It's funny; those "unstoppable low kicks" actually kind of reflect a real historical shift in competitive martial arts. Traditional kick-boxing rules didn't allow for low-kicks, so when top kickboxers went to compete against Muay Thai fighters using Muay Thai rules, they were DECIMATED by low-kicks. Lawrence Kenshin has a great video on American kickboxing legend Rick Roofus getting his ass handed to him by Thai legend Changpuek Kiatsongrit. Despite having superior boxing and a wider repertoire of techniques, Roofus simply didn't know how to deal with heavy, relentless low-kicks and lost in dramatic fashion, changing the way he, his family, and possibly the world, approached sport fighting forever.
Today, knowing how to use and retaliate against low-kicks is mandatory for almost any real fighting competition, and Rick's younger brother, Duke Roofus, would go on to become both a famous fighter and coach, passing on a legacy of crushing low-kicks and checks to his many famous wards, including Anthony and Sergio Pettis, Tyrone Woodley, Ben Askren, and the greatest of them all, CM Punk (kappa).
In any case, never underestimate the power of the low-kick, whether it's cheesing the computer or destroying someone in real life.
Anthony Ha I might be the only dude here that appreciates that nugget of knowledge but thanks none the less
love thios post
Good post, man.
I learned a lot today.
"Sweep the leg" - Cobra Kai
Fighting Kazuya in Tekken 2 was one of my most iconic Gaming moments as a kid. That purple suit is sooo swag~
and that loading screeeen. He's staring into your soul as Emotionless Passion plays afterward. Oh..yeah.
101mrcrazyman exactly I always loved that first intro in tekken 2 when he's looking thew the glass touching the glass and Angel holding him
The Devil loading screen scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I'd have to look away from the screen every time I was about to fight him.
At the time it was pretty surprising seeing Kazuya become the villain in Tekken 2. I mean when I first played Tekken 1 I always thought that he was the true hero of the series. Then come the sequel and I threw me off big time.
Ya no one that is old enough to grow up with tekken says fucking swag.....
One of the best parts of Tekken 2?
The music.
Stephon Zeno I replayed Michelle's theme song so many times it's not even funny. 💯
Unfortunately, this was the only time Tekken characters had actual themes. I can imagine how awesome Michelle's theme would sound nowadays.
You could say that for most, if not all of the Tekken games, and I still would agree with you.
P.S., Tekken 3 had character themes, too. Where did you think Jin's theme came from?
Stephon Zeno agree especially Paul Phoenix's theme song (Imagine if Max cosplay as Paul)
Jun didn't die, that's Jin's thinking she is dead. Harada officially tweeted out multiple times that Jun is "missing". And no Jun is not Angel.
I like your videos, especially the Tekken 7 character confirmed ones those are really funny.
Toxic Cancer Thanks dude! ;)
JinKazshima i hope the meant unknown
Jun might be unknown
Unknown isn't canon
Michelle is the adoptive mother of Julia, Michelle is chinese-american, Julia's just american.
Nina and Anna are both assassins, Nina was sent to kill Kazuya in Tekken 1, Heihachi in 2, and was possesed by Ogre and sent to kill Jin in 3, Anna worked for Kazuya (Mishima Zaibatsu) in Tekken 2, in 3 she was originally supposed to have been killed by Ogre like the rest of the Tekken 2 sercret characters (Baek, Bruce, Ganryu and Lee)
who worked for the Mishima Zaibatsu at the time, but the story was scrapped.
Bryan Fury was formerly a corrupt cop (hence why his primary costume is SWAT like) in Hong Kong (born american, died at age 29), he was modified and revived by Dr. Abel, who he killed in Tekken 4.
Katsuhiro Harada was involved in both 1 and 2, he was just not the main producer,
and yeah, he did voice both Yoshimitsu (Tekken 1-3) and Law (Tekken 1-5),
and about the names of the women, Harada did say that, but I can't confirm that for sure lol.
Lord Raptor good info dump thanks
Thank you sire.
Lord Raptor Thank you so much for this. I swear, Max and co. literally knows nothing about the Tekken lore.
Lord Raptor Michelle is Chinese and half Native American. She did adopt Julia due to the bird mother leaving her in the middle of nowhere. Julia was kidnapped by Kazuya in between 3 and 4. According to the lore at least.
