    From what I’ve heard him say is he’s super whippy with his arm and he’s tall and athletic so it makes sense he can bomb it when he wants but I did notice his legs aren’t as engaged and his left arm comes flying thru when he throws similar to how I do and have always tried to fix. Just love how people are so mind blown as to how a guy can throw so far with a different and not as optimal form. Happens in every sport where people can throw, hit, kick so far with form that isn’t the best so people try to mimic that instead of the form that is best for body and consistency

    People will have a much easier time copying Coles form than mastering Paul’s timing. Most people aren’t athletes and should stick to easy repeatable movement patterns, not some double moves with the arms and minimal elastic tension at the shoulders. I’ve been saying this for awhile, people should copy Calvin not Paul if they want to throw far. Most people will need 100,000 throws to come anywhere close to understanding Mcbeths timing.
    Cole definitely still pushes off of his cross step, he’s just pushing backward instead of sideways into his plant and letting the leg sweep off the ground. Basically pushing toe heel instead of heel toe. (He basically falls, toe heel, lands on his plant with all his weight, and at that point allows his trailing foot/leg to slide/scrape off the ground as he smashes his lead hip from closed to open and slings that long lever along with it.) Cole gets much more backward than Paul and that allows him to create a much deeper coil and essentially a longer lever than Paul.
    Neither is right or wrong, both of these guys have proven they can compete and win against the best in the world.
    Only an idiot would discount Cole Redalen, he is easily one of the best most consistent and exciting young players on tour. Absolutely everything he does is correct and if you learn to copy him closely you will probably excel in many areas of disc golf.
    The same is of course true of Paul Mcbeth, the current era GOAT. Nobody can tell you not to try to throw like Paul, he has the best proven track record of any current active player. I personally think his form is really hard to even describe, let alone for an amateur, especially a less athletic one to attempt to emulate.
    Coles form is NOT easy to emulate by any stretch of the road either, but his movement pattern with his off arm is much less important to his throwing power and I think that makes his form exponentially easier to copy. A ton of players throw exactly like Cole, probably more bombers throw like Cole than Paul. More MPO players throw like Cole than Paul.

    I agree 100%! I'm 5'7 and have this same issue. I have similar distance to Bodanza, but there is no way in hell I am hitting 500 on frozen ropes without getting my left leg involved in the throw. I am throwing putters 300ish Rocs 350ish, Fairways 380ish, and Drivers 420 on low golf lines. I've been playing since 2018 and with this form I have been able to reach roughly 980 rated, but I know there is no way to push into the 1000s at this age without using the back leg. I am going to attempt to do a complete reset this off season and document it to see what I can do with switching to the "correct" style.

    I just wanna point out, Drew Gibson is currently training Bonanza to get him to throw 500+ ft.
    The #1 thing they're working on, is for Bodanza to stop dragging that back leg around and actually driving off it in his throw... Extremely similar to how Cole is dragging his own back leg.
    Bodanza is like 5'7 (max), throws 400+ and will be hitting his 500ft goal.
    Comparatively, Cole being a young 6'5" life time athlete driving 550+ on tour is not justification that his form is ideal lol.
    If anything it means there's so much more untapped potential there.

      I think so many people forget too that when you’re on tour and can already naturally throw so far you aren’t gonna really be focusing on form during a tour when you find what works for you especially in terms of throwing accurately. My form sucks but I can hit lines pretty damn well so even tho I’m always focusing on form in a tournament setting I try to just do what I naturally do and hit lines at the expense of form and distance

    • @ViJt-oq5nq
      @ViJt-oq5nq 11 месяцев назад

      @@levig6238 Cuz it honestly should be so common sense you shouldn't need a disc golf coach to tell you if you just think about all the other sports you've played in the in the past.
      When I was taught to throw a basketball, power comes from loading up the back leg. Whenever I was taught swing a bat, you sit over your back leg and drive hip rotation. When I was taught to throw a ball, your pushing off the back leg. When throwing a jab, pushing off the back leg. Even when I'm playing beer pong, I can push off my back leg to hit those far away cups lol
      Oh, but in disc golf just drag those massive quads, hamstrings as glutes along the floor and don't use it to contribute to core rotation 😂
      Yea, makes total conventional sense.

