      The Z is a grand tourer compared to the gr86. The 85 is a far more "true" sports car in terms of weight, center of gravity, chassis rigidity etc. The Z is absolutely better when it comes to highway pulls so if that's your thing than ya definitely go for the Z.

    I'm Intrigued by these, I'm probably going to go test drive one, but I already own a current Miata Rf as my daily driver, which does everything these do and gets 10 mpg better mileage. The biggest benefit of this being when I go autocrossing I wouldn't have to drive on my race tires too and from the event, as the gr86 has room to throw them in the back. Well, maybe someone at my autocross club is going to pick one up and then I'll see if they will let me take it for a spin.

      Shame they didn't get the stick for their test of the 86, but I've watched a few and it sounds like it is quicker than my miata, I just want to see if it translates to autox times. Also it is fun to see them slide the car all over the place in video as they got the base model which doesn't have the summer tires.

If they can resurrect the Supra nameplate on a BMW, then it's not a stretch to see Celica on the GR 86, or the 86 before. I've never owned a Bimmer though I almost bought a 335i coupe back in 2007. Unfortunately no manual was available and i didn't have time to order one. Friends have had them and they have earned a reputation for falling apart after the warranty expires - though one has a '95 540i that she refuses to part with and still going after 280000 miles. It's still too small and under-powered and a non-starter without either AWD or a larger engine as options. It appears they are catering to a crowd that prefers to buy used, which is a bad business model. Acura did the same with the Integra and how did that work out for them? I've bought quite a few Subarus brand new and always go with the most powerful engine, and almost every option. In other words, I am who they should be catering to and they simply aren't anymore. They haven't since they discontinued the Forester XT. In addition to the XT, they discontinued my SVX and WRX five door. They now have nothing in the lineup that is even remotely interesting to me. My Forester XT currently has just under 65k miles and will most likely be replaced with something Korean. They still care about performance instead of sticking their fingers in their ears after a decade of hearing the same thing. MORE POWER

    • @marvinmurakami8828
      @marvinmurakami8828 2 года назад +3

      Though rated at 228 hp, dyno tested cars by owners reveal this car is actually putting out over 250 hp. That's plenty hp for most people and also considering the light weight of the car. Any more power (300+) would put the price out of the range of its targeted buyers and too close to the new base Nissan Z.
      Motorweek acceleration runs are much slower than what car magazines achieve. They are timing it closer to the mid 5 second range. I believe because they don't rev the engine and dump the clutch.
      There's also a saying that it's a lot more fun driving a slower car fast than it is driving a faster car slow.

      Obviously you don't autocross or hit the track enough to enjoy lightweight, naturally aspirated cars. Old NA, RWD cars are appreciating at an insane rate since with the oncoming push of EV's, people have been realizing how special they are. If you want an awd turbo, go spend $50k on an Audi.

    • @Noah_E
      @Noah_E 2 года назад

      @@nateTrh You guys sound like people defending horses when automobiles first came out. If you want it to be around for a third generation Subaru needs to get honest about why it doesn’t sell and correct them. You’re stubbornly advocating for its extinction. 1) It’s too small and impractical. Keeping the same style but 2% longer with almost all of that extra 3.4 inches going to rear passenger leg room so actual humans with legs could use them would correct that. 2) It’s under-powered. The FA24 engine WITH the turbo would correct that and improve the power to weight ratio. 3) It’s a one trick pony. Offering AWD would make it a much better all-around package. 4) It doesn’t offer good bang for the buck. Doing any other the first three would correct that, OR make it cheaper. If it is sold with the assumption that you will “Build it yourself,” like many claim, it should be priced accordingly. Otherwise a WRX is a better option which is why they've sold 8 to 1 since 2015. Subaru even failed to produce a compelling BEV. The Solterra is slower and has worse range than AWD EV6, ID.4, Ioniq 5 and Mach-E. I like Subaru, but they have got to do better.

    • @nateTrh
      @nateTrh 2 года назад

      @@Noah_E For starters, you have to understand how economics work in the car industry. Companies don't invest in sports cars anymore because their platforms are one offs that don't sell well. The Miata by your book has always been underpowered, slow, and has no utility yet its the best selling sports car ever. All the other Subarus and and the Hyundais you talk about are just hopped up economy cars with garbage suspension geometry for real racing. Again, the car isn't for you because you obviously don't autocross or track your cars to enjoy something like it to the fullest extent. I'm not saying that modern cars that are super fast and spacious arn't nice, they're great dailys and I'd love to commute everyday in something like an M3 or S4. The reason I own an S2000 though is because older cars feel more connected and raw and give you a driving experience that isn't numb and neutered like 90% of modern cars. If you want a WRX, then get a WRX. The 86/BRZ serves a different market and isn't meant for you.

    Like this car a lot. But its not really all that cheap.
    For only 1 or 2 grand more I can get a base 370Z. The outgoing Z model is TONS more sports car, gobs more power, bigger wheels, brakes, better seats, more body bracing, just in entirely different class.
