In this live-action adaptation of the beloved children's tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).

No worries!
41:52 Mr. Noodle just owned King Neptune.
The Santa the Grinch took a bite out of wasn't a cookie it was the cookie plate.
27:16 Fun fact: When Jim Carrey pulled the tablecloth, he was supposed to send everything scattering, but he accidentally did it perfectly the first time, so he improvised going back and pushing everything off. The director loved it so much and decided to keep it in there.
it wasnt just the first time, it was every single time he did it.
That was proven false by someone finding the original script, it was intended as that joke the entire time. For some reason a few media outlets made that story up a few years ago with no sources and then everyone propagated it.
Grinch: “I’m an idiot!”
Grinch Echo: “You’re an idiot!”
That is definitely one of the most laughable moments from this film for me.
Plus him pulling the table cloth off perfectly, he was supposed to make everything fall but he did it so perfectly that he improvised and just flipped everything.
@@kiaayo33That’s my funniest moment too (followed by him grabbing the yodeller right afterwards) as well as his big rant on the avarice. “THE AVARICE NEVER ENDS!! I want golf clubs! I want diamonds! I want a pony, so I can ride it twice, get bored and sell it to make GLUE!”
That whole monologue is hilarious
I thought of Johnny Bravo hearing the echo joke
15:47 if you notice in her hair, she’s wearing pieces of the angel the grinch made her
I've seen this movie so many times and never noticed that detail!
@@lizryan7451 Me neither
If you also notice when the mayor gave the grinch the same razor he used as a kid, she knew what it meant.
You know, there's a pretty dark theory about how the Grinch found Max.
The theory is Max is an abandoned Christmas pet some selfish who got bored with (we have lots of those sickos IRL who get cats and dogs for Christmas and then dump 'em cause they can't handle owning a pet).
But because Max is also a Christmas gift the Grinch isn't able to fully open his heart to him because Max is an unwilling reminder of what he hates: Christmas.
35:27 It actually was jim carrey impersonating Ron Howard and he actually liked it so left it in that scene
"Honey, OUR BABY'S HERE!...He looks just like your boss..." I didn't understand that joke until I was about 15-16 lol. 💜
How old was you when you realized why all of them were putting the keys in the fish bowl?
@Yugioh420 When I rewatched this movie earlier this year, so 24 lol
Same although I was a bit older when when I finally got the joke after rewatching the movie last year 🤣
@@Yugioh420it was after I watched a lvan Mars video
At first I thought that the joke was that the baby deliveries got mixed up, until I realized it was something more messier than that
This movie definitely got turned into a Christmas cult classic. Some people actually prefer the animated special with Boris Karloff, but a lot more are preferring this movie version, and I can see why. I feel like Jim Carrey had the most fun time playing The Grinch. He was just the perfect amount of wackiness for the role, I have a soft spot for it. 😅
I prefer this version just because of how realistic it looks and feels. It show why he hates Christmas and why he wants to ruin it for the whos. Jim Carrey did enjoy playing him, except for having to spend 10 hours getting into the makeup.
I think it’s my favorite though the original one is good as well
@@brianbenfield3270and the utter pain he felt while using the makeup that they hired a CIA or FBI person to help give advice to withstand the torture
I do like the animated version, but sometimes it irks me because every time I watch it, I always get the sensation that annoying little self righteous film critic in my head saying “prefer this, hate the live action”.
Jim actually hated being the grinch. He had more makeup than anybody in that movie. But he had a good time on set I bet.
Fun fact: According to Rick Baker, the prosthetic make-up that Jim Carrey wore took about two hours to apply and one hour to remove.
During the interview on The Graham Norton Show, Jim Carrey revealed that he felt so confined and uncomfortable in the latex skin that he sought counselling from a CIA agent who taught him torture-resistance techniques.
But he DID enjoyed playing The Grinch. He also said that he expressed interest to reprise his role again someday.
Well, nobody can play him better than him
Knew about the first 2 parts, not the last one, love to hear that. His role was so amazing here.
Heres a fun theory about the phone book,
When the Grinch goes through the names "alphabetically," he says "Loathe Entirely" to one specific name.
And the mayor's name just happens to be Augustus May Who. 😏
When Martha May's telling her side of the story, she has remnants of the Grinchs gift in her hair.
