From Prison to Chef How Cooking Bakareta Changed this Man’s Life (Baguio City Philippines)

- Bakareta saved this man from prison. It is a tomato-based stew that is slow cooked until the meat is fork-tender. It’s a labor of love that Mang Ed learned from his mother who used to sell hot food in the famous Slaughterhouse area in Baguio City. After opening his fifth branch in the province, the now 70+ year old Mang Ed still finds the time to supervise his staff and ensures that the quality still stays the same.
While this may seem like your typical success story, Mang Ed’s life hasn’t always been that easy. Watch the full video to learn how he turned his life around for the better despite encountering some hardships along the way.

I like the way FEATR allowed Tatay Ed to narrate his own story. No voiceovers. No intros. No bgm during the first few minutes. FEATR really "features" the people and makes them shine on their own.
Agree ❤
💯 esp the no long bg intro with blaring music that doesn’t even match the content.

Yes your name is familiar.. boy negro..
Kudos! Erwan & featr for not removing Mang Ed’s testimony of God’s goodness & miracles in his life. The turn of events in his life & how he tells his story made this episode legit🙏🏼💪🏼
Featr is now definitely one of my favorite channels in this platform, I just love all the content you guys put out!! ❤️ Amazing team!
You're the best!
I'm a fourth year student in one of the universities in Baguio. Been here since high school. Hoping to visit Mang Ed's Bakareta after graduation as a gift to myself. And surely bring my friends too!
Isa ako sa naging empleyado mo uncle ed. The best ka talaga mag manage samin 🙏🙏
I've been there and it tastes really good. But I did not know the story behind it. God turns sorrow into joy!! God bless you all.
Mang Ed's life story can be a movie 😊
Great story Mang Ed, thank you for reminding us that nothing is impossible and that we can always have a brand new day in life, and letting us know that GOD is the way for the better day ahead.
What makes this video special (for me) is how it’s solely focused on Ed aka Boy Negro, his history = both failure and success that he has achieved and how the production team respects his religious beliefs instead of editing it out like other channels do. One of the best Featr videos yet. Thank you Featr and most of all, thank you Ed for sharing your story with us.
Mang Ed, to God be the Glory! Your testimony shows that only God through Jesus Christ can put back our broken pieces and turn it into something beautiful . FEATR, thank you for a remarkable episode. More power to your channel.
❤❤❤❤❤
Now i can really see why erwan changed name to featr. You guys never disappoint! There is always learning,so much culture and history you guys tend to search and showcase in yt. Kudos to the team!
I'm planning a solo trip to Baguio city someday and this will definitely be one of the restaurants I will be visiting. 😋 Can't wait!

Love your testimony Mang Ed. I hope someday matikman ko ang authentic bakareta recipe nyo. God bless you. Thanks FEATR.
Ganito sana content ng ibang food vlogs. Hindi puro masarap lang ang pagkain.
Mang Ed thank you for your very inspiring testimony. And to Featr, you nailed an extraordinary episode, you did not just feature about food but you also highlight the transformed life of Mang Ed. Amazing grace indeed!

Thank you for this Easter story. Indeed, may this Easter be a time of renewal and recommitment to following Jesus and accepting His will.
May we experience the joy and peace that come from living in alignment with His plans for our lives. Easter blessings to the FEATR family.
Indeed, such a beautiful story of redemption for all of us not just for Mang Ed.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is your faithfulness." ~ Lamentations 3:22-23

Interesting FEATR. I am happy for the transformation of Mang Ed.
Amen for the testimony 👏👏👏🙏
This is, by far, my favorite episode. God is good all the time. And there is no way we can ever escape from the love of God.
Ganda talaga mag tell ng story ni Erwan. ❤️
I remember me and my teammates go straight to their eatery right after work at 5am to drink and eat. Back then there are only 2 tables on the 2nd floor right next to her daughters room. While eating and drinking we see them pass by preparing to go to school.
😂😂😂😂
Sana maisapelikula buhay nya magandang aral story ng buhay nya Maraming Salamat po sa Dios purihin natin ang Makapangyarihan na Dios sadyang Mabuti po ang Panginoon
Appreciate it FEATR that you didn't remove the prayer part :-)
The Philippines has been known for developing world-class documentaries, Featr is not far behind its predecessors.
Very inspiring, Good job Mang Ed 👏🙏 Best Bakareta in town! 🇵🇭❤️
God never stops chasing us... God Bless Mang Ed
Lkg
This is what and how content should be. Thanks, @FEATR. for setting up a standard and for coming up with something with a deep story, inspirational, and then its cooking process. More than the food vlog itself, its the story of those people involved in the content and the culture of every place visited. Great job!
Right, love this channel ❤
I didn't know that the old man is the famous "Boy Negro"? I used to eat at their eatery when I was taking up nursing at BCU (Baguio Central University) just above the slaughter house. I believe his life was made into a movie "Boy Negro" starred by Philip Salvador.
With a young Joko Diaz as the young “Boy Negro”..
The Boy Negro that Phillip Salvador portrays in the movie is a different person, his name is Arsenio Cayanan, Mang Ed is another Boy Negro but not the one that you refer to.
Boy negro po ng Baguio slaughter yan! Cya ang original!👍
One of the best episodes.
Sana ganito ang mga tao, sana kaunti na lang ang nasa kulungan … kasi dapat na silang alisin sa mundo. In God’s grace ,power and love . We love and hail your name ❤.
God is good all the time. Inspirational story. Thank you FEATR...
Beautiful story that brought tears to my eyes.
Nagmayat nga istoryam agyaman kami iti adu Mang Ed!
The background music adds more impact to the video.
napakahusay nang pagkakagawa nito. kudos FEATR!
That country classic background music hits that highland vibes, whoever thought of that made his/her research. Job well done.
Love this! God always has a funny way of teaching us lessons. ❤
Top notch production. Very impressive 👍
God is good all the time! ❤️ Truly an inspiring story. More blessings to this channel!
