The trick here is that is always full, I've tried for more than a month to get an ARM server with the specs mentioned and no luck. If you just want for experiments buy a small minipc, get an old laptop or a raspberry pie and learn there, it's always better to self-host in terms of learning experience.
or call a local MSP for ecycle hardware. found one near me that let me pick apart what they were tossing and got a few laptops, a couple desktops with 32gb ddr3 ram, and a full dell rack server with 32gb ddr4 ram. only thing i needed to buy myself was hard drives

They have a very small amount of servers allocated for the free tier. and since their always free, nobody has any incentive to give theirs up. So it's basically impossible to get a free server. You're better off just signing up and making use of the $300 free credit. Even then my Oracle Cloud server got terminated for no reason halfway through the month on the $300 trial.
yes, its infinitely better to self host with the old laptop thats collecting dust in the basement than to use any cloud provider even if its free. however, the only problem is that people without a public ip (see also: Symmetric NAT) can't open ports to the internet. but still, isps do give you one if you ask for it.

It works bro. You just have to be "lucky" and be on there when the capacity is available. I just got mine but it was luck that the capacity was available for the creation of my instance.
Well, the signup form is buggy and slow AF (probably server-side rendering or bad JS), also I can not step through the payment verification step... If you search for this, you will find, that this is an issue, which exists since 2021 at least...

Forgot to mention that they tend to randomly deactivate free accounts. My account got deactivated less than two weeks after creation, and i didn't even get a chance to actually use it.
I've had thir problem as well. The trick that worked for me was filling it in like i was a business, uncheck the business and then the button kept enabled

It is true, but who knows for how long this "forever free" thing is really So far Oracle cloud seems like they're making money so I think nothing will change in the short term, but in a few years? Who knows If you need reliability, just pay for the stuff.

For real. I woke up one day and my Oracle Cloud account was terminated for god knows what. I had a modded Minecraft server running on it so I lost all of my progress. Oracle Cloud is a shit company and it's impossible to get one of the free servers with the amount of snipers that instantly get them as soon as more are allocated.

identification by payment method: click button, log in, done identification by ID: download some random proprietary app on a phone, take photo of yourself and ID, have some biometric algorithm fuck up a couple times, if you're lucky there's a manual intervention system. not to mention that just sending your ID around is majorly stupid in terms of data protection.
Hi, thanks for the video. As pointed out by others here, the boot volume costs 1.85 USD/month. You could have mentioned that. Furthermore, after downloading the ssh key, there is one step missing in your video. You need to start puttygen and import this key to generate a putty compatible key. Without that step it is not working. For thos of you wondering why there is no Credentials Section under SSH, you need to download the latest version.
@@ponchobob if I remember the steps correctly, you most likely chose the wrong server setup. You need to choose the ampere server (ARM based cpu) and the 24gb ram selection. (If 1 server). Technically you can host 2 servers with what you are given with for the free server. (Split the server cpu up for 2 servers. Etc. 1 ocpu + # of ram and storage and 3 ocpu + # ram and storage. Together those servers would have 24gb ram and 200gb storage). Also the free tier servers are limited to capacity of that region. You may not be able to get it in the region closest to you. I hope this information helps. It’s been a while since I made my server on oracle so something could have changed since then.
Part of the rules is that if your device is idle for so long, they will shut it down until you turn it back on. If the instance is busy, it will never shut down

I was able to register, I was using it, but suddenly my account crashed and I can no longer log in to my account because it doesn't exist, but if I try to recreate the account, it says that the account already exists.
Yeah except the fact that they can and will close down your server any time they want without sending you an email explaining why they did it. I had setup my cloud and backup server on oracles free tier server and after like 2 weeks i log back in the portal to see that my server is gone. I tried emailing the support team but I havent heard back from them. Just pay for a VPS or self host from your own network.

obviously this mean that the instance you selected can't be deployed in the domain (which mean region here) you selected as it is out of capacity, you have to select another region maybe like korea. But keep in mind the furthest the domain/region is the worst the latency (ping) will be.

I made an account, accidentally upgraded, and couldn't downgrade. Deleted my account, and now I can't make a new account.

About a year ago I tried for months to get a free one. Even had a script running that would refresh every few minutes and try again. I was never able to get one. They have a very small amount of servers allocated for the free tier. and since their always free, nobody has any incentive to give theirs up. So it's basically impossible to get a free server. You're better off just signing up and making use of the $300 free credit. Even then my Oracle Cloud server got terminated for no reason halfway through the month on the $300 trial.
upgrade to a pay as you go plan its still free but you get access to so many more servers I have one and I haven't spent a penny

1 core and 1 gig ram is the free tier. Then you pay (in my case) $3 a month for the "the boot volume" nothing to see here, its a load of Bollocks.

If you mean by the label, it's normal for Ampere A1 instances to not show the "free tier eligible" thing on the storage

It will not proceed after payment verification. This looks like a scam. It has been going on since 2021. If it were a bug, it would have been fixed by now. This seems like a deliberate strategy to allow a few sign-ups while failing others.
