I have a theory that the Thomas and friends theme was based off of this song. As this song came out a year before the first Thomas the tank engine episodes were released in 1984.
I did some additional research, here's what I found out: Both this song and the original Thomas music were played on a Roland Jupiter 6 synthesizer. Also, the music for Thomas the Tank Engine was composed by two guys named Mike O'Donnell and Jr. Campbell who were also big Beatles fans. Ringo Starr was also the narrator for the first two seasons of Thomas, and O'Donnell has gone on record saying that the beat for the Thomas theme was inspired by 'Mr. Mustard' by the Beatles. Mike and Jr.'s plan was to get Ringo to hear the theme and offer to sing lyrics to it which never happened. Whether any lyrics were ever actually written for the Thomas theme or not is unknown.

The karaoke version the modern one sounds nothing like this and isn’t sung by the same singer.