MegaMarcoX15 apparently lore is the most important part of fighting games.
Max not knowing Steve Fox was Nina's son is by far the funniest moment for me. 🤣😂🤣
If I remember correctly, Harada actually stated that Jun's official status is just missing, and it's just that Jin thinks she's dead.
Jun was originally dead but it got retconned due to her popularity. We still have yet to see her in a canonical game since tekken 2.
Ogre's "Tooth Fairy" begs to differ.
Here's to a Tekken 7 cameo?
Tsunami14 So does Baek's Hunting Hawk Kicks, but he's still alive.
Whoa! The very first game that introduced me to the Tekken franchise.
Andre Pendleton you poor soul
That's the same way I was introduced to the Tekken franchise,
I onced also played TTT1 and Tekken 5 many years ago
Andre Pendleton good ol' psx memories
my first tekken game was tekken 3. loved it. then I played 1 and 2. hated it lol. They were just out dated
that demo though.
You know, the thing I miss most about Tekken 2, is the sound Kazuya and Devil make when they do their throw. Like at 28:03. The sound is like "Yike! Twouargh!" And even though Kazuya retains that throw going forward through the games, he lacks that sound.
You are a being of true culture. This is indeed the best sound in the game. TWOUARGH!!
An iconic sound from my student years
Tekken 2 was my First Tekken game. Back then It scared the hell out of me that I barely played it. But years later getting this on my PS3. It's my favorite Tekken in terms of Story, Music, and Atmosphere.
Also I really hoping Jun at least shows up Tekken 7.
Same here.
SuperFusionAJ93 Thats interesting. Why were u scared of playing it? I remember feeling a similar way when fighting certain characters, like Kaz/Devil and especially Armor King because of the creepy ass background music in his stage. I'd pass the controller to my brother.
AbelFrost
Pretty much the same experience. though most of the time I watch my Brothers play it. the game scare me to the point I had a hard time trying to turn off the Playstation.
Tekken 2, back when the characters could "jump good".
LoneWolfX220 You earn a Samurai Jack reference!
They can fly!?
I miss that day.
Tony Davis FUCK!!! You said before me. Lol
SymnpleSatisfaction Better luck next time. ;)
It's so frustrating not being able to just step into the video and explain the lore.
Ikr? I want to so bad
I honestly think Kazuya and Jins Devil designs are so freaking good. T2 Devil is so simple and spooky looking. I remember seeing the Devil redesigns in the CG tekken movie and absolutely despising how fancy and over the top they are.
Julia is a second generation Chan
RandomBlackGamer Is that a Fire Emblem 4 reference
THE BACKFLIP KICK WAS THE SHIT IN EVERY 3D FIGHTING IN THE 90's!!!
This is THE game that got me in to fighting games.
The devil Kazuya screen jump scare, still frightens me.
REAPRinc Same here. It was one of the reasons I was scared of Tekken 2 when I was a kid. The jumpscare of Kazuya & Devil Kazuya which were the last two boss fights is creepy as hell. Still creeps me out now.
What Jumpscares? I didn't see any...
??? ??? He means the stage vs screens which have Kazuya & Devil Kazuya's faces on them.
Those loading screens are not jump scares lmfao
Yeah same. Those fucking eyes were just menacing
This is what got me into Tekken and it's thanks to a PS1 demo too. I never got the full version but I did rent it. Good times and plus, it even got my dad addicted to playing Tekken 2. That is something else. Plus the music was awesome as it was remixed. You do have access to the original music too. Good times. It's on PSN so it wouldn't hurt to get it.
In the ps1 you can select arcade ost or the remix ost.
My favorite Tekken in terms of presentation, the music and the story were just awesome. Though gameplay wise, of the PS1 games, Tekken 3 is my favorite.
Nina was impregnated with Steve before going into cryo sleep, she Steve is her legitimate child, she just doesn't like that idea since she was impregnated without her consent or her own knowledge at the time.
What's the deal with fighting games and rape?
@@aaron_aj_knight_95 What other example is there?
@@aaron_aj_knight_95 Thats all?
And I mean I could also ask whats with fighting games with gore or murder, but for some reason violence is fine but sex is wrong?
