450C John Deere dozer injection pump failure/temporary fix

- This old John Deere dozer has a failing injection pump. It is a Roosa master pump and I made a temporary fix to it by taking out a fitting that has a small clear glass ball in it. The carbon fiber gears in the pump are breaking down and the small pieces are getting caught in it. This causes a blockage to the fuel tank for the return flow. This causes the dozer to loose almost all power and idle irregular. Filmed September 6, 2021

Just cured mine thank you very much
Great to hear!
I've got a Deere 450 dozer 1970 model that was having fuel injector issues as you described. I searched RUclips and found your video. I had my guys go to the jobsite and do exactly what you did and it solved the problem for now. Once I finish this job and get it back to the shop, I'll get the fuel injector pump rebuilt. However, for now it is running great and spinning the tracks!
That’s great!! Glad it helped out. I’m still running mine that way but hopefully soon I’ll have it rebuilt.
We had ours rebuilt on a 74 backhoe and it didnt solve the problem.
Wow was this timely. Thanks
Ha Preston, nice video.wel the motor sounds good.you are the specialist.i wait for the next vidoeo.have a nice day en stay save.greetz:Peer. 30c here./87f.
Wow that’s pretty warm over there then!! Make sure you drink plenty of cold beer hahaha
CHANGE OUT THAT ALTERNATOR !!
It's a 22 Amp Motorola
A type 10 Delco Remy (GM) 65 Amp 2 wire fits right in and eliminates the external regulator and all those wires.
Check my channel for how to.
Dozing for Dummies
I just pulled the injector pump off our 60KW Onan generator at work a couple of weeks ago because it is leaking like a submarine with a screen door in it. It has an Allis-Chalmers straight 6 cylinder on it. We will have to have the pump rebuilt.
I bet that was a big ass engine. It’s not a cheap repair either
@@Paw95 Not really big, I bet they used it in some their farm tractors. Now, our 750KW generator has a V-12 Detroit with 4 turbos on it and it uses about 15 gallons of fuel an hour just idling. Holds 36 gallons of oil and about 50 gallons of anti-freeze. 1800 Horsepower, and over 4800 foot pounds of torque! It`s a monster!
I wish my td8 started that good. Mine has to have a little sniff to get going. Hope fix does you well.
With this dozer it will start at 40 and above without starting fluid. It doesn’t use oil either
This worked for about 15 min for me. The only way I could keep it running to park it was to unhook the line completely.
Hmm. Got something going on there for sure.
Is it ok to run it without the check valve.
@@AllanSmith859 Yes its ok. mine has been off for 3 years I think.
Hell ya brother.
Thanks!!

How long did that last?
Still running on the same pump actually.
Good deal ! I'm having issues with my 450c. It runs great for hour the losses loses power. I did what you did. Didn't help. I'm thinking the shut off selonid is going bad when it gets hot.
@@smity7096 mine did that also after I kept cleaning it. Run for awhile then get clogged up again and lose all power. Barely enough to keep it running. I’d definitely check the fuel system.
I checked return line. That ball value coming out of the pump. It was all clean. No nothing. I blew out lines and it wasn't anything I could find in them but fuel. I ordered a new shut off valve. I think that's my problem. I hope. If not I'll be sending my pump off to Diesel parts service to be rebuilt.
I HAVE. THE SEEN. PROBLEN. INJECTOR. PUMP. IN. 450 C
When it does that it really needs rebuilding. But it works this way also. Mine is still going.
