Bro this gen has been wild, first everybody though Miraidon was mid just to find out it's actually horrifyingly strong, then you had Roaring Mid that winds up getting to finals twice in a mirror match.
I think they were talking about overall in reg G. In the original regulation, everyone thought it wasn't going to be so good, it then won the first reg G tournament and worlds. Koraidon, people thought would be great but enabling opposing flutters and the rise in pelliper meant it struggled. There was like 0 pellipers this tournament, Zama was one of the most used and this meant koraidon fit perfectly in the meta.
When you hear the casters talk about very few 3 time regional champions it just blows your mind even more that wolfe has ten and three of those were with a perish trap variant😭
@@alexanderbatterbee8369 Most of the top competitors that we're familiar with have more going on. It's fine that Wolfe has been focused on pokemon, but if you're going to glaze him so hard at least understand that having more results is to be expected when it's the entire focus of a person's life. Having said that, as good as Wolfe is, he doesn't put up results that are so far ahead of the pack as would justify focusing his entire life on this pursuit. He's at the same level as a guy who earned a PhD whilst Wolfe has been unable to progress beyond impressive results in NA-VGC tournaments. We've had a 3x world champ. The 2024 world champ is a kid who hasn't competed outside of South America until he joined masters this year. Put it in perspective. Yes, Wolfe is a great player, he's very consistent. But when you consider the amount of time and focus he is able to put into Pokemon he's just not at the level you'd expect. This "world champ difference" bs was old when it started. Wolfe was world champ almost 10 years ago and hasn't been on that level since. But by all means, glaze harder. Maybe senpai will notice you.
I still see major flaw in Koraidon teams. I don't know why they are using flame charge instead of tailwind with a support Pokemon. That turn they use setting up could instead be a one shot or major damage on an opponent while also getting speed boost for your entire team with tailwind. Koraidon is already faster then everything except Fluttermane, Miraidon, and Calyrex-S. Koraidon can easily one shot all of them. Not to mention there are way better moves then flame charge that Koraidon can use. Swords dance or bulk up if you have a follow me/rage powder teammate. You can easily sweep since nothing will live attacks after that. Crunch/shadow claw for coverage of Tera ghost. Breaking swipe to drop attack. Taunt to stop set up or trick room. There are plenty of Chlorophyll users too who Koraidon teams could benefit so much from being on their team. Why is that ability used so much with Torkoal sun teams, but Koraidon players ignore such good teammates. Jumpluff, Venasaur, Scovillian, Lilligant...all useful but hardly used with Koraidon? I really feel a move change to any of the other options over flame charge would help significantly. Swords dance even helps make the Calyrex-Ice match up easier. Flame charge is not the right meta call and Koraidon is stuck in the past figuratively and literally.
@@kdmrry Unfortunately I'm broke, can't travel, barely living off each paycheck, and there are no tournaments where I live. I would if I could. Much rather do that then where my life currently is at.
@@Chibuga you could try your idea out on showdown. Sounds like it has some potential, and if you do well on high ladder I'm sure some folks will notice. That or you could bring it to the next GC.
@@grimmylocked I did try it out back in the previous Reg G in the summer. I got to a rating of around 1500 elo despite never playing vgc. I was just fooling around with Typhlosion with Koraidon because that was my favorite starter. I'm pretty sure I could do better with a proper team. But flame charge was never needed and tailwind support was good enough to outspeed everything. I'm sure an experienced vgc player would surely do better with tailwind over flame charge if I had a positive win ratio with no vgc experience.
Flame charge is used because with the tera boost (60 BP + STAB) alongside sun, it actually deals pretty good damage and means Koraidon can get around it's bad speed tier in relation with Calyrex shadow. It's a tech mostly against that type of team since the MU is terrible without it. You use it to finish off weak opponent's like flutter mane or a sash urshifu to then be able to outspeed your opponent's restricted in the next turn. It also plays around tailwind from the opposing team. Also, you're right about the chrolophyll pokemon. There's a reason why Groudon seems to have made a resurgence with Jumpluff of all pokemon.
