You know what would be amazing?
If this was compatible with Tabletop Simulator. Then you could use your custom miniatures in, like, a round of virtual DnD, or as a player token in board games or something.
That'd be awesome! Would almost make this a must-buy for me!
Genius idea
As a model maker, the way he can use an airbrush for such minute details makes me jealous
as a person who makes and paints models the way he uses a airbrush causes me pain
I hope there's a feature to export the models and have them made in color in a 3D printer or something.

Not gonna lie - I wanted to see Claires reaction for seeing Jon "handling" the miniatures in game
If they add a model train to this then its gonna be game of the year for me.

@@ManyATrueNerd Yeah and Gundam plastic model kits(Gunpla), but I'm not sold at all on this unless, or until they add Zoids and specifically the High-end Master Model line of Zoids from Kotobukiya.
@@natsume-hime2473 I would imagine there are expensive licenses and permissions invlved.
@@5Andysalive I wouldn't expect the Zoids license to be all that expensive. Takara-Tomy has not been that good on utilizing the franchise, especially outside Japan.
As someone who loves warhammer at first I thought this has to be the best game ever. Then I realized it’s just trying to trick me into painting virtual miniatures instead of getting my actual models painted.
Right!! Video gaming has already reduced the attractiveness of the mini wargaming hobby in general, now a painting simulator will reduce the drive to actually buy and paint the minis themselves!! Damn you technology!!!! 😭
If you paint your virtual models then you just need a co-op or LAN system to setup a virtual board and problem solved. That’s thousands of dollars saved
Now you can have a pile of shame in both your shelves and your computer too!
I spent the last three days painting minis getting ready for a D&D campaign, I wish it was nearly this fast and easy IRL lol
Let me tell you if there was a fill tool in real life i would have all my models painted real fast
3d printer and colored filament is the closest thing to a real life fill tool.

The question is, why did I just watch someone paint a model figure for half an hour? The bigger question is, why is it only half an hour?

Only 10 minutes in but I would love to see this again on the channel, maybe as a chill livestream or maybe as a couple more one off videos. Either way seeing Jon all happy and painting models is a really good time.

I was literally painting a warhammer miniature when this popped up in my notifications box. Definitely up for seeing this again - the music also has a lo-fi vibe that I usually listen to when hobbying so it’s great as both a viewing and background experience.

@@allanthompson4397 my first ever warhammer, a Knight Crusader, showed up yesterday-andI looked at the sprues and now I’m *terrified* to start it.

of gray plastic.
Look up some videos on here on the assembly and painting process.
Often a larger model is better to paint when built as two or three smaller builds.
The penitent engine I painted as two parts for example. I also watched a video on a Paint process just so I knew some areas to look out for.
@@allanthompson4397 oh yeah im definitely doing painting in sub assemblies. I checked out a bunch of tutorials, and they all tried to do it minus only separating the armor plates, and 100% every video had the author saying “I should have painted it way more in way more sub assemblies” in the comments
@@okonkwojones I strongly suggest trying a dry fit of your model before you go full ham on biscuits with the sub assembly. I have much less hair than I used to because I painted bits that didnt actually show up on the finished product after it was assembled.

@@Ava-uq5dh It's fun and this video is a great reminder why! But it's so expensive a hobby that I feel this game is a nice starting place, too, to think about techniques and color. I'll probably play it thanks to Jon!
"Wuv.... Twue Wuv..." 😁 my uncle tried to hide how expensive Warhammer could be from his wife for years until one year she surprised him with a new edition core set for his birthday and he finally realized she WAS his soulmate. 😂
So this is just detailed Hero Forge. Neat.
Could have done with a wash on the skin to bring out the details. No idea if the game has it, but drybrushing or edge highlighting would have gone a long way too.
The game does have Both included in the game
lava does not have a polished surface because it is molten rock. it radiated light because of its heat so any "shininess" would be overwhelmed, and usualy any molten lava turns to a dark solid shortly after exposure to air. so its not a uniform surface
If only painting real models was this easy and with automatic layering... :)
If that were true, I'd already own a massive army painted and all. As it is, the painting (and lack of room to display) is preventing me from living in a cardboard box.