Ohmygosh, I never noticed that until now. That's actually very wholesome.
48:47 I knew when she was hesitating over the proposal that she did love the Grinch still
27:16, that wasn't scripted, everything was supposed to fall off the table, him coming back to push it off was just kept in, which makes it even better! 😂😂😂
47:43 I like how Martha is helping Betty and made a good compliment about her lights.
Same
By FAR, the best line, Male Who "Our baby's here!" ... "He looks like your boss!" MIC DROP!!
Fun Fact: The Grinch's smile is not makeup. Jim Carrey actually twisted his entire face out of shape to perfectly imitate the Grinch's iconic sinister grin.
12:25-12:38
His echo called him an idiot. That still gets me every time
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same
This movie is so funny. Jim Carrey as the Grinch was perfect. His smile at 2:07 was impressive. Cindy is so sweet and adorable
🎄🎄🎄🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣🤣
Sad to note: This film marks the final completed work for actor Josh Ryan Evans, who played the Kid Grinch as he died in 2002. He was 20 years old and had dwarfism. His portrayal is really touching when you think about how he was mocked so cruelly in his youth.
I love how Taylor Momsen went from being the adorable "Little Cindy Lou Who" to a top scream queen for a heavy metal band (The Pretty Reckless).
Fun Fact: The glass eating scene was indeed done with sugar glass, which means it was completely harmless and breaks down easily when wet.
she also went on to play the rebellious teenage daughter in gossip girl
Cindy is an example of how everyone should be
Like me!!!!😊😊😊😊
We can also thank Dr. Seuss for making such a kind girl
IKR I love her
One of the craziest and funniest Christmas movies. And you know it will be awesome when Jim Carrey plays Grinch🎄💚
I love the way Jim Carrey sang the iconic song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" while adding his own comedic elements to it like the hilarious sound effects. And his freak out when the sleigh takes off. "We're going to die!! We're going to die!! I'm going to throw up, and then I'm going to die!! Mommy, tell it to stop!!"
Also, I really love how the actress who played Cindy Lou, Taylor Momsen went on to be the front woman and lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless. Also, I can sympathize with The Grinch, having been a victim of bullying growing up. I know the feeling of not liking people because of it.
I love JIm in this, so perfect, it'd be CRIMINAL if his work went unnoticed.
@ItchyBurritoMiniAltThingy
It really would. The dude has amazing versatility as an actor. He could teach a master class in acting in any capacity.
The way he shouts “Your heart’s an empty hole.” Has lived rent free in my head ever since I was a kid.
@@wilesnailspower9781 For me, it's that, the way he plops the red-hot bolt into his mouth and uses himself as a crash test dummy. 😆😆🤣🤣
41:17 love that every time how the dad stood up for her
Same
Aww. In 39:30 Clarissa has empathy for everyone especially the Grinch for not being here for Christmas.
I have a Jim Carrey Grinch impression that’s sure to shock y’all. It’s one of my faves to watch during the holidays and makes me laugh so much. “ITS BECAUSE IM GREEN ISNT IT”
Even if I wanted to hear it, my SCHEDULE WOULDN’T ALLOW IT!!!
I didn’t hear that line until my recent rewatch. It made me laugh so hard.
I’ve done an impression of “Bleeding hearts of the world unite!”
Uh oh Somebody’s FABULOUS!
Fun fact: The table scene was not scripted! They wanted Jim Carrey to pull it off and have everything go flying off the table for a gag. But Carrey is such a master at it he kept doing it perfectly, so finally, he just went back and knocked everything off by hand, and that's the take they went with.
I’m glad he did because that was hilarious XD
God, this movie must have cost SO much to make. The prosthetics, the costumes, the settings, the props. All of it is practical
According to Google it cost 123 million to make. But made 345 million in the box office world wide.
One of my favorites to watch during the Holidays
And also The Grinch arrived home and see Max dancing the Christmas celebration and he grab him and throw him out of the house including his saying Wrong-O!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are you having a Jolly Jolly Christmas? The Grinch said it to Max.
Grinch: Taxi!
*Taxi drives away*
Grinch: It's because I'm green, isn't it?!
Me: 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂
Actually, he said “it’s because I’m weird, isn’t it?”
