi ever get any time with the Leslie? Doing some keys in a blues and funk project and got one cheap. The organ sounds aren’t great, but curious if it’s something a Vent or Leslie could sort out. For the moment I’m using Hammond B3x and the Roland as a controller to get decent B3/Leslie sounds.
Great Idea! I'm gonna do that! All I got to do is remove the VR09 and pop that turkey in place. Thanks. Most likely I'll do that now. Thanks for watching.
Hi keith, I've had the VR 09 for about five years now and it's been a good Gigging board. I use. It on the top of my main board which is a Yamaha 9000pro which I've used and Gigged for 23 years since they came out. It's been an awesome board and still is. It's built like a brick outhouse and has certainly stood the test of time and still going strong. My VR 09 however I find a bit tricky at times especially with the volume and the difficulty in controlling it. Yes the Yamaha FC7 Swell pedal is one of the best and has lasted as long as the keyboard as they were bought together. What I will say is that you have to reverse the polarity for Roland and I believe Korg too. I use a 1/4 inch double Y le
YEAH! Whats up with the twitchy? I'm glad you said that! I was thinking maybe I was a bigger moron than I really am....lol! thanks for the info and Thanks for watching!
Cool! My friend is suppose to stop up today with his pedal for me to try. Bottom line, if I can't find the right pedal, then I'm gonna go with the Morley Alligator. It's really the best pedal, but more cables to hook up!
@@leapest I'm sure this is 'imaginatory' : the recommended Roland pedal is very likely a EV5. M-Audio EXP and EV5 have exactly the same circuitry, they behave identically. To solve the 'VR expression pedal issue' (it happens with any pedal), look at my comment to your "The Roland VR09...A Thumbs down" vid
There is a perfect solution! But it's my final solution due to the fact that I will have to hook up 2 cables. The final solution is the Morley Little Alligator volume pedal. It uses a photocell just like the Hammond organ does. Also works and feels just like a Hammond pedal. But you will have to hook up a in and out cable. A pain in the ass! But if I can't find the right pedal, that's what I will do. Thanks for watching.
@@leapest My keyboard expression pedal doesn't work with it and I'm confused menudiving the VR09. A good option would definitely be the type of volume pedal used by guitarists (and analog keyboard) that has input/output like a normal effect pedal. I agree it's a pain in the ass for a keyboard like the VR09 that shouldn't need external effects, but I'm used to that with combo organs/eps in my own setup that need effect pedals. Morley is a good brand, I may look into the model you referenced. there's somewhat cheaper options that would probably be alright too
The VR sounded really good. About the pedal, Ive heard that the Roland's didn't have a nice volume curve as good as MAudio/Akai's one (they seem to be the same in appearance. Guess they're made by the same manufacturer but sold in different brands only). I've got one of these MAudio's and it's been working fine. Got a Juno DS76
I agree on the MAudio volume pedal, I have one and it works great with the VR09.. I like that it is adjustable as far as the range of sweep goes, and it handles volume smoothly..
Great job playing and great man cave!! I just found you on RUclips last week. Your videos on the Numacompact 2x are what got me to buy one last week. It's a nice all around keyboard especially for the price, I like the action too. I also run mine through my Boss RT-20 and the organs sound pretty good, especially live. I was wondering what the organs sound like though a leslie and found this video. I sometimes play out with a Hammond B3 and Leslie 145. I haven't had a chance yet to try my numa though it as we also have a preamp pedal in storage that I have to get.
Thanks for watching. Hey, I have a video on the Numa playing thru a Leslie 145. Did you watch it? If not check it out. The Numa sounds better than the VR09.
Thanks for posting your videos, I enjoy watching them! I saw your other video also with your Numa though a leslie and your other video of you playing piano on the numa. I'm working my way though your videos, I just watched your newest video too. I also saw your video with the drummer loosing his temper, lol I have a video of me playing our B3 and leslie on my channel if you want to check it out sometime.
Hi again Keith, technology failed me as i was coming to the point regarding the BBC Ben volume pedal for the VR 09. I use a 1\4 inch double Y lead so that i can switch pedal polarity without rewiring the pot. Yamaha dont provide a switch like some pedals do. I am replacing the pot on a spare pedal that i have as its gone U S but they are a special fit and dont travel the full throw and they are a 50k rated. Consequently you cant change for another pot. I will say that the pedal on the Roland doesnt oprate as good as on the Yamaha. Ive tried 3 different pedals and the Roland doesnt like any of them. On the up side, you can set the yamaha to do wah wah or swell up or drop back pads or strings behind your main voice. They are avery versatile pedal and great for organ. By the way, with regard to a comment from one of your recent videos, All the VR Models run on batteries including the VR730. My VR isnt the B like yours but is updated to the same software version and the only difference i can see is cosmetic. I think they pepped up the look on the B models by way of the decals. I play in a 60's Band myself and enjoy it like you do. Im battling 2 cancers and still going strong at nearly 72. I was born in 1952 so I see where your coming from when you mention all the ailments Bud. Keep the vids going Keith, they are enjoyed by many. Wishing you all the Health & Happiness for 2024. Good wishes from Colin Hammond ( Hammond by name Hammond by nature🎹 )
Well Thank you bro! Sorry to hear about your health issues! I pray the God will help you on those. Thanks for the info. A while ago I had a Hammond XB2 organ and added the Morley Alligator Volume pedal to it! It was awesome! It used a photo cell like Hammond does. So if push comes to shove I will buy one of those again. Thats the best thing. But if I do that, that means I will have to run 2 cable for it (in & out). more crap to hook up! Thanks for watching
Well thank you. The roland VR09 has a better Leslie sim, But the Numa organ sounds a little better, but the leslie sim is not as good. So if you get the numa, then you will have to buy a Neo Vent, lester kay, or RT20 Boss pedal. Thanks for watching.
Roland EV-7 works very well. Good luck finding one, though. I got two…one for parts. The cheep-o Nectar seems to be a little better than the EV5, but still meh.
This keyboard is an odd bird! It has problems yet, it sound good and cool to use. Even though it has strange things with it. I will keep it in my herd. I love the synths on it! Thanks for watching.
the VR09 sounds good, though it's kind of weak compared to the B3, this sound has more body, fatter, if it allows the expression. If you would try the Mini Ventilator on the VR09, could replace the real Leslie.
I don't use a real Leslie out! Now I adjusted the leslie sim in the roland to the point it is quite good! I have a video on that. In my band it works, I dont use a lot of organ, mainly left hand stuff. Thanks for watching
Keith, I think you're right, the VR09 sounds very good, but it's light. The B3 is the mama, it has the heart and sounds so good.
Thanks brah , Thanks for watching
A -GREED! The VR can do nicely for portability and till ya gits the real, but the B3 got butt. Period. Nothing ever beats the real thing.

I miss the BX3, for how big it was, it was still light in weight! But was bulky! Thanks for watching Broham!
You are one funky individual Keith. Both sound good but the B3 is brighter and more personality to it.
Yeah! I agree! Plus you can't beat the touch and feel of the keyboard! Thanks for watching
It all sounds awesome to me . Love the funky grooves , great playing!