@@aaron_aj_knight_95 Even more reason to ask WHY rape is the thing singled out
Murder is also violence, but you and a lot don't cry about it, do you?
Fighting games are ALL ABOUT VIOLENCE, so what exactly is the point in the previous comment?
@@aaron_aj_knight_95 Yes, and the "Whats the deal with fighting games and rape" implies there's something you find wrong with rape being included, isn't it?
>When you notice a ten minute cut during the Kazuya fight...
Kaz was God Tier in this game. Devil?angel actually is lower tier than Kaz. Funny since he turns into Devil after defeat just to get rid of that neat 40% damage uppercut that is abusable.
I remember thinking to myself about this game, that graphics couldn't get much better, how naive I was.
I can't wait til they do Tekken 4, cuz I still have that awesome replay vid on my memory card of Lee vs. Combot during the arcade/story mode. It was hard as hell, but was SO satisfying when I won... also, the tekken force mode was my favorite thing to play in Tekken 4.
This game was a part of my childhood. Loved the arranged version of the soundtrack on PS1.
tekken 2 was great when it came out. I don't get bagging on it. those models looked great at the time.
Kazuya's mist step in Tekken 2 made you literally GOD
This was my game as a kid! Tekken 2 was the game that got into the whole series! I played as all the characters in Arcade Mode and unlocked the secret characters too, even the boxing Kangaroo and Dinosaur, Roger and Alex. Definitely had good memories playing this game. ^_^
Tekken 2 is where I got my start. The first time I saw Baek's 10-string, I was hooked.
T2 was my first Tekken game. I played Yoshi and Jack-2 the most. I'll miss when Jack was just a big guy and not some huge robot freak.
Wasn't he always just a big robot freak though?
Jack-2 felt like he had humanity to him. Modern Jacks look like big tight jawed weirdos with lines all over their bodies. They went full robot.
This was my first Tekken, absolutely adored this. I used to main Armour King and Kazuya/Devil.
Couple of things:
Jin was changed to Karate in T4 because Kazuya was in the same game, and their movesets would have been too similar.
Asuka is more Jun than Jin
Jun got killed by Ogre, then got her soul possessed by a fucking werewolf. Or something. That's how she became Unknown.
Angel is only there to be an alternate costume for Devil.
cyraxmaster23 Wrong about one thing, Jin grew a hatred so deep for his family on his father side between t3-4 that he denounced his bloodline and fighting style in favor of karate. Basically switching to karate in rebellion from relying on mishima style, his family martial art.
Nico Gaiden I'm aware of this, but I was talking more in relation to the game design side of things. Bamco switched Jin to Karate because of Kazuya being in the same game. They have a pretty similar movelist, after all.
cyraxmaster23 Not really when you factor in jin has a hybrid of kazama and mishima arts, counters, and parries. He controlled differently from kazuya outside signature mishima moves ewgf and demon kick.
Nico Gaiden I never said they were the same, but they're similar enough that it was probably one of the reasons, production-wise, that his moves changed.
Either way, they brought back Jin's style (with some adjustments) in T5 with Devil Jin so everyone wins in the end.
Jun hasn't canonically been confirmed dead. Harada said she was just missing. And for the tag unknown stuff your guess is as good as mine.
Steve :julia is the mother??
i facepalmed so hard..lmao
My very first Tekken game ❤ oh the memories...
THERE ARE NO RINGOUTS IN TEKKEN!
May I direct you to soul caliber
I played T1, but Tekken 2 was the one that made me a fan for life. Still one of my favorite OSTs ever.
i remember i went to my friends house for a sleepover and we stayed up till 4am playing this game. good times, man. i still hum the music.
Ah the memories, long days at the arcade. Once Bruce was time released it was a wrap.
Now this was were it will all started.
Love tekken 2 an 3
Used to play this all the time with my older sister back when I was young, such great memories ^^
I really love this series! My favorite fighting game series.
Anna and her Taj Mahal stage, damn that's so iconic.
How can she NOT be in T7, seriously ? --'
It's so painful hearing these guys talking about the lore lol.
the tekken legacy I asked for. YES!!!!!
Glad you're enjoying it as I am.
Tekken 2 is where I got my start with the series. I played 1 in arcades but didn't put any effort into it really. Heihachi, Lee, and Baek were my favourites.