@@redalert923 no, he said Green
Jim Carrey's Grinch is my spirit animal & i can't get enough of him in this movie plus the actor who played the mayor of whoville in this movie went on to voice king Neptune in the first spongebob movie.
WOAH! I THOUGHT Neptune sounded familiar all this time! Thank you!
@@ItchyBurritoMiniAltThingy No probs fam your not the only one.
And a fun fact, martha may was wearing parts on the grinch's tree topper in her hair during cindy lou's interview
Jim Carrey did a great job as the Grinch.
Carrey I believe is referencing Ron Howard with the director bit, and it was actually improvised because the dog kept taking the nose off.
Ron's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard even makes a cameo as one of the teenagers the grinch scares at the beginning
6:52 Grinch: Max pick out a TimotheeReacts😂😂😂
Melissa Chase:🤬 WHAT DO YOU WANT!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love Jim Carrey as The Grinch!
27:21 fun fact that part was improvised.
Jim was suppose to pull everything of in one go, but because he did it so perfect, he went back, he went back to finish it. And I'm so happy he did cause it's hilarious
This type of scene is so... him
Even until today this movie teaches us that Cindy Lou Who is the epitome of courage and to see with eyes unclouded with hate. Plus, the true spirit of Christmas is not about what we receive, it's what lies within our hearts. 🥰
I also love the little detail when in the cheer mister scene he’s just come up on stage and he goes boo and the whole crowd step but Cindy Lou (who’s not stepped back) is looking back as if to say “what are you all doing?”
There were a few conditions for this popular Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into film. Theodore Geisel’s (aka Dr. Seuss) widow Audrey wouldn’t allow the film to be made unless they had an experienced filmmaker and actor in charge. Basically, no place for amateurs. 🤷♂️🤔 Same goes for the proceeds it makes at the box office. It would go to a charity of Seuss’ estate’s choosing.
Did she like it ?
Being born in 2000, this was not only the first Jim Carrey movie I've ever seen, but the first Christmas movie I've ever seen. 💜
Cindy Lou:"Santa, what's Christmas really about?"
Grinch:"VENGEANCE!"
XD
Fun fact: The scene where the Grinch was acting like a director was really just Jim Carrey having fun and playfully mocking the director of the movie. The director laughed so hard at seeing it that he had to keep it in.
This is my favourite Grinch movie and the one I grew up watching the most
Jim Carey was
absolutely phenomenal in this one like he brought the humour and the intensity and the uniques of the character and you know he made entertaining. Love the whole story in this one like it gave us a valid reason why he hated Christmas in the first place and I got so mad that he was laughed at by his classmates and especially his teacher but I'm happy that Martha always loved him and accepted for he is and I was so happy she got together with him at the end and left the Mayor all high and dry
Also I
love Cindy Lo she is so cute and smart and her
friendship is with The Grinch is so sweet and I loved that her Father stood up for her against the Mayor especially since I didn't like the Mayor at all. I Loved your reaction you guys to this classic and can't wait your next video 😁💚 ps: fun fact: Jim Carey
couldn't stand the costume that they had to get special operations to teach him how to handle the costume.
If you look closely, present-day Martha is weaving pieces of the angel into her hair. She really did love the gift Grinch made for her.
Oh and apparently Ron Howard adopted like six different rescue dogs from the animal shelters to play Max including a female dog
Oh I thought it was just one female
There's a very popular theory that his speech about all the Christmas presents he finds in the dump is also an explanation for how he got Max.
Just a little Christmas puppy that someone didn't bother taking back and just up and dumped.
12:21 probably the first person I saw compare the Grinch to Oscar the Grouch, im like FINALLY someone else sees it.
Who's Oscar the Grouch ?
34:31 i’ve always felt sad for Cindy Lou who for this scene because she’s the kind of girl who’s trying to make Christmas mean something and not for herself but for the Grinch and everyone in Whoville even her family.
Classic Christmas movie! Happy Holidays Tim and Clariss!!
The scene when the Grinch was a kid in school and all the kids in his class including the teacher laughed at him (except for Martha May), something pretty similar happened to me. When I was in year 5, everyone in my class (including myself) were on detention one lunchtime. During the detention, there was a very little drop of blood on my finger and looked at it and talked very silently, then about 2 minutes later I looked up and everyone in my class was just staring at me and I said "What?" and then everyone including the teacher laughed at me (except for the girl sitting right next to me) 😥.
