    Hello, I have a question, I purchased a NOCO 15000 for a 100amp hr 12 volt battle born. When it's charging, I take out my voltmeter and get a reading of 13.6 to 13.7 I don't read the 14.4 volts. Should it be showing 14.4 or at the level of the battery and that's why it's 13.6 volts?

    • @Powerstroke98
      @Powerstroke98 19 дней назад

      Having Lithium batteries myself (Battle born, 4 of them) my OEM charger/converter in my motorhome, charges the batteries just fine. The only time it will take them to 14.4v - 14.6v is when it goes into a 'bulk' phase (or some call it the absorption phase) , as the previous phase is the 'float' phase. The batteries don't usually hold in the 14+ phase, as they go into a 'rest phase' staying around the 13.7V. I've had my Battle Born batteries for about 3 years, with no issues whatsoever. I did add a Victron 'shunt' allowing me to use an app on my iPhone, so I can see how the batteries are doing, from inside our RV. We have a residential fridge, so this obviously lowers the batteries down overnight, to where I use my generator to bring them back up. Not all campsites, RV parks have shore power, so having Lithium has helped to where I don't have to worry about the batteries going down below their 50% usage, to where it might harm a regular flooded lead-acid batteries, but not a Lithium.

    Hi
    I have same charger g7200 and try to charge Renogy 12v 100ah lifePO4 battery under "lithium" mode, but it only charges up to 48-50% and 100% light comes on? Is it bvecause of the BMS? Should I use different charge mode?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  3 года назад +2

      These type of chargers use a generic lithium charging profile that may not be an exact match to the manufacturer's recommended settings. You may want to do some research or contact Renogy to find the settings for best charging for that model battery. The Noco may be off by a few tenths of a volt and that may be enough to throw off the charging of the battery.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this review.
    I often wonder what Chip is used for the Charging Profiles?
    Is it the same Chip used in CTEK products?
    Or other similar type chargers quoting very similar specs?
    Do their share common algorithms?
    I ask this, because the 3.5A Noco or 5A CTEK both offer Small and Larger Battery selection.
    Where as the 7.2A Noco or 7A CTEK do not offer a selection between Battery Sizes

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  7 лет назад

      Good question. I don't know the answer, unfortunately. Maybe if I can find the time and funds I can take two of them apart and compare the inside electronics.

    • @mountainconstructions
      @mountainconstructions 7 лет назад

      Ive done it. The parts used and build quality of the CTEK is far superior than the Noco.
      Noco is a very cheaply built unit, with a basic 1 layer board, cheap caps, poor isolation from the 110-240v side.
      It is very simple compared to the CTEK build.
      Hence the price difference i guess.
      As for the chip sets and algorithms, im not sure

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  7 лет назад

      Yeah I would be curious to see what microcontrollers they use. The Noco might overcome some questionable build quality with some awesome programming but probably not.

    So would this work for LiPo battery (2-4 cell) used in the Radio Control applications... ie 2 cell, 7.4v, 1500mAh, 15c. Trying to “revive” a dead cell, and I’ve heard this charger possibly has that capability.

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  4 года назад

      I can't say for sure. It has a fairly generic charging setting for a broad range of lithium chemistries but may not be able to revive anything. Sorry I can't be more helpful on that. If it were individual cells I could recommend a good tool but not for a pack like that.

    Is it possible that lithium iron phosphate batteries can be used for car starting instead of deep cycling? or can it do both?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  7 лет назад

      It can do both. Did you see the video where I started the car with it?
      You just can't leave it in a car because a car alternator cannot charge lithium and it would damage the battery.

      I was talking about the material for the battery. Can one lithium iron phosphate battery do 3 things (start a car, deep cycle, and wait for a power outage)? Is it like a lead acid battery where the anode/cathode need to be thicker than usual to handle deep cycling?

      Actually they can be used under the hood of a car if properly insulted from the heat. Most name brand cells can handle up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit before they become unstable. I do competition car audio and I run a 40ah lithium battery under the hood of my car along side 6 banks of maxwell boostcaps an I charge between 16 and 16.8 volts. My particular battery uses four 18650s in series so that's why I can charge to 16.8 safely, each shell can be charged to 4.2 volts.

    Can the G26000 charge a 12V 150Ah LiFePo4 battery with the 14.2 volt mode/setting at 14.4 volts?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  2 года назад

      It will charge the battery but it most likely will not be anywhere near full. 14.2V is too low for most LFP batteries. They need 14.4-14.6V and some time to balance the cells. My NOCO that you see in this video does not fully charge my LFP batteries. So you can use it in a pinch (it won't hurt the batteries) but for your everyday charger for a lithium battery it is not the best choice.

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  4 года назад +2

      LiFePO4 is Lithium Ion. But yes there are slight differences in charging profiles between the two chemistries but that is also the case with lead acid. The settings are close enough to charge the battery without harming it, even though it may not reach 100% SoC every time. It will be close enough for most.

    • @thethoughtmaster
      @thethoughtmaster 4 года назад

      @@LDSreliance Do you think chargers with LiFe and LiPo can charge LiFePo4, because these companies are not putting LiFePo4 on the specifications and other people are charging 18650 that are smaller LiFePo4. I can not wait any longer for them to start stating in their specifications. ISDT says no, other people say yes they can do LiFePo4.
      If I want a massive battery pack I want to know it will be charged, balanced and discharged optimally for long life. The LiFePo4 commercial chargers are a bit slow in reaching the mainstream market. I can not get all in one on Banggood.

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  4 года назад

      The BMS takes care of the balancing. So that is not a function that you should be worried about with a charger. Maybe look in the documentation/specifications and see if the charging profile is cc/cv (constant current constant voltage). If so, then it can definitely handle LiFePO4. Also, if the charger is programmable you should be able to put in your own settings.
      I do sell chargers for this application, though. If you want to email me I can send you a quote. ldsreliance@gmail.com

      It is a generic lithium charging profile so it isn't perfect. Ideally, you want to get a charger with specific parameters designed for your battery. But if you don't have anything else this will do the job just fine. It doesn't hurt the battery not to be fully topped off. Obviously you lose a little bit of performance since it isn't 100% charged but not much.

    I am trying to use a G7200 to charge a new 12v lithium battery (from lithiumbatterycompany.com), and the Genius charger seems to not like charging batteries that have too low of voltage. These batteries ship at around 3volts... so when the genius tries to charge it, it stops after a few seconds. This is how it looks: ruclips.net/video/a4TYjpby1pU/видео.html (it goes into standby because of the low voltage).
    Is there any way to force the charger to charge when the battery has a low charge?

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  6 лет назад +1

      No, unfortunately. I have heard of this problem before. Do you have another battery that has a charge that you can attach in parallel and try charging that way? That might help it jump start.

    • @MicheIIePucca
      @MicheIIePucca 6 лет назад

      I think the challenge is that some lithium batteries have a build in BMS that appears to prevent charging if the charger does not limit current and voltage. The Noco Genuis chargers will go to "standby" if the battery is too low, so these chargers are not appropriate for charging in this case. While this isn't a problemwith lead acid batteries, since you can just use a regular car charger, I'm a bit careful with the lithium since it was $180 and I don't want to damage it :)

    • @LDSreliance
      @LDSreliance  6 лет назад +2

      The BMS will prevent damage. You can try charging the battery on a lead acid setting and see if it works. I have had a customer do that before and it worked.
