I'm here three years later, but I'm glad someone wrote this comment. I was thinking it'd be *insane* if a dev didn't surface that information anywhere in the game instead of an obscure text file.
Great tips! Some updates: There is now an in-mission unit (vessel) reference The WinMission modifiers etc define how much effect an individual win or loss has on the course of the whole campaign
@BILLBILLH - I totally agree with you, Not taking anything away from Waervyn's World, but Jive Turkey all the way, both game play and his tutorials too
Definitely more coming! Summer is super busy with work-trips unfortunately, so time is lacking a bit, but slowly but steadily I'll be making more tutorials :). I do have a let's play going on my other channel (Waervyn Plays) in case you are interested in those.
Another tip for new players, don't put a torpedo on circular search if you're in range of the activation point. I have almost sunk myself with a MK48 that I didn't have a wire on when it went active and it did it's helical search within 1KYD of where I thought the TGT was, and it did a 180, acquired me, and homed in. Was only some skillful driving and plenty of depth beneath the keel that I didn't eat the torp. Went from 400ft below to 980ft below before I arrested my descent, levelled off the boat and rigged for Ultra Quiet, leave a noisemaker every 200ft on my way down to distract the torp while it kept its helical search up. Ended up with it 250ft above me when it picked up the Sierra at 2900YD's and killed it with 30s left TTR. Tip 2: If you do have one of your own fish go rogue, have an exit plan in place BEFORE you launch the torp. Always plan for losing the wire, and always plan for it somehow homing on you. If you need to execute the plan, you'll be glad you had one in place.
by the way, if you want to cheat a bit, you can go into the vessels thingy and change it how you want pretty much. I made a los angeles with a top speed of 60 knots
Here's another tip: When I get a contact, I search on Wikipedia on my cellphone the class of the ship (i.e. Class Alligator) and that tells me the type of ship, if it's an amphibious landing ship, the type of sensors it has, etc. And that way I also can see pictures of it.
Skipjack sub is extremely noisy even in knot 5 and although its the fastest US sub available in the game but if enemy's sonar pick you up and they turn and sprint like hell and it hard to catch up them.
Tip 1 to play Cold Waters Joking a Navy's submarine service. Tip 2, watch this video. Tip 3, also watch Jive turkey. (Now known as Sub Brief) tip 4, watch Mighty Jinges on how not to play.
Man can you please tell me how do i use m16 torps. In the 3rd mission its really hard to not get sunk by those destroyers because to fire those you need to be above 100ft which is easily detectable.
Get Voice Attack its a cheap program that lets one voice command anything on the keyboard as in using all those annoying commands like popping a noisemaker or cutting wires even complex commands for longer evasion strategies with multiple noisemakers, Its worth the couple bucks and time to set-up.
I now have logged about 12 hours on this sim. And you know what? This is just like SFC! It's StarFleet Command but using subs instead of star ships. It is true.
I just got this game yesterday and this and I am confused on 2 things. Playing the '68 campaign I lined up a Mk37 in a Novembers baffles but as my torp closed to less than 1km while in their baffles they went full flank and started evasive maneuvers? Should not my torp have landed that hit (as was running passive in baffles). Also I noticed noise db values listed in the ship log book and the USN subs have them listed as well, how do these db value (for both the enemy and yours) relate to the info that is being shown on the signature tab screen?
SuperQBoi, it has been reported to Killerfish that none of the torps act correctly. They actually predict ahead of the target to meet it not chase. They said they'd eventually fix it as they were putting most effort into the Chiba patch.
The AI cheats. As soon as you have a torpedo actively searching for a target (even in passive seeker mode), the AI will know it is there and attempt to evade it, even if it is in their baffles.
cold waters seems like the best and only good submarine game BUT ITS WAYYYYY TO HARD you move one centimeter with your sub and a random invisible boat shoots you with a rocket thath drops a guided torpedo thath you cant escape i mean like like you cant play the game without cheats
The game takes cavitation levels as though all screws ingame are brand new thus at best value. Apparently the older they get or have lack of maintenance the depth it occurs gets shallower. Jive Turkey has said at start of a patrol the sub would test its cavitation speeds at different depths as it is so important not to.
7 years later this is still super helpful haha cheers!
In the ship selection screen, it does say how many wires a ship supports, along with top speed and sensors
Wires depend on how many tubes you have
@@chrisdelano2038 wrong!! some have 4 tubes and only 2 wires.
Not only that, but the Skipjack-class has 6 torpedo tubes and only 1 wire.

