      I would love to see more facilities like this. I like the conservation aspect of what they are doing. The fully mature fish that are too large to keep In captivity any longer, they release.

    I am so thrilled that mahi mahi breed so easily in captivity. Mahi mahi is my favorite fish and I want to be able to grow my own on my property some day.

    Guys, releasing farm raised Mahi Mahi into the wild will not increase the population of wild Mahi Mahi. However reducing commercial fishing pressure on Mahi Mahi, due to Mahi Mahi fish farms, will increase both the population and average size of Mahi Mahi in the wild.

      As stated in the video, the females release an incredible amount of eggs. This is a high fecundity species. They have no problem repopulating in the wild.

    Captain mike have you ever boated a blue marlin? Do you target them at all? Why is the blue marlin fishing so poor around the Miami area when it’s so good here off the SC coast where I live.

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, I've caught many, but only one locally off South Florida about 350 in 650 ft. Conditions are different, bottom terrain is different, more tuna up there (primary forage). - Capt Mike

    • @williamseale
      @williamseale 6 лет назад +1

      Florida Sport Fishing Awesome. Nothing like a blue marlin bite. Most explosive bite there is by far

    • @williamseale
      @williamseale 6 лет назад

      Florida Sport Fishing What did you do with the marlin? Did you smoke it? Where you in a tournament

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 лет назад +2

      We release all marlin, regardless if there is a tournament or not. They are worth far more alive. Smoke kingfish. - Capt Mike

    • @williamseale
      @williamseale 6 лет назад

      Florida Sport Fishing Lol you don’t marlin fish much do you. the term ‘boated’ or ‘landed’ in the blue marlin world means to kill and bring the fish aboard. Almost every marlin tournament has a ‘landed’ category. The 5 tournaments in SC the minimum size limit is 105 inches to kill in a tournament. And it usually pays well over $100,000 if you are the only team to boat a fish. Other than that yes always release

    i had an idea like the video, but I was wondering if regular people can grow fish but not farm them but release them after certain size. For example mutton snapper if I were to farm them until they reach 12" then release them to the ocean that way there more in abundance just a thought.

    A dolphin is a mammal and breathes air. A fish has gills. Mahi Mahi is a dolphinfish. Not a dolphin.

  • @chefjavier1

    you should release more mahi into the wild and grow the population

      This fish is classified as "Least Concern" conservation status meaning this is one of the rare species that restock themselves faster than we can take them.

  • @davefishing8087
    @davefishing8087 6 лет назад +1

    we should cross breed mahi with red snapper or cobia or other species and pass that gene that allow them to grow fast.

    • @blakew.5736
      @blakew.5736 6 лет назад

      David Fray Cross breeding is almost definitely impossible considering how different these species are. The amount of time since mahi shared a common ancestor with snappers or cobia is probably tens of millions of years, so genetically they’d be very unlikely to be able to interbreed. They could possibly isolate the gene for fast growth found in mahi and insert that but there would need to be a lot of testing to see how that affects the development of snappers and cobia. I hope that someone’s working on that though!

    • @FloridaSportFishing

      Interestingly, they are currently experimenting with crossbreeding grouper species. Its happening now. - Capt Mike

    The little bit of info was cool. But… just talk normal next time. No need to make it super slow , drag it out , make exaggerated expressions. We talk slow here in Tennessee as well. However , this video is almost cringe worthy due to the actions and awkwardness of your gestures. 👍🏻 other than that. It was definitely interesting and I learned a few things.

  • @CompassionIsPower

    Any health benefits from fish could easily be found in a plant based diet. Fish is high in cholesterol, fish are sentient beings who feel pain, and the fishing industry kills one dolphin every minute. End this demand now, boycot animal exploitation!
