The reason he says Davis is because he was the player that made Barry Hearn and snooker what he/it is. But in the soap opera of snooker in the 1980s without Akex Higgins the snooker drama wouldn't have happened. It takes two to make a great story.
Comparing eras is tough. Alex Higgins, talent wise, if he were born in the 80s-90s would need his talent plus a level of discipline and dedication that is totally alien to him. Time travel Alex from say 1977 (the mid point between his two World titles) and put him on today's main tour I'd bet good money he wins less than 5 matches in the year. You can't jump up off your shot, and you can't even enjoy a beer while some Chinese teenager is clearing up.
Alex is in any top 5. That’s on his talent. This man was regularly pissed up or drugged up and never fulfilled his potential. Always played to the crowd. But without him would never have been the sport it is. More charisma than all of them combined.

Hendry did get the better of him more than once and won more in a shorter time frame
