Hey! I really enjoy your videos, they make a lot of things clearer for me. Can you maybe make a video where you describe what different electronic components work in terms of shaping sound? For example I cannot get my head around what a capacitor does in a guitar signal, but they are used everywhere. I know it charges and discharges, but that doesn't really translate in my understanding. Thank you!
@mixermantim Check out hte madbean project for the slambox. The PCB layout at the bottom of page two has all that info: +9v, Neg or Ground, In and Out. Following tonepads offboard wiring diagram 5 to wire it all up. Hope that answers you question.
Hang on.... on my pigtronix philosopher's stone, on the dc jack that they use and you recommend to use, why is the red/power wire hooked up to the ground and the black/negative wire hooked up to the power lead?
No problem. There is only one australian pedal parts online shop which is pedal parts australia. Well...my webstore as well i guess, but i dont sell hardware, just components. Pedal Parts Plus and mammoth are 2 USA based companies that sell predrilled enclosures.
Hi Christy. Unfortunately its difficult to know and could be a wide range of problems. I would go over to diystompboxes forum and ask your question there. There are alot of smart people on that forum and they will hopefully be able to help with your problem. Good luck!
Hi! I'm new to the world of making my own pedals. I was looking for a very sensitive momentary 3pdt footswitch. I've bought some, but they take a significant amount of pressure to switch over. I'd like to be able to lightly tap the switch and have it work. Can you help? Thank you.
Im strugglung to find out which side is the in and out of the green polyester capacitors as there is no leg which is longer than the other nor is there a colour band. Having the polyester capacitors lying flat with the label facing you and the labels typing from left to write, is the anode or the cathode above the label or is it below? I know i made this hard to understand. Thanks
A thing I don't really get with the power supply, why is it common to put plus on the outside of the jack? If it was on the inside you could just connect the ground of the power supply to the housing of your effect pedal. Then everything would be on ground on the housing. I think it doesn't make any sense to have plus on the outside?
I think...this may have come from Boss. They kind of set the standard and used those pcb mounted plastic jacks so it wasnt a problem for them. Could be wrong there but thought i would have a crack at it :D Excellent question witchrider, would like to know if you find a more solid answer.
@@DiyguitarpedalsAu From what i´ve heard is, that boss really started doing this. Probably to "force" the customers to also buy their power supplies. And as you said, Boss set the standard on effect pedals back then, so every company else started to do so, too.
Paaaul, i got a stupid stereo Jack with 4 lugs :P shall i just wire normally following the multimeter or shall connect the exttra lug with its respective lug (seems that are 2 sleeve lugs) .Cheers!
Thanx dude, helpful stuff as always. Q) You mentioned 2 Australian companies in another video. One was Aus Pedal Parts but I can't remember the other one. Do you know if either of them offer pre drilled enclosures?
That's the SIMPLEST explanation of a 3pdt I've ever heard. It's like you switched on my understanding, if that makes any sense.

So do i :) Thanks for the compliment. I think once you get what each component does, things start to make sense.
I would use a multimeter in continuity mode to determine which lug is which and also, how the jack works (normally open / normally closed etc)
Your Channel Rocks! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! Greetings From Brazil!

Thanks pablo! I have a heap of videos for beginners to get start on the channel, make sure you check em out and thanks again for the compliment!
I really wish you'd made this a year ago...really well explained.
Amazing channel! I will start learning about electronics from scratch in order to build my pedals :D Thank you so much for sharing your know-how!
Pablo Fernandes yeah ? Same here . How did it go for you??

No problem Mikastu, glad it helped and gl!

@mixermantim no prob mate, i hope a did a decent job explaining the components.
thanks! Yeah it likes to do that!

they are bi-polar, dont worry about it
@@jerryyeaaah15 thanks man. I still hadn't figured this out until now so I really appreciate the help

nice focus bro, other than that thanks for teaching us
your videos are good its just annoying when your camera never focuses!
