  • The lithium battery inside my Tivoo has failed. Also, it has no protection circuit. This seems to be a common fault for this product. Be careful not to use fast charging capable chargers with this and stick with the included micro usb cable, it's very particular about which cables will work with it.

After seeing your video I purchased a used dead Tivoo on Ebay. Disassembled it and removed the battery. There was no circuit on the end of the battery so I soldered the battery harness to a new 18650 battery and the Tivoo came alive. Reassembled it and so far the battery is charging and it works fine. Thanks for the informative video.

Hey! That's what it's there for, glad you got something out of it.

Thanks for your guide on how to disassemble this, it was really helpful. Hopefully I can replace my dead cell too and get my Tivoo running soon.
But to be fair, the Tivoo does have a lithium cell protection circuit. That little PCB attached to the cell is the BMS. Which would make sense, as the device does not turn on without the BMS being connected.
I'm not saying the BMS is any good, but it does have one.

Thank you, good to know, I really don't know much about lithium battery circuitry.

@@Rezendes You're welcome. Lithium is finicky. But you were also right about it pssibly being a cheap lithium cell in the Tivoo. I'm going to try replacing it with a Samsung or LG. Wish me luck!
EDIT: Just confirmed that my older Tivoo (Rev1_3, 2017) does not have the lithium cell protection board as shown in your video. It also refuses to turn on with the cell removed, so it seems I WILL need a working cell for this to turn on.

I have a Divoom Pixoo 16x16 Pixel Art. The battery is defective and the device no longer works. I removed the battery. What do I need to make the device work without a battery?

mine doesn’t hold charge anymore. But will power on when you plug in a charger, unplug, then plug again. Battery shows up and displays 12:00

You should've just soldered back a brand-new battery, it would've worked fine and charged

Absolutely, I just decided the lazy way out because I never unplug the thing and I don't have any of those batteries on hand.

Ah! I really miss that startup sound! It seems like I have the same exact problem as you, but I don't have enough skill to do what you attempted here. What contact did you use to get in touch with them to have the battery replaced? Glad to know I'm not the only one to experience this.

I just went to their website and probably emailed them for a complete replacement unit.

I ended up just removing my battery because it was dead, so mine does not charge but it does turn on and works fine as long as I keep it plugged into the wall. I always keep it plugged in anyways.
