Shiv Kumar Sharma explaining their concepts of a raga, a gharana, and their world of music. Characteristics of various gharana/schools such as the Jaipur gharana, the Kirana gharana, the Agra gharana, the Patiala gharana, the Mewati gharana are explained along with the contribution made by their leading exponents.

I thought Khayal didn't really emerge until the late Mughal period, or the 18th century AD. Its main progenitors being Niyamat Khan Sadarang and his milieu.
That would be some 400 years after the time of Amir Khusrao.
The sitar and tabla are also from the late Mughal period; and not as some traditional accounts, created by Amir Khusrao.

This documentery is no doubt informative but its absolutely incomplete in many ways. The script of this documentary film is not properly been consulted. Lots of important information is lacking which is ridiculous and shocking. It shoud be rectified as early as possible.
