    I'm almost 70 and still doing my own repairs when I can. Because of that I appreciate the plumber/mechanic who can solve the problems that I can't. I would of had water shut off with first bill! Then had the Culligan man bring bottled water and do laundry by hand. Thanks for helping.

    That old lady must have been so stressed out, getting $300 dollar water bills a month and then hearing the nightmare repair that she needed.

  • @kellerrobert80
    @kellerrobert80 8 лет назад +5

    We had a slab leak 6+ years ago so they shot epoxy at high-pressure inside the pipe, which sealed it. This avoids drywall repair and was 50% of the cost of a re-pipe. It's still holding.

    It sucks to get old.
    It gets harder and harder to do things.
    Especially keeping up with the upkeep of a house.
    All those copper lines buried under cement floors eventually give.

    • @JSLEnterprises
      @JSLEnterprises 3 года назад +3

      whoever ran that 10ft of pipe used the wrong type of copper line. That's not an old water meter either, and that cement fill isn't that old either. So whoever did the work most likely used 3/4" Type M instead of Type K.

    I can’t believe Massachusetts allows the meter to be below the floor....and right next to the sewer!! That’s crazy to me....I hate houses that have underground water inside the house.

    I am so against wiping my soldier joints I was taught to let it set up and not to Disturb it. I am fine with after it cools down wiping it with a wet rag then hitting it with sand cloth this has been the best way I have learned over the years. When you wipe a hot joint it can leak I have seen it.

    • @timhendley1950
      @timhendley1950 6 лет назад

      Frank Riddagh been wiping my joints for 30 years, no problems. 3 reasons why joints leak. It's not clean enough, there is water present, or you didn't have enough heat around the whole joint. Wiping does nothing but make the joint look neat.

    Had this happened at my old house only it was on a concrete slab. house didn't flood but kitchen floor was warm in one spot. they had to bypass the pipe by going up in the crawl space(the ones where you have to crawl on the rafters or fall through the ceiling) and run it down into the wall.

    Not that I will ever see replies (notify's are always shut off). I would imagine some good home owners insurance should help cover that repair. You did a great job on that repair to 'patch' things up. But the line going to the streets going to be in just as bad shape. I know that in some areas the water dept is responsible for everything TO the meter. The home owner everything AFTER the meter. Not sure in Mass how that works. Just think good insurance would help in this case. Just sayin'

    This fall my water meter blew out and started flooding gutter. The neighbor came over and also called the water company for me. 45 minutes later they came and put in a new meter. I managed to shut down the flow to a trickle but couldn't shut it off due to the shut off valve was recessed back against the concrete box. He said he'd be back on Wednesday to move the box over and true to his word he did. Here in Portland, OR. were going another blast of cold now. Stay warm....

    the city i work in would have a shit fit if they knew a potable water line was laying in the same ditch as a sanitary building drain line that. they want 12" vertical separation. nice work though..!

    • @stevenlavimoniere
      @stevenlavimoniere  10 лет назад +1

      well its and old house things happened like this back in the day.all i can do is the best i can .and move on to the next job

      i know how it is..

    • @plumbworker
      @plumbworker 10 лет назад +1

      if the city looked at the meter then they should have corrected that old lead service and got it away from the drain.. In san francisco the water dept is responsible for the service line up to the meter that they own.. you would think when they added that remote reader on her meter they would have flagged it..?

      the pipe was a mess no place to cut in new valve .i told he she need to have the yard dug up and run a new copper line in then i can install a new valve before the meter she is old and retiered/broke .its been 6 mounts and i am still not paid for the job i did already..sometimes you have to do what they can afford period

    • @stevenlavimoniere
