That contraption is a band director’s savior for stuck mouthpieces. I’ve used that thing 12 times as a student teacher.
I would've probably just let the instrument fall mouthpiece first to the floor since that seems to be the common practice with kids these days but I guess you took it to the next level. So thumbs up for that :D
My band teacher has one of those and it has saved me so many times
Po_F A Y T E_06 lol same here on my French horn, baritone, and trumpet
My band director calls them the jaws of life 😂
Sorry, tell me again what that device is you used to beat the mouthpiece into the bugle? Never seen one before 😂 😂 😂
i think its called a hammer but maybe youre better off asking a professional mouthpiece remover guy
kochi3 Aha thanks so much, didn't know such a thing existed, I wonder what else such an item could be used for
It's a Birmingham screwdriver.
First good-natured, non-vulgar joke I've seen on youtube all day, bravo!
IT'S A THUMB DETECTOR!
My high school band teacher/director has that tool and he has to use it pretty frequently and it's a great product
I was honestly just as surprised as you were when it actually worked.
Its amazing what screws can do this device could easily apply over 100 pounds of force.
Gucci mouthpiece remover: $2,000
That was actual surprise when the mouthpiece came out of the bugle after the hammer was taken to the mouthpiece.
you hurt my soul when you hit the mouthpiece with the hammer
AND this, which is a hammer...
I bought a similar one on Aliexpress, cost about $6. and worked first time on my friend's vintage/antique cornet. Never use a hammer or any other force, these tools are the ONLY way to get the job done effortlessly. Also, I love wingnuts, so it gets an extra 5 stars from me.
My band teacher has this tool. Removed a mouthpiece that had been stuck for a week. Good product.
Once had to use one of those in band when I dropped my trumpet. Didn’t know how to use it so I ended up pulling it out using the extra leverage. I wish I knew back then, because pulling out takes way too much effort XD.
So were you able to get the wooden mouthpiece out of that trombone behind you?
Perfect for band directors dealing with elementary school students or the intellectual equivalent!
If you ever get your hands on a cheap, say, flugelhorn mouthpieces, that might be really interesting.
Lol I thought you might hit the mouthpiece. With your hand like kids do but you hit it with a hammer 😂
Hey! Let's go hammer our mouthpiece into our trumpets and buy one of these! :D
When your mouthpiece is stuck, this type of device is the only answer... do not resort to pliers to attempt removal.
... don't ask.
Bob Rexford you did it. Didn't you?
.......... yeah. :-(
Bob Rexford sorry man
Long ago and far away... but an expensive repair.
(I do repair) *cringes*
This is a copy of the bobcat mouthpiece puller design. Best design in my opinion if you are only going to have one tool to do this job. Glad I have it from my instrument repair days now that my son is playing french horn in band.
Looks like a copy of the "Bobcat" mouthpiece puller, i have a bobcat puller and it works amazingly well on any instrument from Soprano cornet to BBb bass.
This looks like a great money saving alternative (My Bobcat cost £50 a few years ago), my only niggle is the small wings on the bolts you turn to pull the mp. It would be much easier if they where bigger. other than that it seems a decent enough tool that all band rooms should have access to :)
hydraulic press is more "professional"
Someone in your Salvation Army band is going to be very glad you own that. It may be years before that happens, but it will happen, and most likely more than once.
Is he a salvationist?
Warning: pullers do not work on a denis wick ultra due to its shortness.
How have you not seen these before?
I wish I had one of those when I removed the mouthpiece from my bugle which had been stuck in there for over 20 years.
Must now be a really discolored mouthpiece now
Finally! A new video!
Life hack for all y’all, if your mouthpiece is ever stuck, get ice cubes and let the ice cubes melt not fully but some and with a dry firm hand twist out. If it still doesn’t come out, then fine but a mouthpiece remover such as this one.
Can you state your opinion on strings like you did to woodwind
That is a VERY reasonable price for something that has several machined parts.
Won't it damage the instrument though?
I'm asking it because brass is so flimsy that sometimes I fear I might bend it with my hands.
JonatasMonte Ive seen it used before, it might leave a little scuff, but I doubt anything else
JonatasMonte the only part of the instrument it really touches is the end of the leadpipe, and only the side where the hole it, which probably gets hit a few times from putting a mouthpiece in anyway
JonatasMonte also, the pulling goes straight out, so the only way you're damaging the instrument is if you start stretching the leadpipe. If that's the case, that mouthpiece has become King Arthur's Sword, and you'll need a new instrument. Or just a professional, or something
Considering the tool works the way it does, one can see that remover both denting the mouthpiece and the lead pipe while you try to remove it. You get not much torque on the top with wing screws with wings that small.
It is good for getting mouthpieces out of really old beat up instruments. I brought my trombone from the 1960s to school to get the mouthpiece out a year or two ago. I wouldn't use it on a nice instrument, but it's great for old instruments or instruments in bad shape.
Nice reaction
I don't think there are many brass players who would fail to see the occasional need for a mouthpiece remover.
That's exactly the sort of MP remover that lived in my high school band room in the early 90s.
I like the intro what software you use it for and where can I get the song intro?
My band teacher has one that has like felt n stuff
Unfortunately, web site indicates they don't work for tubas.
My bd has some of those
Le freezer is your friend
My band teacher used one of these removers on another persons trumpet in my band, and it was so stuck it broke their lead pipe from the valves
Loooooooool
Doesn't sound like it was being used correctly. It's not supposed to clamp around the leadpipe, it's supposed to clamp around the mouthpiece tube and press on the end of the leadpipe. If it were going to damage the leadpipe it would be by denting the end of the leadpipe.
no it was on the mouthpiece just is was so stuck it started pulling off the leadpipe
imagine the merch website "$10 bugle with mouthpiece embedded"
One time some one got there trumpet mouthpiece stuck and I used my trombone mouthpiece to get it out... I'll allow you to figure out how.
Sean Bernard I don't get it
the trombone mouthpiece became a hammer
*oh no*
Someone decided to prank me by making the mouthpiece hard to get out, they did too well a job. A mouthpiece remover like the one in the video (Higher quality though) did not work. It had to be machine pulled out. This was on a euphonium.

This is not coming out
That was a sketchy product. Speaking of, can we get your opinion on lefreque sound bridges? Most reviews are by the pros who got sponsored, and seem really biased. I'd like your two cents. Thanks.
Unfortunately the cost of them makes that prohibitive :(
Hella kila intra
ah yes, every brass player's worst nightmare.
when u drop ur horn and mouth is stuck, but have no mouth peice remove: ok guys its scrap
Nice; )
That’s great
That's what SHE said.
