Congratulations Belinda Yeo for this superb presentation as a special tribute to the late JIMMY CHAN our Singapore's legendary pianist. I was introduced to Jimmy Chan by J K Lim of Concert Gang after watching his last few performances at the Atrium of Marina Mandarin Hotel before he retired. I was told by Maestro himself after our group dinner that he was the Resident Pianist of Mandarin Orchard for 20 years and another 23 years at Marina Mandarin Hotel.
I was very happy when Sandie invited me to join GIVJOY group to sing at the Old Folks Home at Marine Cresent. I felt greatly honored being accompanied by Jimmy Chan on the elders' favorite numbers like Guantanamera, El Condor Pasa and Spanish Eyes that he played on a Keyboard.
The happiest moments of my life in 2019 was to be invited by Audie Ng for the Silver Strings 55th anniversary celebration at the RELC Auditorium. I sang Summertime and What a Wonderful World with Eliza Goh accompanied by Maestro JIMMY CHAN. On April 2 this year I sang the Napolitan song O Sole Mio at the Birthday Party of Maestro at the Lions Recording Studio. I picked this song after knowing Maestro prefers, I sing Spanish or Italian songs since most people would do songs in English or Chinese. This party was probably the last occasion that Maestro played on a Grand Piano. At his funeral wake in August 2022, Ernesto Valerio on guitar and I did O Sole Mio as a last respect for Maestro Pianist JIMMY CHAN.

I adored his piano work, it was somewhat my introduction to Singapore as I quickly discovered a favorite spot at the former Marina Mandarin....and I remember I always tried to never miss hearing him there in the atrium lounge. His playing was a draw card to go there. A favorite was "if I was a rich man".

First of all, thank you very much Ms Belinda for this tribute. I have been listening to Jimmy Chan's piano music for decades and always thought that he is a Hong Kong pianist!😅. So very proud that's he's actually Singaporean. I had a couple of his CDs too. I very often hear his music (and Theresa Teng's songs) in restaurants serving Cantonese food and dimsum! And his music is the only kind that i can listen to while doing things that require the mind to work and yet not feel distracted; in fact calming! Amazing, we do learn something new every day! 🙏🏻

True legend, his name spread to even Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Even people who aren't into instrumentals know and listen to him.