And Jun. can't forget Jun :O
Well, this is the only *old* Tekken game that I have not played. Also, Jun is Asuka's aunt (from what I remember) which makes Jin her cousin. In this game Jun dies to Kazuya's devil mode and becomes angel (from what I remember), then, is defeated by Ogre and become his slave (Becomes "Unknown" in T Tag). After, Jin comes along for vengeance against Ogre. Heihachi tries to kill him. Jin unlocks Devil Jin (because of the mark on his arm). Heihachi leaves and Paul defeats Ogre... In Tekken 4 Steve finds out that Nina was his mom, but cryrogenically frozen. Bryan needs Boskinovich to save him from going out of date.... and that's all I remember for today.
Tekken 2 had my favorite music out of all the games.
This is so painful to watch! They are so terrible, why are they not good at 22 year old game gosh!!!
unrooolie Eyy you pulled through that input reading hell with nina so don't let those other dudes get to you kenny. Too bad eddy wasn't introduced in t2, it would have been a different story lol
Ignore the haters man.
And why do they keep saying that Nina's hair is coming from her lower back and she's furry?! *Intense sarcasm, I have nothing against you at all, Kenny T.*
Ehhh,I skipped to the end credits, because I knew this was gonna happen.
I'd rather stick to speedruns on Tekken games instead.(imaging Tekken 7 speedrun gameplays)
Yeah! Especially Kenny! I swear, that guy only knows how to spam X and O with Eddy!
(Just kidding Kenny, you're the man.)
This was the first PS one game I bought after renting games for months. I played the hell out of it too. Unfortunately I didn't have a memory card. This didn't stop me from unlocking characters over and over though.
Best select characters theme Ever... alongside 3rd strike 99'
One of my favorite Tekkens to be honest. One of my favorite rosters, mechanics are far from the best but it’s actually quite balanced for the moves it does have, plus the music and atmosphere is amazing while still having cool character endings.
Tekken 3 is probably the best Tekken game, but this one is my favorite because of it's amazing roster and music.
Jun and Julia should be in Tekken 7.
If we are getting a Tekken Legacy, please give us a KoF legacy?
i think my favorite part of tekken 2 was the hit sparks and the sound when you did a grab. so satisfying.
Love these Tekken vidz. Watching from the very 1st Tekken all the way to T7 and than it's the boss rage T7. Love your vidz Max. Very long time subscriber here
Tekken 3 is 19 years after Tekken 2. Michelle Chang is a Chinese immigrant who lived among Amerindian people and adopted Julia, giving her last (Chinese) name. Also, lots of fighting games have a blond female with a ponytail, skin-tight clothes, and lots of kicks/leg grabs.
Jun isn't Angel, but has that level of spirituality or some shit. She does, due to lore changes in Tekken Tag 2, become Unknown. It was said that it wasn't intentional for Unknown to be Jun, but people speculated because she always starts with Jun's fighting stance. I remember pushing in the right thumb stick to change her stances in Tekken Tag 1.
Dr. Boskonovich is handicapped. In Tekken 3, he couldn't stand, which make playing and fighting against him difficult as hell. He either crouched, or tried to enter a standing position depending on the moves he used and just fell over. There's a compilation of a player using him in the coolest ways possible too. I mean, he was considered broken, yet difficult to learn. He was one of the copy-cat fighting game tropes (minus being a boss).

can't wait for Tekken 3 for a one worded Reason
Gon
My first video game memory ever is my dad bringing this home with a new ps1 and playing it.
Jun early Asuka. T3 Jin takes both Jun and Kazuya's moves. T4 They gave all Kazuya's moves back to him and Gave Jin the Karate Style. And Asuka gets Most of jun's moves and a few new ones. Jun becomes Unknown
hours upon hours of just sitting there with my buddy trying to see who can do the most consecutive anna/nina/king combos/holds, my favorite being King's romero special. as good as 3 was, this is the one that holds the most nostalgia with me.
This is the first Tekken game I played. The music is awesome!
after all these years and many tekken games
tekken 2 still has the best soundtrack
"Do you know what she did when he finally saw her?"
My mind, immediately: D4?
Once you notice the tiny Law, You can't un-notice him
This was my first tekken and the first time I was told to get gud.
This series has a special place for me.