you always cover games others dont, you are my first stop for first try tips on a new game. keep up the good vids!.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words! :)
Great tips!
Some updates:

1 tip for new players- watch jive turkey
Actually this is the best tip.
@BILLBILLH - I totally agree with you, Not taking anything away from Waervyn's World, but Jive Turkey all the way, both game play and his tutorials too
i REALLY enjoy when jive talks about stuff that goes back when he served. in CW however he's a sloppy executor.
that channel has like 6 videos...
I have been playing Cold Water for a while, relatively successfully. But this video was still VERY helpful. Thank you
Kevin Gerhart glad it was helpful!
More Cold Waters please! It reminds me a lot of that very old "688 Attack Sub" game... Such good memories!
Definitely more coming! Summer is super busy with work-trips unfortunately, so time is lacking a bit, but slowly but steadily I'll be making more tutorials :).
I do have a let's play going on my other channel (Waervyn Plays) in case you are interested in those.
David Gil Navalón that was the first game that I bought for Sega Megadrive , great memory's .
...holy hell....that brings back memories 688. there was another game called Janes - fleet command that was a great game also
Just got this game 3 days ago... thanx for this... I'll watch more of your "STUFF" about this game..

Skillful 'driving' but you dont know how to use your own fucking torpedo.
A very good video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank You! Very Good Job! Excellent as always! Keep up the great work! Oohraah!!!!
in that file of the wires , you can change the vaues and have more wires. its a bassic in tweak games
by the way, if you want to cheat a bit, you can go into the vessels thingy and change it how you want pretty much. I made a los angeles with a top speed of 60 knots
That should make it easy to avoid torpedos! :)
Can u explain me step by step how to change that? I try and my game error
Here's another tip: When I get a contact, I search on Wikipedia on my cellphone the class of the ship (i.e. Class Alligator) and that tells me the type of ship, if it's an amphibious landing ship, the type of sensors it has, etc. And that way I also can see pictures of it.
In game, once a contact is designated there is a button in top right that brings up that info for you
In another video a guy was showing how to drop sono bouys from helicopters. How do I get into the cockpit of aircraft and control them??
Great video!
One point: Whales have Mk. 1 sonar...😁
You've probably forgotten about this game by now, but it's worth revisiting. I would live to see you try a playthrough with the skipjack :D
P,S, there has been a fair few quality of life updates in the last year and a half ;)
WyzDat not forgotten about it, just haven't really felt like making videos in the summer :) I'll be sure to check it out when I'm 'back in business'!
Thanks dude :)
Read the vessel descriptions. They tell you how many wires right on the specs.
Great tips and great game.
Thank you this is useful info
what is escape depth and test depth? i see those in the files but im not sure about them
" Im at 26-nice feet"
subbed
This is good.
Thanks, this really helps!
Can you change the number in the text file to 4 and make modify it?
cavitation: camtrails under water :P
What is a camtrail?
always good to know, thx (y) :)
Looks awesome game😎👍
Good video thanks!

What does "-" in this table mean? Same amount of wires as tubes?
Barcel no early version of those ships exist.
WOOOOOW! superb tips!!!!! now i play very better, thank you!!!! if u have other or guide, post it

I click 👍 and subbed 😁
as soon as I get into battle I get detected and sunk. Every time. No idea what I'm dong wrong.
Go quiet.

youtube: this is world of warship
SOI! Sensor Of Interest. Not SOL.
white stripes
Cavitation=boiling water
Hmmm... I think it's not entirely correct, but let's say it's the same sound of boiling water
Atlantic Fleetも楽しい

Go silent and stay deep. Try to predict the enemy’s movements.
Cavitation depth is definitely different on Russian subs.
Russian subs weren't in yet when I made the guide. I'll see if I can find some details in the files.

"That item does not exist. It may have been removed by the author."
Hmm, weird! What about now?
I want a Japanese version of this game.
Srsly i bought broken game in sytem files ?
If you've got to dig through the damned .ini files to get the info you need. The game designers failed at their job.
