  • The gang head down under for a nailbiting three-way scrap for the title in one of the most dramatic season finales ever. Mansell, Prost and Piquet can all win the title; Keke Rosberg wants to sign off with a good result after a frustrating final season; Berger wanst to build on his maiden win in Mexico and many others want to put themselves in the shop window for 1987...

Definitely my favourite F1 race of all time....I still have my copy of that week's Autosport magazine in my "treasured items" box. Prost fan obviously.....

Still my all-time favourite championship-deciding race. And an incredibly impressive title for Alain Prost, pulling off the impossible by winning the title with an inferior car...

This was the first GP I ever attended. I was in an RAC organised coach trip from Perth. It took 36 hours to get to the Barossa Valley where we stayed for a couple of days which included a Winery Tour and then a six hour drive to Adelaide.
We,had seats in the grandstand near the start finish line but there was no large TV in sight. We heard about Mansell's tyre blow out but did not see it until the evening on the news.

Once again, thank you for bringing us a great season. I love the style and feel of this series and am very grateful to you for bringing it to us. Cheers to all the hard work that goes into it.

I don't think there's any more famous F1 commentary clip than "AND, LOOK AT THAT! AND COLOSSOLLY, THAT'S MANSELL!" from Murray.

It's the F1 version of "Some people are on the pitch ... they think it's all over ... IT IS NOW!"

Loving these videos. Wasn't sure at first but love them after following the 1985 and 86 seasons. Remember my 14 year old self getting up at about 3.30am to watch. It was a wonderful season and the transformation of Mansell from honest but journeyman racer to absolute winner and national hero was amazing. The tyre blowout was and still is one of the most dramatic moments in F1 history. Great commentary by Murray. Still seems like yesterday

I'm glad you stuck with it - the early ones aren't particularly great quality I know!
Mansell's story was one I never really appreciated at the time as I didn't really get into F1 until 1992, when he was winning everything and still complaining about it!

The way that he controlled the car after the blown tyre is something that gets overlooked, in my opinion. That proved how great a driver he was.

@@TurbosTantrumsI started watching watching in 1994 (when I was ten), but had seen some races before then. I loved Monaco GP 2 on the Mega Drive so much that it made me interested. I watched all the old clips of the older F1 seasons on the F1TV app. Shame hardly any full races are available. They should still exist somewhere, don't they?

@@CasperEgas It's a bit hit and miss becuase they're often taken down by LIberty Media, but keep an eye on "Big Zeddie" and "MrViciniusF1", and DailyMotion can be useful.
"Jean-Michel Boileau" posts a lot of the backstage/PQ/Quali footage I use, and if you don't mind paying, Duke Media have a great archive of lower-formula stuff.
And Motorsport Magazine has a full digital archive of all its back issues, with race reports, available for free on their website. You have to create an account, but it doesn't cost anything.

If only Williams had followed their plan, instead of listening to the tyre manufacturers. Who said that the tyres would be fine and that Nigel didn't need to come into the pits for a tyre change.

I understand the feeling of erring on the side of caution but I think Williams should've gone all out to get Piquet the championship after Nige's tyre blowout. Saying that it probably made Piquet even more determined and ultimately more of a dickhead.

Look at 10:57. It was Arnoux "best" race. He damaged Mansell tyre from behind and still people do not mark that and blame good year tyre😁

    • @simonkevnorris
      @simonkevnorris 3 месяца назад

@jarekaugustyn4598 I'm fairly sure Arnoux did not touch Mansell's tyres at all even after one of them blew.
