Totally agree with you there. I like the song, but it doesn't match the dark tone of the anime. Imagine watching this before the (pause) FINAL TWO EPISODES!!!😧
The visuals complement the song. I really like how they choose to go outside the box, and put some effort into the opening. Instead of making a generic opening where the music they choose to play is depressing and dour.

Fits perfectly for guts imo. His character is all about having no idea which direction he wants to go in and trying to figure out what he wants from life. His dreams are never anything specific even after the eclipse. And I rather like the contrast between this and the rest of the show. It's kinda refreshing compared to the way most shows this dark have an over the top borderline cheesy death metal opening. And it's not even really mismatched; it's a perfect fit for the spaces in between the fights.

It's similar to Minor Threat, Fugazi, Jawbreaker, Government Issue and Rites of Spring if you like more music with this sound. The band here is called Penpal, I personally don't know the punk scene in Japan that well, but South Korea has a very strong hardcore scene check out the Geeks if you want to explore Asian punk.
Play this OST on the new opening and it hits the scene changes. to an extent, today's opening is longer. But 2016 Berserk' opening can't keep up with this opening, anyone know what that means?
I wouldn't say the anime was a "disgrace" to the manga. Its different but it wasn't bad. The creator of berserk approved of all the changes made for the anime
I watched the whole anime series and it's not bad. I always laugh when I hear the theme song because it is so bad. The out of tune guitar riff, the bad vocals, oh it is so bad XD. If you are a fan of Berserk I say stick to the manga or just skip the intro if you want to watch the anime.

I think that objectively, the song is bad. That guitar riff is definitely playing out of the key, the recording is lazy. I think they were going for a lazy sound though, which can make it subjectively good. lots of people like bad sounds. like bad recordings of drumsets in old hip hop
This fucking legendary anime is badass as fuck. the 2016 version was a worthless sack of shit. each episode was basically the same and it had pretty much none of the elements of the original berserk series aside from a big guy wielding a big sword. add this fact to a terribly random assortment of music, naked fairies and introductions for characters nobody gives a fuck about and you've got yourself a hot mess.
