- Erik Marks is the director of product for permissionless innovation at MetaMask. MetaMask, the popular non-custodial wallet owned by Consensys, has been in the spotlight following the launch of Snaps on open beta. You can think of Snaps as plugins that allow developers to add new and different apps that we can use in MetaMask. One of the biggest implications of this is that Snaps will connect MetaMask to non-Ethereum chains, including Bitcoin and Solana. I am glad there is a auditing process. Will it be audited everytime the snap changes? I am thinking about past issues at npm packages where the owner of the package changed and the new owner was injecting malicious code, a good thing would also be to pre-screen with AI.
AB Testing part, it seems like he wants to personalize the apps, at component level, this kinda sounds like Linux where you have all power over your software (from code to settings), or even Java Spring, quite interesting and powerfull but also creates a lot of flavors and interoperability its more complex. Ok good food for tought

This space desperately needs some centralisation around trust and security. It's fine if the ultimate goal is to decentralise it but just build the app store we need Metamask!
Some decentraliation zealots will hate it.
99.9999% of users (and 100% of new users) will love it.
