..Thank You for posting this- a bit forgotten - marvelous performance of the great French maestro Jean Martinon and his extraordinary sensitive ensemble. - "L´enfance du Christe" is the most lovery oratorio of Berlioz for its lyrical approach. - I like, Barte Bartmans, very much Your interessting advices to the work and the precise appearence of the partitura of this fine composition. - This is RUclips at its best.
Surely you have to put Hector Berlioz as one of the musical genius's. If only for the vision, the scope and the orchestration, which I believe was decades ahead of its time. I always liken Berlioz as a precursor to Mahler. I'm familiar with the even more gargantuan Requiem, which I attended a performance of. When the number of performers outnumbered the audience. This seems a much more intimate and sacred piece somehow. Great music, thanks for the upload..
“It is difficult to put into words what I suffered - the longing that seemed to be tearing my heart out by the roots, the dreadful sense of being alone in an empty universe, the agonies that thrilled through me as if the blood were running ice-cold in my veins, the disgust with living, the impossibility of dying. Shakespeare himself never described this torture; but he counts it, in Hamlet, among the terrible of all the evils of existence. I had stopped composing; my mind seemed to become feebler as my feelings grew more intense. I did nothing. One power was left me-to suffer.” ― Hector Berlioz
IMO one of the greatest composers of all time, absolutely unique and incredibly inventive. Only a few years separate Beethoven’s last works with the early works of Berlioz yet he inhabits a different musical world.

Thank you for once again for a beautiful work wherefore I had never the opportunity to hear it.
So many pieces I have never heard about before. I am starting to get excited with classical again like some 15 years ago.
Beautiful 💛💚💙

Today we may say, "Bach, Beethoven and Brahms", but originally it was, "Bach, Beethoven and Berlioz"!!
and you can find a very intimate Berlioz in "Les Nuits d'été"

The moment I heard the introduction I suspected this was not a recent recording such is the overall decline in singing now with too few exceptions.
