i just love listening to brittany talking about stuff i have never even thought of being interested in, because she always makes me WANT to be interested in it.
i don’t know if you’ve read it already but if not, The Atlas Six is SUCH a great dark academia book. the premise is essentially that the Library of Alexandria didn’t actually get burned down/destroyed, and that it’s now a secret society. there’s DRAMA. i loved it so much
It’s more romantic when you realize it’s Clary’s birthday, not Jace’s (JCB), and Jace prepared a picnic for her in the rooftop garden/greenhouse specifically so they could be up there at midnight so he could show her these magical night-flowering plants 😭😭😭
After how much Brittany had been talking about ACOTAR/Throne of Glass I was thinking about getting into reading again especially fantasy/romance, but this video REALLY inspired me to go get those books and now I’ve read both of those series’ (like 13 books total), Fourth Wing, The Serpant and the Wings of Night, and Divine Rivals… in the span of 3 months😭 I’m so obsessed thank you Brittany.
oh my god you have no idea what you're missing out on by waiting on song of achilles and her follow up book, circe. the way circe encapsulates the immortal experience of what it is to be a woman was earth-rattling for me. to be mother, daughter, goddess, a powerless microorganism. let me tell you this it got some wheels turning. but you simply must read SOA first. it's so tender and beautiful. one of the best books I've ever read.
Girl did you know the Mortal Instruments series was originally a Harry Potter fanfic? It's Draco x Ginny, and from what I've heard Cassandra Claire was like an absolute menace in the forums
Girl yes I was looking for this comment. ALLEGEDLY she also wrote Ron x Ginny fics…which I think would explain the choice behind the twist in The Mortal Instruments.
If you haven’t read Where the Crawdads Sing yet, GIRL you have been missing 👏out👏 It is my singular favorite book ever written. It goes back and forth between two timelines that slowly intertwine. One is the coming-of-age origin story of this girl named Kya, who grows up isolated in the marshes of North Carolina. The only family and friends she’s ever truly known have been found in the nature around her. The other timeline is a mystery investigation into the death of someone named Chase Andrews. It is heartbreakingly beautiful. It expresses something so profoundly human and just organically universal, girl it’s SO good. I’ll never stop recommending to people, especially if you enjoy both academic mystery and coming-of-age/romance/etc. My first child will 100% be named Kya or Kyan lmao