My first Tekken. Loved it
me and big brother used to play this every saturday at the arcade i miss those days
My first Tekken ! I stayed up all night playing this on my Playstation unlocking all the characters.
I and a friend saw this masterpiece in a store back in 1996 and it was all set to test and play. After playing the game, I wanted a PS1 immediately with Tekken 2, but didn’t get one until in 1997 and the store didn’t have any Tekken 2 left so me and my dad went with Tekken 1 instead then a couple months later I finally got the game I wanted which was Tekken 2 and played the crap out of it until Tekken 3 got released :P
This was one of my first games ever. Doing all of those combos was too much for my little mind. I'll never forget how much fun and how sad I was whenever I see Jun.
I pray to God that Nina has this dress again in Tekken 7 since they're bringing back a lot of classic costumes in that game. Even more reason to be hype for next Friday. ^_^
so many childhood memories with this game. Gosh, how time flies
that sound track...amazing!!!
I used to love Tekken to death, I've barely played it in a long time though. 3 and 5 are still my favorites.
I'm pretty sure there are no Ringouts in... well any Tekken game. Especially not in the first three. I have no idea where these guys get so much misinformation from. Gameplay-wise, I don't see why people are complaining. I had a very similar experience playing the previous games through T5, and didn't know how to cheese the computer either and never made it past the sub bosses... Considering they usually stick to 2d fighters, I didn't expect them to go do well at all.
Looking forward to seeing the rest! t3 up next! yay!
The Yellow is a sash. When she switches to the green outfit, it is gone.
I still remember playing the hell out of this game at my local Laundromat when I was 6 years old.
With respect, guys, as fighting game enthusiasts, you sure don't know much about Tekken lore. Also, sidesteps in Tekken 2 were kind of character specific. Kazuya had mist step which involved pressing toward and I believe Lei had something similar.
I love Tekken 2. My favourite Tekken. And I miss the middle-aged Heihachi design so much. It's so great.
Tekken 2's soundtrack is my favorite in all of video games.
Tekken 2 was basically Tekken 1 Remix. That said, it's one of my favorite fighting games.
The hate I used to get when I deliver King's 5 throw combo against my friends 😂
Tekken 3 had the Best Soundtrack!
Lee's T2 theme was amazing.
Lee Chaolan was a boss in this game. He still is! Kazuya was literally the Beast incarnate in this game. Jun's my waifu
Doctor Bosconovitch in Tekken Tag 2 is one of the few DLC characters that is completely original, he does not share moves with Alisa
What's with the music btw? Were you playing this with alternative music? I can remember that the music was different originally.
Jog Chaber They're playing the arcade version of Tekken 2 that you can play through Tekken 5. On the Tekken 5 menu you go to Arcade history & you can play the arcade ports of the first 3 Tekken games.
This is the first Tekken game I played. Tekken 3 is my favorite.
Anyone remember Big-Head mode? I think you held select when the round ended into the loading screen and it would make your characters head bigger. Do it 3 or 4 rounds in a row and it would be HUGE lol
Kazuya has turned into a capeless Dimitri from Darkstalkers
Tekken 2 is better than the first game
One of my fave tekkens overall.
Some of Jun's moves were transferred on to Jin. I think in the booklet (manual) for the game, Jin's style was a combination of Mishima Style Karate and Kazama Style Defense. It would seem that way, since you have Jun's b+1,3 and Kazuya's 1,1,2 and b+1+2.
Nina and Anna: I think both are half sisters. I think one works for Mishima-Zaibatsu and the other for G-Corp. Their martial arts are roughly the same style.
Bryan was developed by Dr Able. He has interactions with Dr B in the series. I believe Dr B developed the Jack series, but may be wrong.
You know Kazuya's theme is also in Tekken Force in Tekken 4 when you entering Kazuya's Stage.
PUCHOWN PUCHOWN PUCHOWN - Maximilian Dood 2017
king had the best outfit in this one.
"We're gunna need this for Tekken 7's big story mode" LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
In Tekken 3 Bryan is already a cyborg he died before the events of Tekken 3 even started….
so much nastalgia ,i love yoshimitsu in this game. nice playthrough guys
Seiichi Ishii was the designer for Virtua Fighter, Tekken 1 and 2 and both Tobal
