Maybe people who don't go beyond the personality teachings Russ, haven't had the experience that live trainings/workshops/retreats bring? My relationship with the enneagram was fairly superficial until I attended one of your workshops in 2010 (snowy Copenhagen and you had a bad cold). I came away in a state of deep presence, which was for me, extraordinary. That started my deep dive into inner work, integrating very many different suffering parts of myself. Without that experience, I can't imagine how I would've moved beyond a superficial relationship with the enneagram. I enjoyed the discussion around 'discernment' and find this coming up for me recently. For me, it's a case of 'If I don't follow this path (that I've been drawn to for years) is this a sign of strength (finally realising this path isn't for me and being able to let go) or, if I finally push through the resistance, I've perhaps had and begin to walk that path, is that the sign of strength?' Which choice would potentially be from essence and which from ego? Regarding some people being on the path of awakening and others not, I think perhaps we underestimate how our self, gradually vibrating higher as we do the work, has a positive impact on those around us. My husband isn't at all interested in studying the enneagram and yet our relationship has benefitted massively by my interest and immersion in it. So, there's some comfort to be had in knowing that our psychospiritual endeavours do ripple out.
Thank you for your comment! The Enneagram goes as deep as you want it to go. Most people who know about the Enneagram know it as a way to describe personalities. What most people don't know is that the symbol lays out the path of each Enneagram type for inner work and true transformation. And like you said, when you do the work, it can improve both personal and professional relationships. Participating in live retreats and workshops can help people in ways they can't imagine.
