When Janis was shown with a girl about to go to prom I sobbed in the theater out of joy. It’s something so small to many people but this is a HUGE step for the lgbtq community. Idk it made me so happy to finally see her be her true self especially singing she’d rather be herself and getting with a girl right after. It felt like she closeted herself due to the endless bullying of Regina in this version before she finally snapped. She finally apologized to herself for hiding the true her, said screw it, and began to fly into the person she wanted to be. Something about seeing that happen and it not be “look she’s lgbtq let’s clap and make it this huge thing the entire time” was heartwarming to me. It touched me after being closeted as a bi-demisexual who was denied by my parents for dating the same sex at one point. Seeing her sing Id rather be me on the big screen and then be herself was magical. 😭

Millennials fought SO hard for Gen Z nad Alpha to do this bc we love you (just like the generations before us.) I'm only 2 yrs older than Lindsey and deeply remember this. I grew up where being bi was a punchline and I had to identify as straight bc I am religious and and bc I KNEW I wasn't lesbian. I feel so much for Lindsey. "Bi is just a stop on the way to Gay town" was *always* the abusive joke even by my gay friends I received and told just to come out already and laughed at so I just stayed as an advocate for my gay friends. I didn't even understand I who I was until I was 36 with 2 kids and in an abusive marriage for over decade.