    • @ViJt-oq5nq
      @ViJt-oq5nq 10 месяцев назад

      @@octogintillion Here's the difference.... People who are throwing with the back leg aren't going "full sprint". They lean towards a "walk" up to help with timing and getting into position... Drew Gibson being the most extreme example.
      Guys who are more front leg oriented are using that faster "run up" to compensate for not driving aggressively off their non dominant left leg.

    The distinction seems to become clearer and clearer. You can drive rotation of the hip by pushing from behind or bracing in the front. This is clearly the extreme of not pushing, and relying on the brace forcing the rotation while violently and athletically twisting his upper body.
    Maybe he could throw even harder if he got the back leg reqruitment down. But for sure redistributing some of the work to other joints ( away from the front knee and shoulder ), would increase his longevity

    The thing to keep in mind is that we humans can do a lot ... badly. And we can get a lot of mileage despite doing things incorrectly. Cole is rotated back quite a bit, and leaning a lot in that video clip, and maybe he corrects that issue on other throws. But there might just be a law of diminishing returns on what he can get beyond what he's currently doing. And he might get less than what you think, though still an improvement over what he's doing now. Just something to think about. 🙂

  • @jansingber376
    @jansingber376 11 месяцев назад +8

    Cole is top 5 distance thrower in the world. I think you're not seeing something about his form. Look at how much farther his shoulders turn.... very similar to Eagle. I think this is the future of the Whip..... More rotation and it starts twisting so much farther that it looks like rounding. Rotational speed vs. the old school throwing your hips with force. He and Gannon are possibly the most form obsessed young disc golfers in the world.

    • @ViJt-oq5nq
      @ViJt-oq5nq 11 месяцев назад +3

      If you look at Ganon and Eagle, they absolutely throw off the back leg, but yes, they have insane amounts of flexibility where their shoulders are perpendicular to their hips at the reach back.

      Cole really gets that belt buckle past 180 degrees from the target, it's insane and what I think is the new school. He has more similarity to Gannon because of how upright he likes to be, where Eagle uses a deep bend and more leg power to generate speed. The rotational force Cole uses is definitely more akin to Drew and AB. @@ViJt-oq5nq

    Funny how everybody focuses on throwing the disc a thousand feet but it doesn't mean much without accuracy and consistency. Cole has plenty of distance to compete on tour. It's the accuracy, putting, and consistency that wil get him tour wins or not.

  • @TheMakki
    @TheMakki 11 месяцев назад +1

    The thing that isn't emphasized enough is turning the hips enough to have your belt buckle aiming towards the target. THEN extending your arm. That is the true slingshot. Everything before that is giving your body time to generate speed, torque, and momentum to transfer into the disc. If you're disc is coming out before the belt buckle is aiming down your line -- you're all arm and way too early. Drew fixed Bodanaza in the matter of minutes on this.

    • @codyhall1636
      @codyhall1636 11 месяцев назад +2

      He still hasn't fixed it though. Watch his last throw at the end of the first full day of actual training footage. His back leg is still an anchor/dead weight and his belt buckle is not facing targetward before the hit. He's still pulling with the arm.

      One thing that I left out of my comment is that Cole was throwing 89 mph using a 360 technique. I didn't get video of the throw so I have no idea if doing a 360 drastically changed how he uses is back leg compared to his "normal" throw.
      Your comment about someone's opinion being invalid unless they have tried both ways doesn't really play out in real life. If someone is elite level good at something, their opinion is valid. Period. Try telling the world's best putter that their opinion isn't valid if they haven't tried doing it another way. They are probably going to look at you like you are an idiot and just shake their head in disbelief.
      What should happen in a situation like this is that we should look at the result and question "how". If Cole has elite distance without driving the throw with the back leg, we should look hard at his throw and ask ourselves how he does it. Being stuck with the "there's only one way" mentality limits player development. "one way" doesn't take into account all the different body types, strength, flexibility, explosiveness, etc. We should be open minded and look for what works for most.