33:49 favorite moment 😊
The Grinch wearing the director’s hat was absolutely a call out to Ron Howard, he himself apparently really loved the impression
Grinch deserved that victory dance at the end of the movie 😂
And I love that Anthony Hopkins narrates it.
14:37 Grinch: TimotheeReacts bye bye and no Golden Play Button😂😂😂
33:38
That part is as funny as the "You're an idiot" and the Table Cloth scene but it's as if Michael Bay was in charge of it!
27:21-27:25 their laugh!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My FAVORITE live action Christmas movie!!!
24:35 That scene makes me laugh hard
46:57 Narrator: “And then, the true meaning of Christmas came through,
47:06 And the Grinch found the strength of 10 grinches…plus Two!”
Best version of the Grinch Stole Christmas ever made, Jim Carrey absolutely killed this role, and it will likely never be topped.
12:38 Voice Echo: You're an TimotheeReacts😂😂😂
lol yes the grinch who stole Christmas 🎄❤️💚
The grinch crying definitely super funny 😁 in that scene
Taylor Momsen, who is Cindy Lou is actually a singer in real life of the rock band The Pretty Reckless. Total 180 from anything you thought you would ever know about her.
I love how they didn't have a child singer for cindy lou who. They used a normal little girl and it sounds just as good
She's currently a punk singer.
@benschultz1784 oh wow😲

The fact this company also made “The Cat In The Hat” is beyond me.
To be fair, Mike Myers was under contract and was doing everything to get out of it (which he did when the movie bombed).
@ yes it’s just universal and imagine entertainment were responsible for both films. That’s what I meant.
Oh yknow, Wirters...Directors...Movie FIlm stuff I don't get, I only like Cat in the Had IRONICALLY tbh, cuz it IS very funny for how weird it is. This Grinch movie is great though.
@@benschultz1784 Apparently, the movie was so bad that Audrey Geisel (Dr. Seuss's widow) refused to allow any more live-action adaptations of her husband's work. That's why Horton Hears A Who was animated.
Everything on the set had to be made from scratch. Ron Howard said they couldn’t just walk over and grab a tie for someone to wear they had to make a special tie. Jim Carrey impressed the widow of Dr Seuss when she met him to see if he was right for the role. He was on the set of Man on the Moon playing Andy Kaufman and had to play Andy Kaufman playing Jim Carrey playing the Grinch. When he does a movie he gets so immersed in character. 15:50 also if you look at her hair and look at the angel that he made for her she’s wearing the jewel in her hair that he used in the gift for her. 18:11 there’s a part in the movie where the mayor says that Cindy hasn’t grown into her nose yet. 22:54 Jim Carrey worked hard to keep the jokes age appropriate and Ron Howard removed most of the adult jokes except for the ones the studio forced him to keep in. 27:16 the dinner appointment and can’t cancel again was Jim Carrey improvising. The table joke all the items were supposed to fall when he grabbed cloth but he did it so perfect that he went back and messed it up. 33:44 that car was made practical and Jim Carrey had to drive it. 35:37 he’s pretending to be Ron Howard cause Howard one day got dressed up in the Grinch costume and spent the day directing in it since Jim Carrey had to go through the torture of the costume he figured he’d do it for a day. When Carrey first saw him on set he thought they hired a double that looked nothing like him and was mad so he did the Howard impersonation during one take and Howard liked it so they kept it in. 42:35 she took the shortcut for most of it by taking the trash route.
I love that the original was narrated by Boris Karloff and this one is narrated by Sir Anthony Hopkins. Two horror icons narrating a Christmas story lol
Also love that Cindy-Lou grew up to be the lead singer of a The Pretty Reckless lol
A great holiday classic indeed. Thanks, Tim, and a happy thursday to you as well. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
Fun fact:
"Where Are You Christmas?" was co-written and originally recorded by Mariah Carey. She wasn't able to release it due to her legal issues with Tommy Mottola (ex-husband). As a result, Faith Hill was allowed to re-record it.
