This is such a cool interview! Thank you! Race for the Galaxy is my favorite game! And Winter Court is one of my favorites! Haven’t played Res Arcana yet but so excited to try it!

Fascinating! 🤩 It's amazing to hear it from the horses mouth. So much story and insite here, making for a really juicy interview. I love that drafting was at the core. Hearing the thought process in detail was truly amazing ❤

Tom is one of my favorite designers. He is so through and puts a lot of thought in his games. He does a great job of articulating his decisions and design
Also love the in-depth blogs he also puts out about his designs
Whenever he puts out a game, I know that I'm in for a treat and that he put a lot of work into making it feel right, balance is good, and there is a nice gameplay arc

Excellent game. Just a treat to play in a chill, semi-competitive way with the family.
    Thanks Tom!

This video was really fascinating. Always interesting to see the thought process of game designers. Most seem to write down ideas, then try with little pawns or what not. I saw a video of Bruno Cathala saying that weirdly, he usually doesn't like to write down his ideas. They're in his head til he makes a prototype so they can flow freely in his mind for quite a while.
Res Arcana is a fantastic game. I cannot wait to get Perlae Imperii. Already had the chance to try it out twice and I loved it. Some really interesting new combos I've already seen, and I am thrilled that there is the Illusionist now!

So interesting, thank you! While I'm not usually a fan of the fantasy theme, I absolutely love the artwork in Res. So cool to hear about the easter eggs.

Very interesting interview. My son and I just played for the first time recently and it adds so much to just understand the thought process.

Res Arcana is so good! It’s crazy how much punch that game packs with just an 8 card deck and a few resources. Both expansions are excellent as well. Love it!

Thanks for the interview, Candice and Tom! Res Arcana is one of my favorite games, and it was great to hear some background stories behind it. I got to briefly meet the guys from Trick or Treat, and they're also very excited about the upcoming Lehmann game from their studio.

This is a great feature - Tom Lehman must be one of the designers I admire most on a mechanical level. Super stuff.

Tom is so impressively conscious of everything he has done in his game designs, and why he has done it. Nothing seems superfluous or out of place.

I'm really in doubt whether the focus of this show on about the host or the guest.

    • @ptlehmann
      @ptlehmann 2 года назад +6

Why does it have to be one or the other? Candice comes up with great questions, refines them with the guest, and does a fine job of interviewing and then editing it into a polished interview. She's trying to elicit the creative and developmental processes from the guest designer and, watching several other episodes, does a pretty good job (in my opinion). Given that's her goal, each guest is obviously going to be a focus as well.

@@ptlehmann Tom, I think Jan was being sarcastic. Candice pretty much gave you the stage and I think that was obvious. Mind you, that is exactly how Candice should have handled this interview as I think most people wanted to listen to what you had to say and I’m not sure a structured list of questions what have given us all this. So, she asked a few basic questions and then let you run with it. And we benefited from it.

31:35 Product manager likely never played any games before and thought that the games are like any other products that he/she needed to manage.

Great game designer... but not shares the same level as person (I think).
