    Great tutorial mate, thanks for taking the time!
    With regards to the transition: You suggest initial brake with the left, then change the left foot to the clutch and right foot to the brake during the downshift.
    I've noticed in a few other videos that most professional drivers brake initially with the right foot, clutch with the left to downshift, then transition the left foot to the brake to control weight distribution through the corner.
    Is this just personal preference or do you have a reason for doing it differently?

      D R the way you described is the way most people do it. since you want to overlap releasing the brake and getting on the gas. doing it his way you don't get that. there really is no point to doing it his way. being able to get on the brakes quicker after accelerating isn't as important as getting on the gas faster after decelerating. plus, his way you never bring your left foot back to the brake under acceleration. Which is when you want to hover you foot over the brake for weight balance changes on corner exit to induce overstear on corner exit. If you start to push wide. also for trail braking for both balancing the car for for people with torque biasing diffs who want to reduce inside wheel spin need to be able to use a little brake pressure to stop the wheel spin.

    My daily is an auto, so I LFB all the time.
    Heel-toeing becomes weird though, because if I forget and I LFB going into a corner that I have to heel-toe, then I have to shimmy my right foot over the LFB-depressed brake pedal without losing any braking - if I do slip and lose braking then the car's weight really gets thrown back and induces understeer.
    The problem is I spend more time in my daily

    On my Toyota 86, it's uncomfortable to left foot brake because my left foot is mostly unsupported. So ideally, the brake and throttle pedals would be about the same shape and size.
    I'll mention this to Mayor Pete.

      ayowser01 Get on the brakes faster, Faster corner speeds keeps rear from stepping out brake bias, when following close for faster reaction times, you can even advance it further and throw rev matching in for changing gears no need for a clutch, also if racing om the street and they sre following most people wont get on it if your brake lights are glowing red by the time theyve clocked on youve gained an advantage, ive honestly beat 100k motors in a volvo t5 just through driver skill. currently a vag product owner no left braking allowed! fly by wire throttle :(

    So when threshold braking you should start with the left foot and transition to right...??? lol OK Scooter. Guys need to not get so hung up on left foot braking. I know it's all the new hotness, but if you didn't grow up karting you need to think real hard about trying to incorporate it. If you're really really great at it you "may" get an advantage, but if you're not a really great at it, a right foot braker will crush your soul in the braking zone. You should brake with the foot you have the most sensitivity with in any zone that is long and or hard. And for the love of Christ don't be trying to swap your damn feet on the brake pedal if you are at the limit of adhesion... SMH...

    No one should left foot brake on the road! It is a race track technique only . Unless you are left side dominant it is a deadly practice that results in the wrong peddle being depressed at the wrong time or too much braking at the wrong time.

    the way i get shit for left foot braking. I started about a month ago and it feels so natural. I can't even tell the difference in my feet any more. I remember when i first started I was fucking up real bad but it just took time. I took one of my friends for a ride about a week in and asked him what foot i was using and he said he couldn't tell

  • @richy69ify

    you're better off hitting the Kart track to get your left foot used to braking hard and on the edge of traction.
    You also need to be going quite fast into a corner to appreciate the weight transfer on a forgiving road car, what could possibly go wrong.

    I watched this probably a year ago, and I've been practicing a lot. I drive a 6 speed accord coupe V6. It probably looks a little weird to people when I randomly start oversteering around a turn in the wet.
    I always left foot brake so I can practice the transition from left foot to heel toe downshifting, and I'm getting better. I definitely feel like twice as fast going down back roads. It just goes exactly where you want when you left foot brake.

    Another incorrectly performed technique. At no point do you need to use left foot braking technique during heavy braking for corner. You transfer to the left brake after heavy braking in order to control weight shifting in the corner and so that you can do any heel toe as necessary between braking points(begin and end). The only reason you are successful with your demonstration is because you are going slow and you didn't need to heel toe or left foot brake

  • @hyusama7469
    @hyusama7469 7 лет назад

    Wait... don't you use left foot braking to brake while you're on the accelerator for weight transitioning purposes? Like the annoying guy with the EG6 (Honda civic) in initial D anime?

      hyusama Combining throttle and brake inputs in an FF car increases brake bias to the rear inducing oversteer. Can be useful for tucking in when you're understeering.

    The clutch on a sports car really should have been placed in the middle instead of on the left , that way you could brake with your left foot and then use heel toe for the clutch and accelerator and it would also mean that your braking foot does not have it's pressure interrupted from any heel toe motion like it normally would. Lastly you could rest your braking foots heel on the dead pedal as you brake.
    The brake should be on the left , the clutch should be in the middle and the accelerator on the right I think this would be a much better layout for a sports car.

    • @monkey6573
      @monkey6573 7 лет назад +2

      the travel of the clutch pedal is way too long to be able to use one foot for it and the accelerator.

    • @themememagician3998
      @themememagician3998 7 лет назад +1

      Not if the bite point is set up correctly , also the mounting could be altered to make the clutch higher from it's normal starting point.

    • @cjeam9199
      @cjeam9199 7 лет назад

      Randy Marsh hmm considering though that you dab the clutch in and out very quickly and need to blip at the same time I just don't think you could do that with one foot, you'd need to fiddle so much with the bite point and travel of the clutch. It's easier on the brake because you are applying it for longer and more steadily.
      Also, kinda feel at that point creating automatic throttle blips are easier.

    it makes more sense to have the clutch pedal in the middle. This way you can use both feet to decouple the drive train.

    • @User-nu6km
      @User-nu6km 8 лет назад +2

      toe on the clutch and heel on the gas. there are 4 possible heel and toe combinations one could utilize WRX1234

    • @Harry_Meredith
      @Harry_Meredith 8 лет назад

      Interesting concept but I don't think the clutch in the middle would work with the rev match downshift under brakes because the clutch needs to be fully compressed and I doubt someones foot would be small enough to depress it all the way without accidentally depressing the gas too much and ruining the rev match. I don't know though interesting idea nonetheless

    In a manual on the road there is no valid reason to left foot break, it's dangerous and should be confined to the track.

      Sam Santana Yeah I realise that now. It's easier than I thought. I'm not a pro yet but I can use it to play around with weight distribution through corners to induce a bit of oversteer :) I'm still waiting for an answer on how/why it's dangerous but I suspect I'll never get one. Some people are full of shit.