This movie is such a guilty pleasure of mine
Still one of my favorites movies, Tim, and let me tell what was going on during this week, I was grounded from my phone for 6 days and I got it back for work hard in school today and I got here under 7 hours, keep up the good work Tim and have a merry Christmas.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Tim and Clariss, so happy to watch your reaction to how the Grinch stole Christmas. I watch your reaction on both of your channels at the same time.
Clariss, I felt your reaction emotions very much.❤ Tim, your reaction was the best with her too, and of course, the best part is the echo in the cave. You're an idiot.😂 Or it's gonna blow 😅🔥And yeah, it turns out the Grinch was alone on Christmas.
Max is a cute dog and Sydney is the best she never gave up on the Grinch or anyone. And who will.
I will watch your reaction to this movie for ever,
can't wait to see you react one other Christmas movie together. I should just Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie jingle all the way.
Currently working in retail lol... My managers are at least kind enough that we wait till the day after Thanksgiving to turn on the holiday station lol.
Tim & Clariss
I read that Jim Carrey is willing to a sequel to this classic, but there is one condition for his return as The Grinch. Condition is to use motion-capture technology on Jim. Because it takes hours to put makeup prosthetics on Jim in original way. With motion-capture, experts in software editing and special effects add all of Grinch digitally.
23:32 this part shows just how strong the grinch is
Martha is honestly my most favorite character along with the grinch, because before Cindy, she was the only one who didn’t care what the grinch looked like, she truly loves him even if he’s different than the other who’s.
And man, how I hate the mayor. He just couldn’t resist to humiliate the grinch in that festival, all he could’ve done was just finally see that having the grinch enjoy the festival really was a good idea. But no, he refused to accept the fact that he is the main reason why the grinch started to hate Christmas. He denies to see that he isn’t at fault. And yet right after the grinch got rightfully angry and destroyed the festival, he decided to freaking blame poor Cindy!! Blaming an innocent little girl who just wanted the grinch to be accepted! But no! He believes he is in the freaking right to still be a bully to the grinch and putting the blame on Cindy. It goes to show that some bullies never change for the better. Bullies like that mayor deserve nothing but karma.
The white tearing the shirt isn't an aliens reference. It's "A Streetcar Named Desire" reference.
This movie got me over my fear of the Grinch.
Also fun fact Jim Carrey pulled the table cloth off perfectly and had to improvise and knock off the items
I may have liked the animated version, but Jim Carrey as The Grinch made me love it even more as a kid 😊 I remember my Mom taking me to Magic Johnson Theater, just to see it when I was probably 5 years old.
Actually, The Grinch ripping the shirt open is meant as a reference and parody of Hulk Hogan, a WWF wrestler who used to rip apart the shirts he wore to show off his strenght.
On of the best grinch movies
ruclips.net/video/3w19SAl1OBQ/видео.htmlfeature=shared what move called, anyone else
I know people are kind of mixed on this movie, they either love or hate it but I personally love it for how chaotic and unhinged the humor is. Some of these jokes definitely went over my head as a kid.
14:20 that is definitely not a cookie 😂
Grinch's heart maybe too small, but it's STILL a heart!
What's worse , Betty Lou being Jealous is she actually won this year, and since the Mayor reads out the results every year how many times have Betty Lou actually won?
Right, you see her name on the card, but the Mayor wants to butter up Martha for his proposal, though considering how nice and friendly she is towards Betty, i doubt Martha would be cool with that if she'd known. (Goes to show how the Mayor isn't just willing to screw over the Grinch, he'll screw over anybody to get his way)
@rebajoe oh yea he was a bully as a child trying to push away anything that didn't bend knee to him and his wants, and becomes Mayor so he can simply take what he wants.
49:06 The Grinch really did get the last laugh
I love watching ur reactions guys I can’t watch full reactions but love this
They wouldn't have to sing too loud for the Grinch to hear them. Just loud enough for it to reach the dump it to crumpet pipe. Then the voices could travel down the pipe all the way to him. Like cans connected by string.
Yessir one of my favorite Christmas movies this and Elf
35:57 You’re right Clariss. That scene was actually Jim Carrey making fun of Ron Howard’s directing style. Hence the hat. Howard thought it was so funny and they kept it in
I can imagine myself as this version of the Grinch! 😀
40:01 That face and laugh always makes ME laugh 😂
2:22 fun fact there is a Grinch horror movie