Also Jon: Completely ignores the idea of making it black like the armor, because you know...obsidian. So it's an axe LITERALLY made of lava.
As a mini painter I hate how easy this game makes it look. Also it drove me crazy how you forgot to paint the teeth and gums.
Look, all I'm saying is that this game let's me build basically Warhammer without paying the insane markup, pandemic tax, and import costs, so, you know, game of the damn century this is.
Already I can see this being a future Thursday livestream with the chat & Jon get into arguments over which warhammer item was the coolest.
And Jon calling Claire a monster because she's forgotten the exact colour he can't see xD
I feel like Jon would go Tau or Nid. Not sure why, just a feeling.

This game looks fantastic, great video. My OCD went off as I noticed the scales on his axe hand are a different color than the rest of them. I was waiting for Jon to see it but I forgot his perception is 1.
I'm so hyped for when Jon tackles Dragon Age 2 that i just checked my Notifications, saw MATN Logo + "Dragon", clicked on it without reading the title and then somehow was confused for 10 Seconds because i could have sworn i clicked on "Dragon Age 2".
Jon obviously did this on Purpose, if the next Upload has "Age" in the Title, it's settled!
That said, i love Model building since my Childhood, so this is gonna be good

I would love it if this could play digital table top games with your custom painted pieces but it is still pretty amazing in and of itself and the Pieces come out beautifully

You did a really nice job Jon, and the model turned out really well. Congrats on that. About the only suggestion I have for you is maybe using the drybrush to pop out some of the detail of his scales on his arms/face where you have it just that flat color.

I've recently begun doing Gundam model builds. Looking into painting and customizing soon. Super fun hobby. Can't wait to get deeper into it.
The frostpunk stuff is because there's a frostpunk boardgame Jon, with miniatures, which you can paint, one would assume the same ones that are in this game
It looked great. Not sure about the shield though lol

It always starts so tacky but Jon really pulls it together in the end each time. Golf claps all 'round.
Never knew this kind of game exist but thanks to Jon who took the time to plays games that is not mainstream.
This video about John painting models will be perfect for distracting me from the pile on unpainted models i need to paint.

I want Warhammer40k DLCs for this! As a Prototyping/Testing environment for Miniature Painting this could be really awesome and powerful.
This video made me put the game on my wish list. I got too much to play but it seems so relaxing. Maybe I'll get it when gaming is too frustrating,
But does the game let you screw up and accidentally damage the model pieces with the knife? That's the real test of quality!

This reminds me of when I built and painted model airplanes with starships then would hang them above my bed. 🛸

Jon reinforcing the over done fire based MC stereotype. They literally gave you a cool grass starter and you turned it into a fire dragon.
Jokes aside you actually made it look really cool and I really enjoyed both the video and the game.

28mm is the standard size mini for D&D medium sized creatures.
As someone who quit playing games and started painting 3D Models and Gunpla, I feel like this game is trying to tell me to play it.

Jon, thanks for playing a game where you just paint dragons instead of murdering them for a change.
I was with you until the shield, too many colors it breaks up the otherwise pretty slick design would do the shield face in all obsidian black with a bit of mirror-ish silver air brush followed by extreme polish.
This is the game to feed my older brothers mini painting obsession

Jon, you uh...you forgot to paint the inside of his mouth. You got his teeth but his tongue and throat is gray.
As someone that does model building, I got very worried when you started to file after applying the first basecoat.
No cooking for the anniversary of the channel this year, but instead jon trying to paint an army of Lizard men

That work space/basement was WAY too clean. Where is that box set that you bought because you thought you'd have time for it and then shoved in the corner collecting dust? You didnt have to push the bits from your previous project off your painting surface once! Also, no brush licking mechanic to keep the bristles pointed and your details sharp. Other than that, pretty fun looking simulation ;)
Now you have to do a livestream where you try to replicate this paint job on a real model.
Cool program, really not my thing but cool. Man though a thing that would be really cool is if you could export your painted models into like tabletop simulator.

I don’t really play computer games because I only have laptops and prefer to play on consoles…. But boy would this save a lot of money and space than building actual kits…
