One more point: The 24 men who journeyed to the Moon have a perspective on humanity that no one else in our history can share.
That demands respect, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs.

Cernan was a modern day stoic philosopher. Every damn one of those astronauts are philosopher kings. In the Shadow of the Moon remains the best documentary ever on the subject of Apollo.

One of the most beautiful thoughts I've heard from these men.

You’re standing atop a hill on the moon. You look out and see the edge of the lunar surface, and earth is just hanging there, suspended in the black of space. Everything you've ever known is just a tiny spec, that you can literally cover up behind your thumb. Beyond that, the sun and the eternity of space for as far as your eyes can see. You have to realize just how alone, small and insignificant you are. I don’t think any of us shouldn't begrudge these men their honest feelings.

@kisakk That's actually the only God talk in the whole film! It's not religious at all.

@ndgreenaway obviously not silly enough for the astronauts to openly speak about it. I think it is interesting they all shared somewhat of a common outlook on the subject after their experiences.

The only insecure people are the ones who feel threatened or annoyed when someone talks about their faith. Why is that?

Spiritual comments Im ok with - but we wont get one foot on mars until we can finally wash ourselves of religious differences.

"Gods are for kids and insecure people".
Widespread Atheism is relatively new. Human beings have lived their lives for 99.99% of their history believing in gods or God. Because we today can conceive of the non-existence of God, does that make us better in some way? Certainly not!
Far greater people than you or I have held such beliefs.

Nick, you must be more intelligent and have more insight than Charlie Duke, Eugene Cernan, Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton, right?
